You seem to have rationalised your posting style persona as, by turns, the worst kind of unambitious, turgidly written Brummy whimsy, or a deeply patronising undergraduate. It's boring _and_ irritating, and the worst thing is you seem to think you're bringing us pleasure as some sort of ILX jester or wit, who occasionally gets serious and tells it like it is. Actually, the worst thing is the way you can never just be silent for a while, read what other people have to say, or walk away from the computer. Just calm down a bit.

Acrobat is, for all intents and purposes, incapable of conversation. That doesn't mean he hasn't asked good questions in the past. It simply means it very quickly becomes clear there's no point in answering them.

Michael Philip Philip Philip philip Annoyman, Thursday, 14 June 2007 15:30 (sixteen years ago) link

Seriously, banning Michael Philip Philip Philip philip Annoyman for making one crappy joke (actually, most of his jokes have been crappy, which is why I wouldn't be inclined to call racism, just stupidity for the post referenced upthread) seems just a tad on the over-reacting side. Like noodle vague said, he's hardly the only one who's made an ill-advised and unfunny racial caricature joke.

And saying "oh he doesn't contribute much/his jokes aren't funny - fuck it, that's half of ILX.

acrobat, Thursday, 14 June 2007 15:34 (sixteen years ago) link

So, Frankie Valli then

Tom D., Thursday, 14 June 2007 15:35 (sixteen years ago) link

Frankie Valli would be funnier if he played by his own rules, just responding to every put-down with "Ha ha, I MANIPULATED you into saying that!" just gets boring REALLY fast.

Michael Philip Philip Philip philip Annoyman, Thursday, 14 June 2007 15:41 (sixteen years ago) link

I just wish you wouldn't use that falsetto in every post

Tom D., Thursday, 14 June 2007 15:44 (sixteen years ago) link

Frankie Valli, you are not funny. In fact, you are showing yourself to be painfully unfunny, patently unfunny, a grotesque heap of overreaching humor-impaired desperation. It makes us wish you were dead, which is a sad state of affairs. Now either shut up and calm down or get used to the fact that your presence on a thread will be met with despair. (Doubtless others have said similar about me, but this is part of why I can tell YOU this.)

acrobat, Thursday, 14 June 2007 15:46 (sixteen years ago) link

This isn't as good as when Chris Morris interviewed him.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 14 June 2007 15:48 (sixteen years ago) link

I think Tom D was spot on really. You are a type sadly enough. A type that most of us are all to familiar with because Frankie Valli, we were you once upon a time. Yes, we made lots of noise, derailed arguments for "look at me moments", why even I (hard to believe as it is) was once a hyperactive pain in the face. The only difference is that there wasn't an internet, nowadays irritating loudmouthery can is only a submit button away. This isn't an age thing, it's a maturity thing.

Dom Passantino, Thursday, 14 June 2007 15:55 (sixteen years ago) link

I think Dom T was on the spot really. Enough of your sad typos. Frankly, we have familiars because once upon a time we were in that valley....

Tom D., Thursday, 14 June 2007 16:02 (sixteen years ago) link

I really like this song! I've been putting it on mix CDs ever since it turned up over on Headphonesex a few months ago.

jamescobo, Thursday, 14 June 2007 18:38 (sixteen years ago) link

so, back to Frankie Valli. this song has been on constant repeat lately. the first time i heard the re-edit, i thought it had sampled drums from some Can song. and then i heard the original and was totally blown away. Pilooski doesn't do much more than turn up the drums, loop the bit w/the ESG violin/guitar/whatever it is and add a few effects here and there.

jaxon, Thursday, 14 June 2007 18:41 (sixteen years ago) link

xpost that was

jaxon, Thursday, 14 June 2007 18:41 (sixteen years ago) link

and back to the video. yeah, it kinda sucks the coolness out of the song by adding some ironic hipster crap 50s scene. all i can think of is weezer or nirvana.

jaxon, Thursday, 14 June 2007 18:43 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm kinda curious how this came about to have a real release .... I first heard it as an mp3 from d-i-r-t-y and loved it but I figured it was just some white-label .... I guess they were able to license it from Frankie Valli? seems expensive! especially since they used so much of the original, like jaxon said.

Pilooski is amazing - search his Pointer Sisters edit = WOW. (Valli obviously is beyond classic)

Spencer Chow, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 19:43 (sixteen years ago) link

that is a good one

also the "Brain of Oscar Pazzini" or whatever the hell from dirty edits vol. 1

does pilloski run the alainfinkielkrautrock blogspot?

jaxon, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 20:32 (sixteen years ago) link

I don't think it's him, it's someone else from dirty

dmr, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 21:08 (sixteen years ago) link

I would have been happy if they'd just reissued the Timebox version.
Yup.

A bit unusual for me to come into a non hip-hop thread and direct you towards a hip-hop video, but are you guys aware of this:

there are black people in norway?

jaxon, Monday, 2 June 2008 22:29 (fifteen years ago) link

that's pretty much just a cover with about 4 bars of rapping

jaxon, Monday, 2 June 2008 22:32 (fifteen years ago) link

That it's so hard to get Pilooski's stuff is a crime.

Popture, Monday, 2 June 2008 22:32 (fifteen years ago) link

i went to my local 45 soul shop looking for that Pointer Sister's track and the dude told me it's a $200 record :(

jaxon, Monday, 2 June 2008 22:32 (fifteen years ago) link

I don't disagree. :)

Geir Hongro, Monday, 2 June 2008 23:52 (fifteen years ago) link

I love the Pilooski edits so much, but they require a high bitrate file and a good system if you're going to play it out - the music is very dense.

Spencer Chow, Monday, 2 June 2008 23:54 (fifteen years ago) link

being honest, the Stateless remix that he did didn't do anything for me.
but that could have been all down to the crappy source material of course.

mark e, Monday, 2 June 2008 23:58 (fifteen years ago) link

jaxon - you got to be fucking kidding me. it only came out a couple months ago!

BATTAGS, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 02:26 (fifteen years ago) link

he probably means the original! i hope so anyway, otherwise i'm selling my copy of the pilooski 12", it's great but it's not $200 great.

haitch, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 02:35 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah, original. it's a "northern classic". i figured i could get around my "i don't buy new records" stance by finding the original

jaxon, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 02:37 (fifteen years ago) link

battags, do you guys have any of the pilooski edits at amoeba?

jaxon, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 02:37 (fifteen years ago) link

I can imagine the Pilooski record being $200. The Dirty kids never press many and they get snapped up by DJs really quickly.

Almost wanted to do a thread on guitar players and drummers that are often paired, but ended up thinking it wasn't worth the bother.

I mean, would it kill them to get some Northern Soul dudes out of a Wigan retirement home and get them to throw some fucking MOVES down? Rather than Eric Prydz Goes To Rydell High.
