Not 100% sure if I heard HR correctly, but I believe he said Mauer hurts his case for MVP because HE IS A CATCHER, which means he cannot play every day, unlike Derek Jeter.

And I think I heard him say that Mauer played in 130 games (he played 138) while Jeter played every day (actually 153), for a 32 game difference (technically less than half of that, but whatever).

Andy K, Friday, 6 November 2009 17:03 (fourteen years ago) link

HR said JM played in 110 games -- cherry picking that he had, in fact, played in 138 games (DH, etc).

Mauer was injured for the start of the season, and returned on May 1st. He missed 22 games because of injury. Besides the injury, he only missed two games. So what the fuck is harold on about.

During MLB Network's playoff preview, Plesac goes off on the postseason brilliance of Mariano Rivera -- like we're all in for a real treat, and you can BET ON IT -- as a highlight reel of his regular-season blown saves is played. One of the superlatives is synced up perfectly with Rivera sulking off the mound.

Al Michaels and Bob Costas are doing the Mets vs. Giants game tonight at 7PM.

The first three innings will be fairly basic, with Costas calling the first inning and a half and Michaels the next inning and a half. They'll speak directly to fans of both teams by switching to SportsNet New York's booth for the fourth and fifth innings before taking over ComCast SportsNet Bay Area's broadcast for the sixth and seventh innings (Krukow and Kuiper will handle MLB Network duties during that span). Then it's back to the MLB Network telecast for both Michaels and Costas.
