Pluots are so delicious.

Eazy, Friday, 7 December 2007 18:42 (sixteen years ago) link

I prefer doing crosswords alone, too.

jaymc, Friday, 7 December 2007 18:46 (sixteen years ago) link

But that's largely because I like the sense of pride and accomplishment, where I can be like I DID THAT ALL BY MYSELF.

jaymc, Friday, 7 December 2007 18:47 (sixteen years ago) link

Wamu's hold music sounds like the intro for "Like a Virgin"

Jesse, Friday, 7 December 2007 18:49 (sixteen years ago) link

before i moved in with jen our sunday morning ritual was doing the online crossword in the irish times, euro spellings fucked us every time.

chicago kevin, Friday, 7 December 2007 18:50 (sixteen years ago) link

i have an as yet unfulfilled fantasy about sunday morning in bed, including a lady, coffee, and crosswords. maybe waffles.

Jordan, Friday, 7 December 2007 19:21 (sixteen years ago) link

my left eye has been twitching uncontrollably for the last few days, wtf

Jordan, Friday, 7 December 2007 19:22 (sixteen years ago) link

Hey, what does "FTW" stand for?

Jesse, Friday, 7 December 2007 19:23 (sixteen years ago) link

for the win

Jordan, Friday, 7 December 2007 19:23 (sixteen years ago) link

jordan, don't be greedy. i'd settle for a sunday in bed with any one of those things.

chicago kevin, Friday, 7 December 2007 19:24 (sixteen years ago) link

is it really so much to ask?!

Jordan, Friday, 7 December 2007 19:25 (sixteen years ago) link

(i guess the lady is the key part that i've been missing)

Jordan, Friday, 7 December 2007 19:26 (sixteen years ago) link

Fuck The World

Laurel, Friday, 7 December 2007 19:26 (sixteen years ago) link

waffles in bed seems like a bad idea to me, especially if they have maple syrup on (which they must do). i can't even imagine having syrup seeping into the mattress.

colette, Friday, 7 December 2007 19:27 (sixteen years ago) link

Fear The Waffles

chicago kevin, Friday, 7 December 2007 19:28 (sixteen years ago) link

i can't even imagine having syrup seeping into the mattress.

of all the things that could seep into a mattress maple syrup is probably the most innocuous.

chicago kevin, Friday, 7 December 2007 19:28 (sixteen years ago) link

just don't use too much syrup, waffles are nature's syrup holders. or sometimes i make sour cream waffles and top with sour cream.

Jordan, Friday, 7 December 2007 19:30 (sixteen years ago) link

btw, i have my cold brew coffee cold brewing at home. or, i guess it brewed last night, and now the concentrate is draining. i'm a little skeptical of the microwaving part, but i look forward to not having to make coffee for at least two weeks.

Jordan, Friday, 7 December 2007 19:34 (sixteen years ago) link

OMG Jordan's sour cream waffles!!!
You should talk about them with a lady friend and maybe one thing will lead to another.

KitCat, Friday, 7 December 2007 19:37 (sixteen years ago) link

oh, i have talked up breakfast at my place already :>

Jordan, Friday, 7 December 2007 19:39 (sixteen years ago) link

I would be more than happy to act as a reference on behalf of your waffle-making skills.

KitCat, Friday, 7 December 2007 19:43 (sixteen years ago) link

Man, I totally want to make those this weekend.

KitCat, Friday, 7 December 2007 19:43 (sixteen years ago) link

Check this out. One of my sisters was supposed to buy my sister-in-law's train ticket and get reimbursed for it (they were traveling from DC together) and she FORGOT to buy the other ticket!! Now the train is full. :-(

KitCat, Friday, 7 December 2007 19:44 (sixteen years ago) link

ugh, that sounds not good, sarah! this is why i prefer to make my own travel arrangements even if it means doing it for other people as well...

colette, Friday, 7 December 2007 19:46 (sixteen years ago) link

Totally random - of course - but at lunch today we were talking about our benefits program, since we're in open enrollment now. Anyway, all these questions were flying, so I came out with, "Hey, does it make any sense to start a 401k even though our company doesn't match contributions?" And it was like a total freeze-frame in a bad comedy, perhaps accompanied by a record scratch, whereupon one coworker said, "Sarah!! You are foolish not to already have a 401k at your age! Please tell me you at least have an IRA going??" Oh, good times.

KitCat, Friday, 7 December 2007 19:50 (sixteen years ago) link

Hard to schedule in until basketball season's over, right?

"Breakfast in Bed" by Dusty Springfield is one of the great raunchy songs ever.

The EEE reminded me of this book.

Eazy, Friday, 7 December 2007 20:00 (sixteen years ago) link

Ugh. I need to put away money for retirement. Or funeral at least.

Jesse, Friday, 7 December 2007 20:01 (sixteen years ago) link

you know how it is, she's got games, finals, ACTs, driver's license test, etc.

Jordan, Friday, 7 December 2007 20:02 (sixteen years ago) link

chicago kevin, Friday, 7 December 2007 20:06 (sixteen years ago) link

who babysits the babysitters?

Jordan, Friday, 7 December 2007 20:07 (sixteen years ago) link

you do, uncle badtouch.

chicago kevin, Friday, 7 December 2007 20:07 (sixteen years ago) link

Overheard in New York:

Dad: What are you going to do if a boy tries to kiss you?
Little girl: Bop him on the head.
Dad: That's right -- bop him on the head with a stick.

Laurel, Friday, 7 December 2007 20:08 (sixteen years ago) link

all the kids are "bopping" these days

dan m, Friday, 7 December 2007 20:11 (sixteen years ago) link

chicago kevin, Friday, 7 December 2007 20:16 (sixteen years ago) link

there's a film trailer that's on the "kicking and screaming" VHS that i've seen a million times, and this conversation is making me thing of part of it. "she's 16, she's got no pores!" "she's got no drivers license."

you had to be there, obv.

hmm, i would like to go home now to make the focaccia for tonight.

colette, Friday, 7 December 2007 20:25 (sixteen years ago) link

Yay! Oh, by the way, c, my mom found a used dutch oven for me for xmas! I haven't tried making the bread yet though.

KitCat, Friday, 7 December 2007 20:30 (sixteen years ago) link

cool, it's actually evolving all over the place. cooks illustrated suggests replacing about 1/3 of the water with beer (light lager, to be exact) and add a teaspoon of vinegar as well. this gives it a more flavorful taste...i think it helps, but we're probably just going to make a starter and use that.

colette, Friday, 7 December 2007 20:35 (sixteen years ago) link

all my friends are boppin' the blues, it must be goin' round

Hey, I just found that my big Hollywood movie appearance from 1995 is online. I'm wearing glasses and am not attractively outfitted, at 0:04.

Eazy, Friday, 7 December 2007 20:46 (sixteen years ago) link

It took some acting prep to appear to be convincingly engaged in conversation with my walking companion.

Eazy, Friday, 7 December 2007 20:52 (sixteen years ago) link

Was the language barrier much of a problem for you?

dan m, Friday, 7 December 2007 20:54 (sixteen years ago) link

They CGI-ed my mouth to make it look like I was speaking Spanish.

jaymc, Friday, 7 December 2007 20:59 (sixteen years ago) link

does anyone know anything about the red-blue line superstation planned for Block 37? I keep reading that the platform and tracks will be connected, but I don't understand how the tracks can be connected.
