dude, zimmer getting flipped for real is one of the more entertaining moments in recent sports history.

for some reason, he and lawrence tierney are inextricably linked in my head.

And that's the greatest baseball moment of all time.

ample parking (Garrett Martin), Monday, 20 March 2006 00:59 (eighteen years ago) link

I forgot just how close that play was.

It was also a tough play for Bonds -- it looked like he was shading Cabrera toward the line and had to run laterally to get to the ball, which explains why he couldn't get much on the throw.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Monday, 20 March 2006 01:08 (eighteen years ago) link

I remembered that 1989 Earthquake series happening differently. It was the shot of Al Michaels in the booth, talking about the game, and then the screen just went blank. Then an ABC logo. Then some commercials. Then an episode of "Roseanne". It wasn't until I tuned in the radio that I heard Bob Costas say that an earthquake had struck the San Francisco area.

But I didn't see or hear Michaels again until the network news started covering it. I certainly don't remember that "I don't even know if we're on the air" audio sequence.

Anyway, I'll tell you which clip I've been looking for: George Brett storming out of the dug-out after the umpire called him for having pinetar on his bat. If my someone ever asks me, "What does raw emotional ANGER look like?", I'll show him that scene.

Can I just give a big FU to MLB for not getting on board with youtube? I can easily find virtually every great NBA highlight from the past 50 years, but for baseball there isn't jack shit on there. Almost every link in this thread is dead -- removed due to a copyright claim.

"This telecast presented by authority of Major League Baseball, intended solely for the private, non-commercial use of our audience. Any publication, reproduction, retransmission, or other use of the pictures without the express written consent of the Commissioner of Baseball is prohibited." Heard Curt Gowdy say that so many times, suddenly very poignant--welcome to 2013, Curt.

The thing that always catches me short watching old games is how fast they clip along. I don't know why they're all rushing--the entire country outside is falling apart.
