the fact that there may be eastside/westside dance beef makes me realize one of the reasons i'm staying in this godforsaken city

Bea Arthur - Lost COmic GEnius ? (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 2 July 2006 23:05 (seventeen years ago) link

so this is the superior negro dancing that white male americans feel so emasculated by? most interesting! although i must confess i had envisioned something more, uh, elegant

I think some of that dancing is ok but most of it can be either good or bad at a given minute, being "urkel brings male cheerleading to the next level (who knew he was secretly hott)" .

wow. those videos are straight ravey. especially that last one.

jess, do you get to hear this stuff out much?

do you know if there was an original break that everyone samples for these tracks kinda like the amem? it sounds pretty programmed, but they all sound the same

flëétwøöd måçk (jaxon), Friday, 7 July 2006 01:50 (seventeen years ago) link

jaxon, its the "think" break

XD (eman), Friday, 7 July 2006 02:13 (seventeen years ago) link

the one i linked has the "get my gun" remix. sounds like fucking gabber practically!

XD (eman), Friday, 7 July 2006 02:19 (seventeen years ago) link

wow. can't believe it's the think break. need to relisten.

u live there too, right? is a lot of the stuff way more ravey now? u got mixtapes you wanna ysi a brotha?

i know it's like 10 hipster steps removed, but the SpankRock show and opening DJs were fucking so much fun

flëétwøöd måçk (jaxon), Friday, 7 July 2006 02:27 (seventeen years ago) link

S/D Spank Rock

i went from hating them to loving them. not the greatest mc, but super fun. i'm a total corny indie hip hop lover again, but the two best shows i've seen in ages were spankrock and edan.

flëétwøöd måçk (jaxon), Friday, 7 July 2006 03:04 (seventeen years ago) link

lol i'm happy that i got baltimore club dudes dissing on spank rock in an upcoming issue

Bea Arthur - Lost COmic GEnius ? (dubplatestyle), Friday, 7 July 2006 13:46 (seventeen years ago) link

do you know if there was an original break that everyone samples for these tracks

a lot of em use the Sing Sing break I think but these ones in the videos sound different

that one at the very top sounds like it's based on "it's time for the percolator"

dmr (Renard), Friday, 7 July 2006 14:10 (seventeen years ago) link

that Spank Rock thread is not endearing me to them at all and they probably deserve the dissing.

This gat dayum record fuckin confirms for me that NEW YORK was without a doubt listening to BALTIMORE shit. 3 years before this, me and a friend did DICKONTROL. same fuckin beat.ARMAND VAN HELDEN jacked us for the beat and went to STRICTLY RHYTHM and killed us with our own shit. This is STILL to this day played IN HEAVY ROTATION in clubs here in Baltimore.LONG LIVE ZULU !!!! THIS IS AN INCREDIBLE RECORD !!! THE CATCH IS ....THIS IS A UNDERGROUND HOUSE RECORD...NOT A BALTIMORE CLUB RECORD.

dmr (Renard), Saturday, 8 July 2006 02:43 (seventeen years ago) link

that Spank Rock thread is not endearing me to them at all and they probably deserve the dissing.

they totally deserve all the dissing, BUT they're fun. so i don't care. also (if it's any consolation) scott seward, myself and confounded (who's taste in music i respect) are digging the album.

flëétwøöd måçk (jaxon), Saturday, 8 July 2006 08:36 (seventeen years ago) link

i listened to a couple samples on their site and its not bad actually. its silly how they seem to use baltimore as a fashion accessory though. not that i care, i just dont get it.

when I was 13 I went to camp with a kid from Baltimore projects. when excited he would do the cabbage patch and say "serious up!". he made fun of me for two days when I confessed I thought he had ben saying "surf's up!" the whole time.

hollertronix getting on the bill is 2 funny. and sad. tho i think technics played last year, which i missed

lmaoborghini (eman), Thursday, 20 July 2006 14:24 (seventeen years ago) link

haha judging by the responses ive gotten so far to the b1g mus1c 1ssue, baltimore wants its dance and rap music at a comfortable remove and in easy open portions

david allen grier (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 20 July 2006 14:41 (seventeen years ago) link

i haven't finished reading all of it yet, but i imagine a lot of boring barpunk dudes firing off angry emails about not supporting their "scene" and only covering rap. which part has the spank rock dis?

lmaoborghini (eman), Thursday, 20 July 2006 16:21 (seventeen years ago) link

club five is kind of atrocious but it's easy enough to get to off the red line. king tubby sound system is not mentioned in their schedule listing at all. It just says "SISTER NANCY REGGAE LEGEND LIVE!" which for their typical clientele is all they care to know or try to understand.

hey some of those boring barpunk dudes are nice folks.
