xp it's possible. my memory might be off but with the exception of IV, they have usually announced previous games pretty close to actual release

yeah, loving this too, yeah it's just GTAIV but something about it (the characters? voice work? story? perspective?) just makes it so much more lovable

I'm gonna end up buying this on disc despite having L&D, so I can get the extra radio station and not have to cripple my 20gb hard drive earlier
early adopters gettin fuccccked
― MPx4A, Friday, 30 October 2009 13:02 (fourteen years ago) link
earlier = further
― MPx4A, Friday, 30 October 2009 13:03 (fourteen years ago) link
oh this is so great. i'm mostly ignoring the missions in favour of driving around listening to sister sledge and candi staton.
this has me wondering, how much would an act get paid for having their song used in the game? seems like a bargain to have so many incredible songs to listen to AS WELL AS an awesome game, for only £15 or so. maybe the licensing wouldn't cost much though, i can imagine acts being keen to waive the fee just to have their music on there. does anyone know the details of ths?
― NI, Friday, 30 October 2009 13:31 (fourteen years ago) link
xpost woah, the disc version has extra songs?!
ha, there are mentions of vice city in the story and the cameos are great

One thing driving me crazy about L&D (just playing it now) is how fucking USELESS the bikes are in a police chase.
-they can shoot you off the bike-they can ram you off the bike-the bike corners for shit-the bike can't ram through barriers-I don't like the bike-Why do I have to use the bike
― antexit, Friday, 30 October 2009 16:58 (fourteen years ago) link
Yeah, but that's where knowing which alleys to shoot through is pretty helpful.
― Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Friday, 30 October 2009 17:32 (fourteen years ago) link
i much preferred the racing sidegames in L&D. the beauty of bikes is that they're nimble and can slip through gaps easier (the zippier ones anyway, not the lumbering hells angels ones)
― NI, Friday, 30 October 2009 17:35 (fourteen years ago) link
I heard the bikes control better in TLaD? I haven't played it yet tho

― like moses, the townfolk like the red sea (stevie), Friday, 30 October 2009 18:42 (fourteen years ago) link
yeah bikes handle much better then cars. you can get through traffic and alleys easier. they also made it harder to fly off the handle bars. the real bullshit is when a cop shoots out your tire.

xxxpost what's going on with the radio? so the disc version has all those stations missing but a bunch of extra songs? there's no way on earth i could put up with not having the vibe. fusion, IF, jazz & journey too, all pretty much essential.
― NI, Saturday, 31 October 2009 15:13 (fourteen years ago) link
Is the extra Mondeo Pop station on the disc worth losing half the best original stations for? I haven't finished GTA so I can always go back and listen to those ones during my six monthly chunk of main game but I'unno man

I know I'm a bit late to the party on this but I am LOVING Lost & Damned. I'm loving just grinding side quests, which I never liked doing on GTA4. Best game starring a Jewish biker I've played this year.
― antexit, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 02:59 (fourteen years ago) link
the sidequests on both the DLCs are brilliant, much better than the main game car-stealing ones. i'm spending all my time on drug wars on BOGT at the moment, leaving the main plot til i've done these.
― NI, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 11:56 (fourteen years ago) link
hang on, so they changed the name of this latest DLC?

― antexit, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 16:12 (fourteen years ago) link
so for the record, the best version of Lost and Damned is the DLC version, though they put in a new radio station to make up for it?
― Nhex, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 16:35 (fourteen years ago) link
There are a few new radio stations, guys-- Self-Actualization is a trancey techno station like The Journey (I thought it'd be a new-age talk station) and there's a new hip-hop station, and the rock station has all new songs and all new Iggy.
― antexit, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:03 (fourteen years ago) link
Just started TBOGT and I got back in the Liberty City ZONE for the first time in forever (didn't get L&D) - kickin' it on a bike, cruising round and listening to Smashing Pumpkins' 1979 - when it ground to a halt with "unable to read disc". Totally harshed my buzz ;_;

The addition of nitro has RUINED the online racing.
― George Mucus (ledge), Tuesday, 10 November 2009 12:05 (fourteen years ago) link
Also disappointed there are no new co-op missions that i can grind to get my ranking up. Although given that bronze to silver takes as much money as n00b to bronze, and it took me a couple of unemployed months to get that far, chances would be slim anyway.
― George Mucus (ledge), Tuesday, 10 November 2009 12:23 (fourteen years ago) link
Damn the L&D multiplayer modes look pretty good, maybe I should get that too.
― George Mucus (ledge), Tuesday, 10 November 2009 12:24 (fourteen years ago) link
racing in L& D is fantastic.
i haven't played a single deathmatch/race in TBOGT, and i haven't really played more than the first couple of missions either; i just seem to spend all my (admittedly limited) time on the xbox dicking about in online free mode, stealing helicopters and being blitzed by helicopters.

I love both these chapters like I love a milkshake. More of this in the next standalone GTA pls! Less mandatory man-dates and drudgery and inviting people out on a date and then shooting them in the head
― antexit, Tuesday, 10 November 2009 15:57 (fourteen years ago) link
Would still like more of the sideshow stuff that was in previous incarnations - stock car racing, trials bike courses in the junkyard, etc.
― George Mucus (ledge), Tuesday, 10 November 2009 16:08 (fourteen years ago) link
Yes. And more stores, or at least have stores that sell different things. The thing is it seems like R* doesn't allow you to do anything that the character wouldn't do-- semi-pro dirtbike racing, pizza delivery, etc. You know what would be cool is if you had a much longer story arc for some fun-loving Elmore Leonard antihero style criminal in the midwest or something who starts off small-time as a teenager, boosting cars and maybe a little armed robbery but mostly doing it because he loves fun and doesn't want a real job-- but he also does shit on the side for fun like racing and stuntdriving and wheelman shit-- and he gets more and more involved in serious crime as he gets older, and the story gets darker and darker, until he's like Val Kilmer in Heat.

yeah the current style of "i'm just an easygoing guy trying to get by - oh hey mr crazy guy i've never met before, sure i'll blow up a boat full of arms dealers for you" is a little o_O

some of the characterization in TBOGT are wacked. you deal with this Mori dude who's basically the same character as Brucie. except, he's Brucie's (older?) brother. and Brucie himself is totally pussified, but learns to deal with his bullying brother. except this story takes place at the same time as the main arc. it doesn't make any sense. this bugged this shit out of me tbh.
― goole, Tuesday, 10 November 2009 16:59 (fourteen years ago) link
that was brucie?! shit. i was trying to cook sausages at the same time as that cutscene was playing tho.

my fave wish for GTAV: chicago, but taking place in -- get this -- two different times!! the old godfather trick. two difft versions of the same city, one in the 20s, one today, and you flip back and forth at difft times, one as your own grandfather, and decisions you make in the past can affect things in the present. fuckin awesome, huh.
xp yeah, no sense at all.
