there's an article online, maybe on the beloved website where he explains all the references. some of them were friends.

Awesome! Sometimes I feel like I'm not just the only one that loves this record but also that loves "Conscience" and "X."

I love the Beloved, all the albums, and just about all of the 12" remixes too. Jon Marsh is a great guy on social media. Providing lots of fan support through answering questions and offering up rare mixes / etc.
