I am going to be so entertained at Dan's reactions to all these horrible songs yet to be unearthed.

it's kind of nice to know that my wholly unfair prejudgment of The Moldy Peaches was absolutely 100% accurate

@Christopher R. Weingarten: Millionaires are the new Runaways, grandpa.

as tom ewing said on twitter, "who's got the crack?" is 47 places too low on this list. what a vile song.

lex pretend, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 18:04 (fourteen years ago) link

I'm hoping that Ashlee Simpson, The Goo Goo Dolls, and Smashmouth didn't make the Worst of the 00's list, since they're all listed on the barfing iPod.

dabug, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 18:29 (fourteen years ago) link

(Ashlee for not having any songs that are anywhere in the vicinity of the 50 worst of the decade, other two because any badness worth anything happened before the decade started.)

dabug, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 18:31 (fourteen years ago) link

*~~ashlee's wondrous~~*

access flap (omar little), Tuesday, 20 October 2009 18:33 (fourteen years ago) link

also cuz "all star" is a dope song

k3vin k., Tuesday, 20 October 2009 18:34 (fourteen years ago) link

and who cares about any other SM songs

k3vin k., Tuesday, 20 October 2009 18:34 (fourteen years ago) link

Ey, all I'm saying is that there have been some REALLY awful songs this decade.

dabug, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 18:35 (fourteen years ago) link

I know no SM song exists that's worse than Bree Bree.

Mordy, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 18:35 (fourteen years ago) link

In fact, I bet there have been 50 worst-of-decade-worthy songs released this YEAR, according to this thread.

dabug, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 18:37 (fourteen years ago) link

i hope jordan has done that thread proud in his selections!

lex pretend, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 18:38 (fourteen years ago) link

There's gotta be some weighting for general importance, though -- something off of Brokencyde's new album should be worth more than something off of one that they self-released, in the same way that trolling MySpace or CDBaby for awful songs would seem to be a waste of time.

dabug, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 18:39 (fourteen years ago) link

I'd like to suggest that those who can also comment directly on Idolator; Whiney (and Maura!) can respond directly to commentary there.

the blackest thing ever seen (HI DERE), Tuesday, 20 October 2009 19:19 (fourteen years ago) link

47!

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 19:22 (fourteen years ago) link

holy lolz I never read the lyrics to that

"it's that clubs fault that I humped a 14-year-old girl on stage (let's pretend I never threw that male fan into the crowd)"

the blackest thing ever seen (HI DERE), Tuesday, 20 October 2009 19:30 (fourteen years ago) link

I had never heard "Control Myself" prior to Maura's post and I was somewhat floored by the production. Yes, all other elements of the song are concentrated dumb evil, but man, that beat.

BradNelson, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 19:57 (fourteen years ago) link

Brad Nelson (BradNelson), Tuesday, 20 October 2009 20:03 (fourteen years ago) link

Well that is a shame and something you should rectify asap.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 20 October 2009 20:10 (fourteen years ago) link

oh shit, we could see Jewel's "Intuition" on here

the blackest thing ever seen (HI DERE), Tuesday, 20 October 2009 20:12 (fourteen years ago) link

^Spoken by someone who learned love from Charlie Sheen. (In a postmodern world, the good is bad. Weird, I just listened to this song today for the first time in like two years.)

dabug, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 20:20 (fourteen years ago) link

Is "Intuition" the one that goes, "I see a burning bush to my left / I see something something to my right / You're not in sight. / You're not in sight?"

Mordy, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 20:28 (fourteen years ago) link

That's "Standing Still," the awfulness of which I had long forgotten until this new regrettable moment.

Brad Nelson (BradNelson), Tuesday, 20 October 2009 20:29 (fourteen years ago) link

I hope "Standing Still" appears on this list.

Mordy, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 20:29 (fourteen years ago) link

oh I had also forgotten about that song and yes, WAY worse than "Intuition"

the blackest thing ever seen (HI DERE), Tuesday, 20 October 2009 20:34 (fourteen years ago) link

Dear God that "Bree Bree" song is the worst fucking thing I've ever heard in my life.

Mr. Snrub, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 21:19 (fourteen years ago) link

there's something about songs being presented as "LOL THE WORST" that makes me end up liking them in a weird way. as if preexisting knowledge that something will be bad just sets you up for backward-dissapointment, "oh c'mon this isn't so bad." as stupid as the lyrics are the akon song is not even one of the songs akon released this decade. but yeah "why doesn't anyone wanna take blame? -> i'll take on all the blame -> even though it's on you" is hilarious.

samosa gibreel, Wednesday, 21 October 2009 04:27 (fourteen years ago) link

as stupid as the lyrics are the akon song is not even one of the songs akon released this decade

The missing word here makes this assertion wonderfully mystic.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 21 October 2009 04:38 (fourteen years ago) link

i'm not sure if whiney's timely expulsion will bode well for this thread. i'm with kshighway; dude can be a bit of a caricature of himself, but i think the laffs outweigh any annoyance or resentment engendered. huge lols on the article, though, like especially the decade breakdown.

samosa gibreel, Wednesday, 21 October 2009 04:40 (fourteen years ago) link

haha oops

samosa gibreel, Wednesday, 21 October 2009 04:40 (fourteen years ago) link

moldy peaches at 48 is some gauntlet-tossing critical audacity - how the fuck do you lower the bar 47 more notches?

I am assuming "Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell" and "Stars Are Blind" are going to pop up on here eventually (low 40s for Das Racist, high 20s for Paris).

the blackest thing ever seen (HI DERE), Wednesday, 21 October 2009 13:29 (fourteen years ago) link

I thought Whiney really genuinely liked the Das Racist song

some dude, Wednesday, 21 October 2009 13:33 (fourteen years ago) link

Maura is doing this, too!

2) that LL was purposely recycling his "Going Back To Cali" flow for old school points

actually the flow seems straight jacked from "Funky Cold Medina"...I'm always tempted to insert "like Mick Jagger said I can't get no satisfaction" in the verses.

that said, I love Control Myself and will rep the hell out of it.

musically, Wednesday, 21 October 2009 14:14 (fourteen years ago) link

well LL did "Cali" but not "Funky Cold Medina" and he did a bunch of interviews namechecking "Cali" when "Control Myself" came out so

some dude, Wednesday, 21 October 2009 14:19 (fourteen years ago) link

oh look at that whiny is blogging

am0n, Wednesday, 21 October 2009 14:29 (fourteen years ago) link

i know LL didn't do Funky Cold Medina, i'm saying the flow is identical.

musically, Wednesday, 21 October 2009 14:30 (fourteen years ago) link

blogs very much in character

access flap (omar little), Wednesday, 21 October 2009 14:57 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah...but if I'm talking about what LL was "purposefully" going for and referencing his own words, while you're saying "actually" like you're dropping a truth bomb or contradicting what i was saying at all

some dude, Wednesday, 21 October 2009 15:12 (fourteen years ago) link

also the meter is way closer to "Cali" than "Medina," you're still wrong

some dude, Wednesday, 21 October 2009 15:16 (fourteen years ago) link
