Paul (scifisoul), Sunday, 7 November 2004 06:12 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm going on Sunday if anybody wants to tip a pint.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Sunday, 7 November 2004 07:41 (nineteen years ago) link

*weeps*

wish i was there.

bulbs (bulbs), Sunday, 7 November 2004 07:53 (nineteen years ago) link

2 or 3 record fairs ago I was undergoing a serious Undertones phase and even though I had the CDs, found a dealer w/ most of the singles and picked up my 3 favorite songs in that lovely 7" format, You've Got My Number, My Perfect Cousin and Wednesday Week.

Paul, you still at Tower?

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Sunday, 7 November 2004 07:57 (nineteen years ago) link

yep -
wish I'd gone thru the whole messthetics table - lotsa great picturesleeve punk/newwave era 7"s

Paul (scifisoul), Sunday, 7 November 2004 19:46 (nineteen years ago) link

I just came back -- didn't buy one damn thing, but was tapped by Jimmy The Mod (or, as he said, "Jimmy the Asshole Mod").

Anyway, same ol' stuff -- but a thinning demographic. Sort've depressing, actually.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 7 November 2004 20:37 (nineteen years ago) link

I went and didn't buy anything too. And Alex, agreed about the demographic. Some old rockers look extremely rough.
Also made me realise I'm only looking for a few records at any one time (which I usually forget about after a few months, before the process begings again).

paulhw (paulhw), Sunday, 7 November 2004 20:41 (nineteen years ago) link

Chuck's table has been the old standbye...but he sells things for what they're worth, so not exactly "deals". Better off buying the CDs!

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Sunday, 7 November 2004 20:46 (nineteen years ago) link

I stopped by this afternoon and picked up a few things. Nothing especially rare, just a few decent records in better than average condition.

o. nate (onate), Monday, 8 November 2004 00:44 (nineteen years ago) link

Was Chuck the guy in the best of NYC Village Voice shirt?
He may have stopped by my table.
Shoulda said hi.
Did finally meet with Mr. Perpetua, a fine upstanding lad.
I promised myself I wasn't going to get a thing as I'm broke.
Here's what I got:
Plastikman: Artifakts
UGK: Dirty Money and Ridin' Dirty
Basement Jaxx: Lucky Star single (Remixes!)
Capone n' noreaga: The War Report
Cappadonna: the Yin and the Yang
Plus another twelve discs or so of stuff that I know nothing about and will explore. A curious CD for a buck is a bargain.
Oh! And a cool silkscreen buddyholly shirt.
Not bad for twenty five bucks.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 8 November 2004 01:22 (nineteen years ago) link

Do they carry pedestrian stuff like Smiths 12'' singles?

Mary (Mary), Monday, 8 November 2004 01:29 (nineteen years ago) link

Whoa. I just cracked cellophane on one of the "nothing abouts" and found a serious winner!
Japanese hip hop from a band called Ill Mariachi, album title: 'Tha Masta Blusta'.
MC Shan sample on a track called 'Nagoya Queens'!
Strange noise music for good measure!
On first listening, I'm impressed!

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 8 November 2004 01:30 (nineteen years ago) link

eleven months pass...
Nov 4-6 for the annual scavenging. Sign up for the karaoke band so I don't hafta.

i fucking slept on selling records this year. goddammit. i've got some good stuff to unload, too.

saw a mint, promo copy of "unicorn" at the rhino records in new paltz last weekend, $20, but passed because i realized i only really like marc bolan's electric stuff. oh well.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 14 October 2005 15:52 (eighteen years ago) link

All I've got are dollar records, so you probably won't see me.

k/l (Ken L), Friday, 14 October 2005 16:00 (eighteen years ago) link

i know im bond to go and drop like 100 bucks on completely wierd choices BECAUSE everytime i go into the record fair i completely loose track of any sense of whats important. i really should make a list.

bb (bbrz), Friday, 14 October 2005 18:12 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm selling with the girlfriend; we've both ripped everything to hard drive and are dumping hundreds of discs. Stop by!

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Friday, 14 October 2005 18:40 (eighteen years ago) link

I tried a list once; didn't work for me. Discovery is the pleasure.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Friday, 14 October 2005 18:47 (eighteen years ago) link

hell, that should be "bound" up there, clearly.

in my heart, i know the list won't work.

bb (bbrz), Friday, 14 October 2005 19:59 (eighteen years ago) link

last year i went with no money and left with a circle x 7".

