xp - only one more I think. 10 episodes a season?

Jerry seems to me only to get childish (distracted) when Larry is around. When Larry is trying to get him to kick Funkhouser kicked off set he's being quite reasonable "we have a policy?"

Ned Trifle II, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 11:18 (fourteen years ago) link

I'm a little disappointed that Funkhauser is going to go through an entire series without a close relative dying.

Space Battle Rothko (Matt DC), Tuesday, 17 November 2009 11:19 (fourteen years ago) link

There's still time.

Ned Trifle II, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 11:19 (fourteen years ago) link

Ha, how did I never know about this?

NEW YORK DESERVED 9-11 (cankles), Wednesday, 18 November 2009 18:17 (fourteen years ago) link

My daughter made me watch that! "Isn't that that man you like?" It's not a bad cameo (with it's in-joke that must have gone flying about a thousand miles over the audience). That's his real children, trivia fans.

Ned Trifle II, Wednesday, 18 November 2009 20:17 (fourteen years ago) link

It's funny because Jerry is almost as much of a childish prick as Larry.

yeah, it's like seinfeld is one of the few people who actually sees the world like larry does. funniest part for me in the last episode was when leon goes "SO WHO ARE THESE TWO PEOPLE?" eating from a plate of grapes.

la monte jung (cutty), Friday, 20 November 2009 16:36 (fourteen years ago) link

Best Seinfeld line in this series - "trust your gut".

Space Battle Rothko (Matt DC), Friday, 20 November 2009 16:38 (fourteen years ago) link

I guess the joke is that Larry and Jerry are like twins (the banter in the restaurant: Jerry is left-handed, Larry is right-handed)! To me the running gag through Curb has been how the hell has Larry ever worked in comedy or with other people in anything? Even if he's funny sometimes. So in making Seinfeld he found someone like himself.

Watch this on-and-off but the way the eps are put together has really changed, huh? Far more interested in linking different scenes with assertions made five minutes before. Don't when that started.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 21 November 2009 12:01 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah I noticed that two - it's a lot slicker and seemingly more structured and scripted now. I don't see many scenes that feel semi-improvised - I watched an old one recently and there was one scene with Larry and Jeff in the restaurant and you can tell that Larry has just come out with something so funny, totally out of the blue, that's made the real Jeff absolutely crack up.

I guess it changed around series four? Around the time the focus of the series changed from Larry being held hostage to things totally out of his control, to Larry being a dick and bringing things on himself. Like the Wendy Wheelchair episode this series. Overall I prefer the former type.

Space Battle Rothko (Matt DC), Saturday, 21 November 2009 12:31 (fourteen years ago) link

absolutely loving this series, some of the plotlines are a bit contrived but it's forgivable when the jokes are so damn good. has there been much written about the whole kramer/leon thing? amazing moment when he opened the door to see leon wearing a bow tie

NI, Saturday, 21 November 2009 16:24 (fourteen years ago) link

the best part of the "reunion" is that you get to see jokes that may have been used in a reunion show, but also you get to see the actor's having fun with it. it's more playful. it's really pretty unique.

la monte jung (cutty), Saturday, 21 November 2009 17:56 (fourteen years ago) link

Only just saw this - some kind of HBO special about the series - which seems to suggest it's still pretty improvised, but you're right it still seems less so than before - but maybe they've just got better at it?

Ned Trifle II, Sunday, 22 November 2009 21:52 (fourteen years ago) link

i think this is the best season since s2

farting irl (cankles), Sunday, 22 November 2009 21:52 (fourteen years ago) link

i really thought they would dance around the michael richards stuff, was delighted that they had a subplot about it

genius

la monte jung (cutty), Monday, 23 November 2009 03:17 (fourteen years ago) link

i've always hated jerry seinfeld the comedian/person but he has acquitted himself very well on this season of cye

i love the evolution of larry david in season one as a reasonably sympathetic guy to the evil, hateful cave troll of s7

farting irl (cankles), Monday, 23 November 2009 05:16 (fourteen years ago) link

The finale was about as good as CYE gets, for me. Loved it.

