We can implement with the proviso that nobody's allowed to talk about politics taking place in their own country.

just delete all the sub-boards (except for TMI, natch) and we can have a true ILE.

Matt, you obv are unaware that there will be no more US politics once Mr Wonderful's Candyland is in full effect on Jan. 20. Just gumballs, pretzels and rivers of bourbon.

collardio gelatinous, Friday, 17 October 2008 15:32 (fifteen years ago) link

just saying, there's not likely to be the same volume of discussion post-US elections, at least for a while. Anyway, I'd rather have discussion of important shit that I care about be on the main page, rather than a sub-board that I'll forget to read. Isn't the point of sub-boards to be for fun/hobbies/specialized stuff?

btw i would support I Love Candyland.

I have no problem with any number of sub-boards for talking about stupid crap but prefer not to have interesting subjects siphoned away from ILE.

Matt DC, Sunday, 19 October 2008 23:12 (fifteen years ago) link

if we could siphon the UK politics regulars away from ILE but keep the politics talk that'd be totes awesome

Personally, I usually use Site New Answers, but I can see this being a concern to those who don't.

I don't think politics is a specialized enough subject to warrant a niche board, I'd rather have political threads here.

popular poll!

○◙i shine cuz i genital grind◙○ (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 21 October 2008 03:12 (fifteen years ago) link

My reasoning behind the poll was that with SNA, people who care about politics can watch the board, while people who don't could easily avoid it by not watching the board. And I think it would be conductive for more inside baseball-type political discussion that might be lost on ILE, or jammed into one of the rolling threads.

And I'm not sure I get some of the above reasoning...I would think that those who voted no because they hate politics would have liked the idea of siphoning off much of the political traffic to a sub-board that can easily be ignored?

ILX MOD (musically), Tuesday, 21 October 2008 17:34 (fifteen years ago) link

I voted against further 'balkanization' - God knows I love politics.

Michael White, Tuesday, 21 October 2008 17:35 (fifteen years ago) link

I didn't mean to say that everyone who voted no hates politics...there were just a few comments above I was referring to.

two weeks pass...

you know, an i love politics board might actually stimulate more political discussion

non-election-time discussion i mean

I'm quite unaware of the existence of other boards.

fuck the NRA (Neanderthal), Sunday, 9 September 2018 18:16 (five years ago) link

So how do we actually get a politics board? I don't know the decision process for new boards. Do we need to do a new poll?

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Sunday, 9 September 2018 18:27 (five years ago) link

Amendment required. Needs ratification from 2/3rds of thread posters plus gabbnebb

fuck the NRA (Neanderthal), Sunday, 9 September 2018 18:29 (five years ago) link

Is there a real answer to this? The thread revive has convinced me it is a good idea.

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Sunday, 9 September 2018 18:38 (five years ago) link

not since the 69th amendment passed which states, and i quote: "Congress fhall make no Lawe in contradiction to the Notion of 'Fuck Gabbneb'" which the ilx board lawyers have interpreted to mean that we don't need his approval bc fuck gabbneb.

xp

I Love Politics board redux - this time with feeling!

Surprisingly large amount of people turning up on the new thread to vote no. This may be a much less popular idea than I thought.

A is for (Aimless), Monday, 10 September 2018 16:33 (five years ago) link

yeah, I'm not complaining, just surprised. Honestly don't have a big stake in the result, but I started the poll because it seemed like there were a bunch of people wanting a forum, but no one taking the steps to make it happen.

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Monday, 10 September 2018 16:41 (five years ago) link

and there's a load of people votimg no, right

NAGL usa (darraghmac), Monday, 10 September 2018 16:41 (five years ago) link

as far as I can tell, may just be that no is more vocal

I've googled the lyrics to the song and I'm looking for the perfect line to copy and paste next.
Do I go with the next one in the song?
Or do I jam an ILX inside joke into another line that doesn't follow, thereby excusing its out of place appearance?