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 14 October 2005 20:52 (eighteen years ago) link

I will be there (probably) Sunday working the craft table. Come say hi and decorate a record cover. Fun for the whole family!

Last year I end up only buying from the WFMU tables and from WFMU DJs selling stuff. Oh, and a Human League record bag.

tokyo nursery school: afternoon session (rosemary), Friday, 14 October 2005 21:59 (eighteen years ago) link

two weeks pass...
I'll be working Sunday afternoon at one of the FMU tables, and sticking around for the dealer price slashings afterward. And I'm sure I'll shop Saturday too...

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 2 November 2005 18:37 (eighteen years ago) link

I am missing this.

Alex in Novosibirsk (ex machina), Wednesday, 2 November 2005 18:43 (eighteen years ago) link

Super Karaoke Fun Time Band are the nicest dudes. They also rock.
Give 'em your attention.

cdwill, Wednesday, 2 November 2005 21:03 (eighteen years ago) link

I'll be there Sunday, too.

tokyo nursery school: afternoon session (rosemary), Wednesday, 2 November 2005 21:11 (eighteen years ago) link

Our tables are bursting, and prices are good. We haven't had a fair in a year, so the general vibe is everybody's gonna have good stuff.

Brian Turner (btwfmu), Thursday, 3 November 2005 02:47 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm pretty excited, it's been a while. I'm doing the WFMU merch table on Saturday afternoon, and the WFMU record table on Sunday.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Thursday, 3 November 2005 04:13 (eighteen years ago) link

I don't see the A/V Lounge schedule online yet, but the ad in NY Press has a Serge/Birkin special (Sat @2), a Lee Hazelwood doc (5:30), Esquivel stuff (Sun @2) etc.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 3 November 2005 22:20 (eighteen years ago) link

I want to time an NYC trip next year with this, maybe.

I do feel guilty for getting any perverse amusement out of it (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 3 November 2005 22:26 (eighteen years ago) link

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Friday, 4 November 2005 14:14 (eighteen years ago) link

Moving this to once a year instead of bi-annual has really upped the anticipation factor. I used to blow it off more often because I knew it'd be back in six months. Now you can't miss it.

Keith C (lync0), Friday, 4 November 2005 14:39 (eighteen years ago) link

Hopefully the dealers will think along those lines, too, and bring TONS OF COOL STUFF.

mcd (mcd), Friday, 4 November 2005 14:40 (eighteen years ago) link

I hope the guy selling goofy buttons is there (eg, "I Hate All Bands").

4:15pm-5:45pm: The Apple
The one and only rock musical masterpiece of 1980, set in the futuristic year of 1994 when one evil musical magnate rules the world. Can he be stopped by pure love? A new cult favorite that's better than Xanadu and Can't Stop The Music combined. Really! (90 min)
AV LOUNGE

WHY DIDN'T ANYONE TELL ME THIS WAS SHOWING??? SHIT, NOW I HAVE TO GO SATURDAY AND SUNDAY

If you go on Sunday, Robin Edgerton is purging 80% of her CD collection. Which means stuff you will NEVER EVER find elsewhere.

Douglas (Douglas), Saturday, 5 November 2005 00:20 (eighteen years ago) link

Robin always has the best stuff at her table.

tokyo nursery school: afternoon session (rosemary), Saturday, 5 November 2005 01:29 (eighteen years ago) link

I hope Steinski's there!

don, Saturday, 5 November 2005 04:41 (eighteen years ago) link

Whic means that when you're 60, you'll have a table and purge 80% of your collection.

paulhw (paulhw), Saturday, 5 November 2005 04:48 (eighteen years ago) link

well, i turned 60 only a FEW years ago....

i AM getting rid of the VAST majority of my cd collection. that includes like 50 discs of nz pop, like 3 linear feet of brazilian funk and soul cds, my whole holland/dozier/holland section, all my atom heart cds (ok, that's only like 10 of 'em) ... about a 1000 cds in every genre, b/c that's all i could rip to my hard drive so far!!! but i've been ripping the most interesting cds i have, first, at least.

I'll have a table against the back wall (the "R" section), come say hello if you're an ilm-er.

if'n you don't know who i am (and i don't know why you should) i used to be the wfmu music director before brian.

sorry for the promotional content. thanks douglas!!!

p.s.: cds i'm NOT getting rid of--all my gospel cds, every boredoms related cd i own, and the majority of my african cds. Look what happens when you age?
