That Au Revoir Simone remix is good for the italo freakout part alone.

It's nice, but I don't actually like it as much as the Time and Space Machine remix. Which is so psychedelic I had to stop and go "wait, is this *really* Doves?!?"
Speaking of twitter, I do wish that Aeroplane and Joakim would stop gossiping in French on twitter. I know enough French to know they're talking about some big secret, but not enough to know what it IS. Silly boys. Do they not know about direct messages or do they do this on purpose?

OK, listening to that remix, I'm realising that Aeroplane really do use all kinds of sounds that I would just think "whoa, that is totally completely cheesy!" - but somehow they pull it together and make it sound great.

I don't think they have a May mix. the one I know from May is this: http://www.discobelle.net/2008/05/25/aeroplane-flying-mix/
― dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Friday, 20 November 2009 11:54 (fourteen years ago) link
Um that Flying mix is almost a year and a half old now. Still a great mix though.
Also I'm fairly sure the monthly chart mixes only started in June and the first couple aren't that great. The last two have been much better though and seem to have benefited from a bit more thought rather than just sticking their favourite 10 tunes of the month together in a mix.
― groovypanda, Friday, 20 November 2009 12:03 (fourteen years ago) link
I thought the June one was boss.
I've got all of them, though I've mislabeled and have two Augusts and no July. Don't have the tracklist for one, so if anyone can clarify, let me know. I can upl0@d these if people want them.
― The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Friday, 20 November 2009 12:07 (fourteen years ago) link
I really liked the October mix, especially the Maurice Fulton remix of SMD that starts it.
The Take Off Mix that I think is also from last year is well worth tracking down, as it's much slower, more balearic, rather than their glossy indie-dance disco pop, which I also love.
I think the mix charts are a fab idea, even if they're not something you'd necessarily keep. Wish more people did them.

― jed_, Thursday, 24 December 2009 16:26 (fourteen years ago) link
I saw Aeroplane a couple of weeks ago and man, it's not really what i had expected. It's like hearing bits from their monthly mixes. No classic except for "Show Me Love" and it's not even a disco track. No balearic-ish stuff either. I'd say I'm disappointed if not for the fact that I had fun singing along to some songs. Anyone had the same experience?
― dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Thursday, 31 December 2009 03:24 (fourteen years ago) link
How many monthly mixes did you listen to before deciding they weren't going to sound like that live?
― Space Battle Rothko (Matt DC), Thursday, 31 December 2009 13:06 (fourteen years ago) link
ALL of them. Well, I had suspected they would've sounded like that before an ILM-er told me that they were different live than the monthly mixes. So he's to blame.

said this based on seeing them as a pair play a big party-friendly, Aeroplane-heavy festival set. have seen Vito solo twice since then; once quite jacking (higher-tempo, all-instrumental) in the basement of a gay pub, and once more of a big smiley choons set (inc Paris and Tellier remixes, the xx/Florence mix, some drum-heavy Pink Floyd rework) for a thousand or so ppl. Stephen's apparently the one who does the monthly mixes (since the last couple have come out while Vito's been in another hemisphere), and would have been the one you saw. Though it's also likely they each play different records every time!

Oh, alright, sic :)
I have a feeling that by the time the new album comes out, the hype will already be gone and people are getting bored.

i would rather the album be good than hyped, so i am totally ok with this ^ scenario

February mix:
01. Golden Bug : "Flamingo" 02. On The Prowl Presents OTP Party Breaks #1 : "Lifetime Groove" 03. Black Van : "Yearning" 04. Bottin & Rodion : "Galli (Give It Up)" 05. Hannulelauri : "Injury Time" 06. The Holidays : "Moonllight Hours" (The Swiss Remix) 07. Burns : "So Many Nights" 08. Slice & Soda : "Year Of The Dragon" (Villa Remix) 09. DyE : Nike 10. Fern Kinney : "Baby Let Me Kiss You"
Still haven't got round to listening to the January one yet even though I d/l it about 3 weeks ago. It seems churlish to complain when they're giving us a new mix for free each month, but it's definitely taken the sheen off my love for Aeroplane as I don't think any of them have come close to the quality of their earlier mixes.
Still have very high hopes for the album though which is 'close' to being finished apparently
