Other less likely explanations involve "Hogan" (a nickname for Irish workers at the Hogg Island shipyard), a reference to the pork or "hog" meat used in hoagies, "honky sandwich" (using a racial slur for white people seen eating them) or "hooky sandwich" (derived from "hookie" for truant kids seen eating them).[3] Shortly after WWII, there were numerous varieties of the term in use throughout Philadelphia. By the 1940s, the spellings "hoagie" and, to a lesser extent, "hoagy" had come to dominate lesser user variations like "hoogie" and "hoggie".[10] By 1955, restaurants throughout the area were using the term "hoagie", with many selling hoagies and subs or hoagies and pizza. Listing in Pittsburgh show hoagies arriving in 1961 and becoming widespread in that city by 1966.[10]

Brel worked on the song at his house overlooking the Mediterranean at Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, the house he shared with Sylvie Rivet, a publicist for Philips, in the place she had made known to him in 1960. It was the ideal place for him to create, and to indulge his passion for boats and planes. One morning at six o'clock he read the words of Amsterdam to Fernand, a restaurateur who was about to set off fishing for scorpion fish and conger eels for the bouillabaisse. Overcome, Fernand broke out in sobs and cut open some sea urchins to help control his emotion.[2]

Before its new use, the word crunk meant a hoarse, harsh cry.[6] The first known use of the word crunk was in 1972 by Dr. Seuss in his book Marvin K. Mooney Will You Please Go Now!.[7] In the book, crunk was used as a part of crunk-car compound, which meant inexistent type of transport.[8] In the mid 1990s, crunk was variously defined either as "hype, phat" or "the past tense of 'crank'" on rec.music.hip-hop newsgroup.[4] In 1999, Rolling Stone magazine published "glossary of Dirty South slang", where to crunk was defined as "to get excited".[4] The lyrics of "Who U Wit?", 1996 song by Lil Jon, contained the very first use of the word crunk in the context of crunk music.[2]

COPS was created by John Langley and his producing partner Malcolm Barbour. In 1983 Langley was working on Cocaine Blues, a television series about drugs in which everyone seemed to enjoy South Florida. As part of his research he went on a drug raid with drug enforcement officers, and was inspired to create a show focusing on real-life law enforcement.

Silly Putty is flammable. When lit, the flame is a very bright white but burns slowly. The leftover ash crumbles very easily. When Silly Putty is microwaved for about 3 minutes, it becomes very sticky. However, when cooled, the putty returns to its original state. When Silly Putty is baked in an oven at 450 degrees F for 15 minutes, it gives off noxious fumes. The cookie sheet on which the Silly Putty was baked will have a combination of dried putty and very hot, sticky putty.

A review of Holmes' films over the course of his career shows that most of his early co-stars tended to be short and slender, whereas women with whom he engaged in onscreen sex later in his career were much taller and had proportionately larger bodies; as a result, the size of Holmes' penis appears to fluctuate in his films, relative to the height and mass of his co-stars.[8]

The Fighter, a film slated to star Christian Bale as Eklund and Mark Wahlberg as younger brother Micky Ward is scheduled to begin filming in late 2009.[4] The film will chronicle the brothers growing up in Lowell and how Eklund pushed Ward back into the ring after his early retirement leading to three bouts with Arturo Gatti. Three of Ward's post-retirement fights were voted fight of the year by Ring Magazine. Eklund served as Ward's trainer until his retirement after his third fight with Gatti on June 7, 2003.
