Zing Touch: ILX now ON IPHONE (and ipod tooches too)

After spending forever in review, the ILX iPhone app has been approved.

WHAT IT CAN DO
- Read and post to ILX (or the Sandbox or any other server running a really recent version of ConversationBoard for that matter)
- Set and delete bookmarks
- Automatically check for updated bookmarks
- See pictures in posts, resized for the screen
- Open Youtube and links in its own browser
- Quote post text
- Easy bold and italics in the post composer
- Post drafts automatically saved until you delete or post them

COMING SOON
- Polls: Right now the threads are displayed, but the options aren't there and you can't vote
- Starting a new thread

WHAT IT WON'T DO
- Work with the old-style bookmarks. If you've set them in preferences, unset them to use Zing.

WHAT IT NEEDS
OS 3.0 or better (if you've got an old iPod Touch you'll have to upgrade, but 3.0 is miles better anyway)

Zing Lite is free on the app store. There is also the buy-Stet-a-pint version, Zing Touch, which is £4.99/$7.99 and will probably get new features first. Right now they are identical, except for some wee ads in Zing Lite.

Featurerequests: reordering of boards in the board list, so I can drag my favourites to the top. And those little filled-or-hollow bullet points that tell me whether there are new posts in a thread.

at first this annoyed me bcz the post button looked like it was a button saying you can now upload images to dedicated ilx hosting

but once I figured it out I decided the no worky is just a new poxy fule (in terms of in-crowd) and should stay for 8-19 years

One thing I miss: if you type a new post then hit the back button, it no longer stores what you've typed when you go back to it. I can see myself getting very annoyed at losing a whole half-written post by accident!

This doesn't apply to replies where you tap on a message then tap on the bendy arrow to reply - that seems to use the old interface and draft replies are cached fine.

I never really knew how many people used that - and it caused a few accidental posts when people didn’t realise their old post was still in there. I could do a proper drafts thing to solve both.

Ah right - that would be good, though I think a lot of the time I click out assuming it will be autosaved so would help a lot if it prompted you so save the unposted text as a draft at least. Like Twitter does I guess.

bookmark button is on the right in individual post view but on the left in thread view. I don’t mind which side it’s on but it seems like it should be in the same corner w the same icon in both views.

The bookmark is style old style ON IPAD but I might be the only one who uses that

I love this update, but I do miss the old gray color scheme and little toggle button, but it's a tiny thing.

I still miss the gradients-everywhere and reflective-black v1 tbh. Down with flat design.

question about the new bookmark button—it’s great how it turns to a checkmark when the message is bookmarked but then it quickly turns back to the bookmark icon—is it possible for the checkmark to persist?

getting that multiple accounts thing again, forget where the executable is supposed to live to prevent that. Moved it out of the download area to application but no dice.

On the Mac? Yes it happens when it’s in the Downloads folder. You’ll have to trash the plist to fix it - it’s in ~/Library/Application Support/com.haunteddancehall.zing iirc

Ah sorry, that was bad info. What happens if you go into the prefences window, account tab, and hit the "-" on all the accounts? (You'll need to be on at least build 105)

Not sure if this is a known issue — if I search from SNA, then click into a thread, then back out (right swipe or arrow) I’m back at SNA and not at the search results.

I can’t reproduce that — it’s going back to the search results for me. What phone/OS are you using?