Jouster, Monday, 23 November 2009 11:16 (fourteen years ago) link

Larry David, wood detective.

I didn't find the scenes from the Sienfeld funny in the slightest. Was that on purpose, or is it further evidence of me not 'getting' Sienfeld? (LOL Brits etc..) /the rest of it was excellent though... Mocha Joe's an arsehole, isn't he?

Communi-Bear Silo State (chap), Monday, 23 November 2009 16:19 (fourteen years ago) link

lol "sienfeld"

la monte jung (cutty), Monday, 23 November 2009 16:26 (fourteen years ago) link

Sorry, Seinfeld.

I think it might be you chap. I don't find Jerry's stand-up that hilarious, but I found him him to be really funny all throughout the CYE stuff, especially his interaction with Larry... I've heard the same thing from a lot of others

I agree that Mocha Joe is an asshole, although he probably could pressured Larry for a LOT more money after getting attacked by those dogs

lukevalentine, Tuesday, 24 November 2009 02:38 (fourteen years ago) link

by the way, I would like to point out that keeping dogs in a car like that is illegal, shame on you jason alexander

lukevalentine, Tuesday, 24 November 2009 02:39 (fourteen years ago) link

In the episode where Cheryl has to audition for the role of George's ex, the other actress she was up against was played by Elizabeth Shue, right? I was sort of surprised they didn't just use her real name like they do with so many other ppl.

bear say hi to me (ENBB), Tuesday, 24 November 2009 02:53 (fourteen years ago) link

Maybe because in that episode her character is into threesomes and E. Shue didn't want people to think she really is?

Nuyorican oatmeal (jaymc), Tuesday, 24 November 2009 04:56 (fourteen years ago) link

Hmmm I hadn't really thought about that.

bear say hi to me (ENBB), Tuesday, 24 November 2009 04:58 (fourteen years ago) link

I dunno, there have been other somewhat famous people not playing themselves on Curb, though I'm not sure where you draw the line. I suppose Elisabeth Shue is more famous than Richard Kind, Mayim Bialik, Vivica Fox, Bob Einstein, Shelley Berman, Paul Dooley, etc.

Someone probably should've revived the jaymc + nabisco OCD TV thread last week after Vicki Lewis appeared on Curb as a character, since she also played George's secretary on Seinfeld.

Nuyorican oatmeal (jaymc), Tuesday, 24 November 2009 05:05 (fourteen years ago) link

Yes, someone probably should have.

He meant the Seinfeld reunion, not Jerry himself, I think. They were mildly funny, I guess - I laughed at the surrounding stuff but not the actual scenes, I don't think.

Jerry should be a regular if Curb does another season.

Jouster, Tuesday, 24 November 2009 08:44 (fourteen years ago) link

Yes indeed.

Communi-Bear Silo State (chap), Tuesday, 24 November 2009 11:16 (fourteen years ago) link

wow, the larry playing george-scene in this was genius. the only problem with having jerry around is that jeff gets phased out a bit, and i like jeff.

sonderangerbot, Tuesday, 24 November 2009 12:13 (fourteen years ago) link

Jerry seems to have taken up the time that would generally have been filled by Richard Lewis - there's been enough Jeff in this season to keep me happy.

I can't find a torrent of the last episode anywhere, it's incredibly annoying.

Space Battle Rothko (Matt DC), Tuesday, 24 November 2009 12:18 (fourteen years ago) link

A Rapidshare account really is a fine investment if you watch a lot of US TV shows.

Communi-Bear Silo State (chap), Tuesday, 24 November 2009 12:57 (fourteen years ago) link

You know, I just stream everything these days. You have to put up with annoying pop-up ads to get to the video, but once it starts, it's no different from watching a torrent. Try here.
