I AM BORED I NEED A JOB

river wolf, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 17:03 (sixteen years ago) link

So I heard Feist's "1,2,3,4" in about three different places yesterday. I think it is the licensed/store-muzak song of the year.

it has been raining constantly today and my accuweather widget says it's sunny & 76. i guess it's less-than-accu.

i'm mostly annoyed b/c i need to exchange some knitting needles and i melt in the rain.

Kels, get a house custom-made like those people who can't ever be in direct sunlight: a canopied back yard, a portico that shields you until you get in the car/to your destination, very deep eaves, covered porches, etc. Special needs, mang.

Laurel, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 17:17 (sixteen years ago) link

I guess it shouldn't surprise me that things like that exist, yet I am still a little surprised.

sweet tater, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 17:21 (sixteen years ago) link

What, the illness itself or the specially built house? It was on that cheesy home rebuilding show a couple of years ago, the adolescent daughter could never go in the sun. Err, maybe it was polymorphic light erruption? That's moderately treatable, though, and it seemed like her condition wasn't.

RW I meant to tell you about this at Sarah's bday party but I don't think I ever did. Not sure if it's what you're looking for but it's at least somewhat relevant to your skills/interests/whatever, right?

Dr. Wax apparently "forgot" to order the new Les Savy Fav and then questioned the accuracy of my statement that it was released today, so I had to buy it at Barnes & Noble. GOOD JOB INDEPENDENT MUSIC RETAILERS.

Idiots!

KitCat, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 17:59 (sixteen years ago) link

KitCat, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 18:02 (sixteen years ago) link

Ok, so that's old news. I'm behind the times.

Jen: contain yourself!
i love the container store

Jesse, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 18:14 (sixteen years ago) link

This album is good. It's like Les Savy Fav but 12% poppier.

n/a, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 18:15 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm listening to it now, too.

jaymc, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 18:15 (sixteen years ago) link

LSF, get in my shuffle!

KitCat, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 18:16 (sixteen years ago) link

"Raging in the Plague Age" is really poppy.

n/a, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 18:16 (sixteen years ago) link

Actually, haha, when I reviewed "The Equestrian" a couple of weeks ago, I said it wasn't pop enough.

jaymc, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 18:17 (sixteen years ago) link

I am listening to Rudimentary Peni.

dan m, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 18:17 (sixteen years ago) link

Sadness:

1. "Les Savy Fav does not accept add requests from bands."
2. No Chicago-area tour dates.

n/a, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 18:18 (sixteen years ago) link

John copy or link to review so I can argue with you (note: I am going into a meeting in 10 minutes and probably going home after that).

n/a, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 18:19 (sixteen years ago) link

The main reason I review indie-rock singles on the Jukebox is to balance out Martin Skidmore's reviews, which nine times out of ten are something like: "US indie, with lifeless guitars and not much of a tune. Dreadful. [2]"

jaymc, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 18:19 (sixteen years ago) link

Secretarial duties I normally get away with not doing that I have been asked to do today:
"Take this down, will you?"
"I will take a fresh pot of decaf."
"I would like a cab here at 2:45..."
None of those requests were from coworkers.

KitCat, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 18:21 (sixteen years ago) link

Nick:

At their best, Les Savy Fav couples off-the-rails punk intensity (as demonstrated by Tim Harrington’s anarchic stage antics) with exuberant, literate tunefulness. Unfortunately, this single, their first after several years of inactivity, has plenty of vitality but not enough melody: after several plays, only the end, which exploits Harrington’s penchant for closing mantras, strikes me as particularly memorable.

jaymc, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 18:21 (sixteen years ago) link

DECAF????

Jesse, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 18:22 (sixteen years ago) link

My rebuttal: u crazy

n/a, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 18:22 (sixteen years ago) link

Wow. I told you that I offered a client coffee and he just ASSUMED we had decaf and the assoc. said, "What are we, Communists?"

Jesse, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 18:23 (sixteen years ago) link

That's cool. I might warm up to it. Plus, I'm liking some of the other songs on the album.

jaymc, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 18:23 (sixteen years ago) link

ugh. that getting people's coffee thing is BULLSHIT.

horseshoe, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 18:23 (sixteen years ago) link

even moreso, an entire POT of it??!

sweet tater, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 18:23 (sixteen years ago) link

I only get it for clients on the very infrequent occasions that we have an in-office consultation. I do however generally make the coffee around here.

Jesse, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 18:24 (sixteen years ago) link

Well, I knew the coffee (regular) wasn't fresh, AND It was almost noon anyway, so I offered this guy water or soda. That was his response.

ugh. that getting people's coffee thing is BULLSHIT.
At least most businessmen are too hardcore to take anything but regular black coffee, which is the easiest for me.

KitCat, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 18:26 (sixteen years ago) link

I drank decaf for like a year.

jaymc, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 18:28 (sixteen years ago) link

I realized that the thread title keeps reminding me of Alanis M.'s "Hands Clean", and so I went to search for the album art and found so much other stuff under a GIS for that title. Such as:

Once again proving my point that when disembodied body parts appear in advertisements (e.g., a treatment for athlete's foot) or other public displays, they will always be white.

Jesse, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 18:34 (sixteen years ago) link

In high school and college, whenever I was with my mom at a restaurant and ordered coffee, she'd tell the waitress "DECAF! It needs to be DECAF!" Supposedly I get hyper on the caffeine? ha ha (understatement)
