Well fare thee well robotman. Was it the slang that you were picking up that irked you?

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:48 (twenty-one years ago) link

Cheerio Doomie - drop one of yr friends here a line if you want reconnection (assuming we do manage to ban you that is!). I'm sorry to see you go but I understand your reasons!

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:50 (twenty-one years ago) link

I've blocked the DSL IP address. I have no idea what to do about the other one.

Graham (graham), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:55 (twenty-one years ago) link

See you in a few weeks so.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:56 (twenty-one years ago) link

Ronana - I was gonna ask on a thread a while back if Dublin people really put 'so' at the end of sentences. I thought it might just be a stereotype, you know, like Glasgow people all say "See you, Jimmy"?

smee (smee), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:02 (twenty-one years ago) link

i wz going to post "bejaysus" but i tht better of it, by the stars

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:04 (twenty-one years ago) link

Begorrah!

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:10 (twenty-one years ago) link

No wait I can't remember where that's from. Yeah, I give you two weeks too.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:12 (twenty-one years ago) link

Not all Dublin people I suppose or anyone all the time but it does feel like the normal way to do it. I prefer it to "then".

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:15 (twenty-one years ago) link

I like it. First time I saw it it was in print, in some awfull wumminy story, so it looked kinda weird - hence the doubts

smee (smee), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:17 (twenty-one years ago) link

I didn't even pick up on that, it just seemed natural, though I read in an "or". I like vaguely dialectical things.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:19 (twenty-one years ago) link

It's not a Dublin thing, it's a country thing! Dirty great culchies tracking mud all over our language...

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:22 (twenty-one years ago) link

Ban Me! (a new form of message board S&M - and don't ban me please. No! No!)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:23 (twenty-one years ago) link

I live in the country! In New Zealand, though, where there isn't really enough of a population to develop interesting dialects. Southereners roll their "r"s, though, which is is a start.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:25 (twenty-one years ago) link

I tend to put a westcountry "see" at the end of spoken sentences, which, when combined with the increasing scousification of my orignal North London / Cornwall blend means I think I'm in a class of my own. Hang on, this thread seems to be deviating...sorry...

Matt (Matt), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:29 (twenty-one years ago) link

I can’t help thinking that doomie will be cracking up at his thread being hijacked but he’s totally impotent, at his own request – it amuses me greatly...

smee (smee), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:31 (twenty-one years ago) link

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 16:16 (twenty-one years ago) link

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 23:14 (twenty-one years ago) link
