Not finished yet but this is what I am building for my girlfriend. (Damned parker international sent the last batch of components slow rather than the fast mail I asked for).

Ed, Sunday, 22 June 2008 12:23 (fifteen years ago) link

can i be your gf too???

Super Cub, Sunday, 22 June 2008 18:57 (fifteen years ago) link

i found a specialized hybrid frameset only on craigslist for $20 that ive made into a racked flatbar commuter for missus. $20! sure its vintage 1994 with lots of paint chips and scuffs, but its in good shape otherwise.

so i transferred over my old commuter's bits, along with some drivetrain refurbs. it does not, however, feature powdercoated yellow semi deep section wheels. werent those on yr merckx?

Hunt3r, Sunday, 22 June 2008 19:20 (fifteen years ago) link

Girlfriend slot already taken, I am prepared to consider concubines, though.

Wheels were on the Merckx which has had Xero XCR-1s for a while now. I did a bearing overhaul on them which should keep them going for a good while and if not it gives me a good idea of what to buy her for Xmas. (I am so happy that I have managed to persuade her to go from not cycled since childhood to happily trundling through the streets of brooklyn wanting a lighter, faster bike)

Ed, Sunday, 20 July 2008 19:30 (fifteen years ago) link

Finally replaced my stolen bike. Only going to be in Oxford/UK for another 12 months so just wanted something cheap to get around, hence this bad boy, which was £45.

Yes friends, that is real rust on the bar ends. And if you think the chainring looks a little green, that's because it's covered in mould. Rides pretty well considering!

caek, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 13:54 (fifteen years ago) link

Do you ever get the urge to yell "OGRE SMASH" while riding it? I would.

dan m, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 18:57 (fifteen years ago) link

I don't have a bike to post but I needed to tell everyone that I keep thinking this thread is What do your balls look like? which is horrifying.

Finefinemusic, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 20:09 (fifteen years ago) link

Hi Wutexas! Do you want a bike? What's your biking history? c'mon, spill the sordid biking revelations!

Mark C, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 21:54 (fifteen years ago) link

dan, I have only had it for two days, but the too high seat position does make me feel both powerful like an OGRE, while at the same time hurting my junk.

no im afraid the antique carbon or steerer will break.

iro with brown bag (Hunt3r), Sunday, 8 February 2009 15:49 (fifteen years ago) link

Thanks. I'm well pleased. Practical (with the mudguards, big grippy Schwalbe 700Cx28 tyres and full brakes, it's perfect for the current Glasgow weather and roads) and yet great fun to ride, it's certainly been holding its own out there for the past month and a bit. I love it.

Cutty, what do you use the Cannondale and the Cinelli for differently? Also, your saddle seems not that much higher than your bars - you like a relaxed position?

Mark C, Saturday, 11 April 2009 20:28 (fifteen years ago) link

i'm still using the cinelli for long, hilly, road races and weekend training rides. i'm using the cannondale for crits, park races, and weekly training rides. i'm using the raleigh to commute and tool around town.

i have a super long torso, so that's the most biomechanically efficient position for me on the road bike. i get my bikes fit to my exact body measurements with the wobblenaught system:
