How Many ILM Posters Ever Saw GG Allin Dead?

not me, but this was written by a guy who knows people i know. so i'm, uh, two degrees of separation from seeing gg allin dead. which is as close as i wanna be. (actually mike bowling just popped up a few weeks ago on a knoxville message board, posting from prague. we got in an argument about universal health care.)

G.G. ELVIS AND THE T.C.P. BAND TO RELEASE DEBUT "BACK FROM THE DEAD" THROUGH MENTAL RECORDS ON JUNE 24
Several punk veterans collaborate to form extreme Punk Rock Elvis tribute.
Mental Records is pleased to announce the release of G.G. Elvis and the T.C.P. Band “Back From The Dead” for worldwide distribution on June 24, 2008. This utterly insane group of comedic mutha’ f*ckers manically combines the very best (and worst) of the “King of Rock” Elvis Presley and self-professed “King of Punk” G.G. Allin into a smash up punk rock Elvis tribute the likes of which the world has never seen. We’re talkin’ tight comedy-fused high-intensity music, masterfully mixed with well-known punk rock cover songs of Elvis classics. So in other words… PARTY!
Hailing from Oxnard, California (Ventura County just north of L.A.) the band features some of the “Nardcore” nest including members of NOFX, Agression, Bad Samaritans, Ill Repute, Stalag 13 & Dr. Know.
Formed in the summer 2006 by punk rock guitarist and Elvis Presley aficionado Tony Cortez (Ill Repute) and the dynamic lead guitarist and punk luminary Dave Cassillas (NOFX, Stalag 13 & Agression), G.G. Elvis and the T.C.P. Band actually began as the musical combo “Punk Rawk Elvis”. After several lineup changes, and some soul searching, Cortez enlisted the services of lead vocalist Eric Lara (Bad Samaritans), legendary punk beat-master Larry White (Agression, Stalag 13 & Dr. Know), bass-man George “Horhay” Snow (Bad Samaritans and Jughead’s Revenge), back up singer “Little Sister” Sara Jo Merin, and the formation of the T.C.P. (Taking Care of Punk) Band was complete.
After only three hasty rehearsals, G.G. Elvis and the T.C.P. Band made their live debut in Las Vegas at the infamous BYO Records sponsored Punk Rock Bowling Tournament, and the overly enthusiastic crowd was all shook the f*ck up! Since that fateful day, the band has played many-a-packed house and there ain’t no turnin’ back.
“Back From The Dead”, their debut, limited edition scratch n’ sniff release, was recorded at 60 Psycho Hum Recording Studios in Medford, Oregon and was produced by Mental Records co-owner, Doug Hill. It includes the controversial never-before-seen DVD exposé with shocking videos, rare interviews, photos, extras and special features. This explosive, gut-wrenching blend of outrageously tight punk infused Elvis classics will leave many a man balled up on the bathroom floor, hysterically choking on his own vomit and begging for more. Viva la G.G. Elvis!

Personas and Personnel:
G.G. Elvis aka Eric Lara – lead vocals (Bad Samaritans)
Elvis of Nazareth aka Tony Cortez – guitar (Ill Repute)
“Has-Been” Elvis aka Larry White – drums (Agression / Stalag 13)
Elvis Vicious aka Dave Casillas – lead guitar (NOFX / Stalag 13)
Elvis ’56 aka George “Horhay” Snow – bass (Bad Samaritans / Jughead’s Revenge)
Little Sister aka Sara Jo Merin - backing vocals

two years pass...

I saw G.G numerous times and talked to him on phone quite abit...I was in Volcano Suns and he opened for us in chicago...he was awful of course...during soundcheck some girl was in the bathroom and he kicked the stall door open and yelled let me eat your tampon...he had heard we did drink fight and fuck so he and some buddy who were traveling together (they had bought greyhound bus passes to go wherever they wanted on tour) were standing at the foot of the stage as we went thru our set...G.G kept yelling drink fight and fuck...wanting to hop up on stage with us and sing...the more he yelled, the less we wanted to do the song of course...just to annoy the guy...so about half way thru the set he and his bro started chanting "Pussies"...all in all a great night and G.G. was very easy guy to wind up which we always enjoyed doing when there was an asshole around...

