I count myself very lucky to have seen both Flash & Bam spin in the early 80s (Herc & Theodore too). Bam held forth for years on Friday nites at the Roxy roller rink, ably assisted by Red Alert, Afrika Islam, Jazzy Jay & co. ZULU NATION THROWDOWN COME IN PEACE
my vague memory says Flash's DJ sets were more sliced & diced while Bambaataa & crew were slightly more recognizably song-oriented...but don't trust me on that.

It's mostly modern mixes he did for Strut with some classic break records, and then those two older mixes from '79 and '82. Strut must have had to clear a lot of stuff for that one.

Anyone ever see Afrika Bambaata spin recently ? I've got a friend who wants me to go but I don't want to pay 20 bucks for an old school hip hop set that I've heard rehashed hundreds of times at hip hop club. Does anyone know what he drops in his sets these days ?

Bambaata has the edge w the James Brown collab but Grandmaster Flash's "Scorpio" is still amazing

the media silence wrt the Bambaataa and the wide spread child abuse allegations is pretty disturbing

it's def not getting Cosby-level attention or anything, but then he's sort of a cult figure these days

yeah I would think for most people the first response to that headline would be "who is Afrika Bamaataa?"
really sad how things shook out for both these groups. imagine how full of potential it all must have seemed in 1982.