A few years later I set up a show in Boston where I and two of my friends were his backing band..."Vanilla Douche"...it took alot of smooth talking to even get the club to let us play...I remember being on the phone with him and telling him it was gonna be "G.G Allin and Vanilla Douche"...after a long pause he said "my god, that is a killer name"...he kept asking to come over to my house to rehearse and as my girlfriend at the time would not let him step into the house I gave him the setlist and told him to show up at soundcheck and we would just run thru it and it would be fine...all the songs took about 30 secs apeice to learn anyhow and as I had seen him perform along with a cassette tape, I figured we would be fine...in alot of odd ways he was a total pussycat and an easy guy to strongarm and push around...unfortunately, when we showed up for soundcheck, G.G. had gotten there a half hour before us and proceeded to break a bunch of chairs and then shit on the floor...this with only a bartender or two there...they cancelled the show and threw him out...never saw or heard from G.G. again.

His set was supposed to be backed by both Squirrel Bait and Volcano Suns guys, but his behavior during the soundcheck pretty much nixed that idea. I believe he took a shit during the soundcheck

immense irl lol

Nah, not me. Adult humans that get shit on me on purpose might have a tendency to bleed and stop living. I've had Iggy Pop stage-dive sweat on me before, and the singer from Anti-seen bled on me once, but I draw the line at poop. Sorry.

This Chicago showstopper?

Didn't the Geeg arrive on the greyhound brandishing a half empty bottle of scotch and a grubby miniature dildo in a brown paper bag? Said dildo being quadruple the size of the Geeg tail?

One of my nephew's friends had him hiding out at his house in Tampa, and he offered to introduce me to him. I chickened out. I regret this quite a bit.

via the chicago show...noone, not us, or bait was supposed to "back" him...have no idea where any of that came from...noone ever would have been agreed to soemthing so silly...the guy got off a greyhound with, I still remember, his buddy....bloody f. mess...who was up front during his bananarama thing singing to a cassette...BF mess taking pics with some tiny kodak tourist camera like he was at disneyworld and getting an up close of some fucked up goofy...

ack...by the way, which got me into this mess...our cover of drink fight and fuck is up on our myspace site...volcano suns ect and blah...should you want to hear it...we worked real hard on getting that Fuck into a new hamshire fuc...

Wow.

The Volcano Suns were a great band, I have a load of their records.

I actually like a lot of GG Allin songs but I think I'd have a harder time liking them if he wasn't dead, if that makes any sense.

^^^^^GREATEST POST IN ILX HISTORY

Mr. Snrub, Thursday, 29 April 2010 23:12 (thirteen years ago) link

The wikipedia article needs amending here However, his status as a cult figure is such that a number of bands have covered his songs. Among them, Faith No More has covered "I Wanna Fuck Myself", CKY has covered "Bite it You Scum", the 69 Eyes have covered "Gimme Some Head," Beck has covered "Tough Fucking Shit", and The Lemonheads have covered "Layin' Up With Linda". to add Joseph Cotton.

Willing Travelbury (S-), Friday, 30 April 2010 05:55 (thirteen years ago) link

x-post - ha yes, that is awesome

I used to know the director who made Hated and at one point thought it was the greatest thing because he was just so fucking ridiculous but haven't watched it in years. I don't think I would have gone to see Allin irl if you had paid me though.

Aqua Backrat (ENBB), Friday, 30 April 2010 08:22 (thirteen years ago) link

the 69 Eyes have covered "Gimme Some Head,"

this is one of the saddest songs in history, by the way - there's a poignancy to it because it predates GG actually figuring out what's shocking - it sounds like it was written by a guy who's really never done much but suspects there's a whole really transgressive world out there, but the most transgressive thing he can really think of is some head. Hey ,now , girls, I want lip-service/I don't wear a uniform and I'm not in the service/I've been in all day never seein' the sun/but when the sun goes down to the night I come/girls ,girls ,girls ,girls/gimme ,gimme ,gimme some head/I like the nasty things that you do to me in bed. Yes, GG. The incredibly nasty things as for example this really common sex practice that everybody does. I am excited to hear that you don't leave the house til after the sun goes down though! Incredible! Do the authorities know about this?

Really, that this song begins "Hey now, girls," is the sort of thing that, on the wrong day on a big enough sleep deficit, will make me cry for several hours

also lol'd. hadn't realised he was such a perfectionist

Cosign 'aerosmith's' post above.

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Friday, 30 April 2010 13:15 (thirteen years ago) link

It's the underlying subtext to "Man in a Shed" by Nick Drake.

Mark G, Friday, 30 April 2010 14:27 (thirteen years ago) link

CKY has covered "Bite it You Scum"

misread that as CSNY for a second there

Brio, Friday, 30 April 2010 14:46 (thirteen years ago) link

say what you want about GG musically, but "gimme some head" is one damn catchy tune

鬼の手 (Edward III), Friday, 30 April 2010 15:06 (thirteen years ago) link

all the early stuff I've heard with the Jabbers is great. some of my favourite punk tunes.

gnarly sceptre, Friday, 30 April 2010 15:43 (thirteen years ago) link

also, even the pre-Jabbers material. are Love Tunnel, Lover's Triangle and 1980's Rock n Roll pre-Jabbers? those tracks are almost unrecognisable from later stuff.

gnarly sceptre, Friday, 30 April 2010 15:47 (thirteen years ago) link

The Scumfucs era is pretty good too IMO, after that it all goes to shit lol see what I did there

Anyone know where we can find dave q's awesome post about that SF show, referenced way up top? I remember being very entertained by that, I think it was on another thread.

Mark, Saturday, 1 May 2010 01:59 (thirteen years ago) link

As a followup local postscript...he is buried over in Littleton N.H. right on Vermont border...I think that is the name of the town tho I could be wrong...one of the little local papers runs a story every six months or so about "fans" of his doing odd things at his grave...leaving odd shit around, bothering the other graves ect ect...

personally, I never minded the guy...I just thought he was most likely a schizophrenic...common enough problem really...

cash, Saturday, 1 May 2010 18:42 (thirteen years ago) link

all goes to shit lol see what I did there

Yes I did see, Colonel Poo...

Check this, in fact. How exciting. He literally cuts the mustard. (snoball), Saturday, 1 May 2010 19:09 (thirteen years ago) link

"leaving odd shit around"

Inspired by this thread, just watched "Hated." His pee-pee was tiny.

thirdalternative, Thursday, 6 January 2011 02:33 (thirteen years ago) link

I mean, I've seen newborns with bigger pee-pees. I think this may have been the source of G.G.'s rage.

thirdalternative, Thursday, 6 January 2011 16:04 (thirteen years ago) link

i've heard it was because of cocaine use.

Tell that to John Holmes.
All the piss, shit and blood in Hated and everyone just remembers GG's mini-dick. What a legacy.

Satantango! (Matt #2), Thursday, 6 January 2011 21:36 (thirteen years ago) link

also there seem to be stories about him cutting off the tip, though I'm sure you'd be able to tell from pics whether that is true.

another thing: if he was so pissed about that, why would he make sure everyone knew about it?

/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\||||||( *__* )||||||/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ (res), Thursday, 6 January 2011 21:36 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm joking, kids.

I thought it was a good doc but the director's comment at the end, something along the lines, "I'd hoped GG Allin would have died in a more spectacular fashion, on stage suicide taking five fans with him, instead he died like a typical rock star" was enraging. What a FUCKING STUPID thing to say. Yeah, it would have been so much better if he'd taken five people with him. What a load.

thirdalternative, Friday, 7 January 2011 12:47 (thirteen years ago) link

tbf he did specify "GG Allin fans"

The 50-minute bonus footage was incredible, especially the very clean cut guy in a sort of raincoat who kept following GG around and sticking his fingers up GG's shitty asshole.
