It is pretty expensive. Which reminds me--I got my shelves for 50% off because they were from a display unit and (very) slightly marred--no more than I will do to them in about 1 week of use.

Have any of you ever been to Whiting, IN? My sister is telling me that she watched some home design show last night where the couple was from Chicago and could only afford to spend $200k... and ended up buying there. It is 20 minutes out of town supposedly, but I'm sure that doesn't include traffic.

KitCat, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:00 (sixteen years ago) link

Apparently they have an annual pierogi fest.

oh dear god. this woman in my office is trying to describe 'across the universe' to her friend by describing 'moulin rouge' but doesn't remember what it's called or who's in it, and is also comparing it to 'the lion king on broadway'. she thinks it'll be so fun and trippy that she wants to get a big group to go and DRINK during it.

this is not convincing me to go see 'across the universe'

jesse, do you want to come over and organize my closet? this may involve unpacking at least 3 boxes which i've procrastinated for the last 3 months or so...

colette, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:05 (sixteen years ago) link

You know, I'd MUCH rather organize your closet than my own.

Jesse, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:06 (sixteen years ago) link

My house is currently not a place I enjoy being. It's a fucking wreck and it affects my sense of well-being. But I am such a fucking busy person!!

Once I get it to the point where I don't have to blindfold anyone who enters it I am calling Jenny and Jeff's cleaning lady.

Jesse, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:07 (sixteen years ago) link

I made fun of the container store a helluva lot when I first heard about it, because it reminded me of something out of UHF. Then I was annoyed at it for trying to capitalize on my desire for zen. Then I gave into it and bought a bunch of containers.

KitCat, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:10 (sixteen years ago) link

Weren't they named one of the best employers a while back?

Jesse, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:14 (sixteen years ago) link

Before they changed their name to The Container Store. They were One-of-the-Best-Employers Store.

Jesse, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:15 (sixteen years ago) link

when i was a kid, i used to go visit my grandparents in dallas and my grandma would take me to the container store and just wander around. i loved it.

i haven't bought much from there recently, though. we got a big airtight bin for the 50lb bag of flour we got from costco (we make a lot of bread), but nothing more exciting than that.

colette, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:16 (sixteen years ago) link

just looking at the website was a bit overwhelming

river wolf, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:17 (sixteen years ago) link

Look, I'm just going to say it ... the Container Store is DUMB.

n/a, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:18 (sixteen years ago) link

they sell boxes

river wolf, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:19 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah

n/a, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:19 (sixteen years ago) link

It is so not dumb.

You have to go there. The website is overwhelming, but going and touching all the containers gives one the sense of boundless optimism.

Jesse, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:19 (sixteen years ago) link

They sell Cleverness.

Jesse, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:20 (sixteen years ago) link

they just fucking sell boxes

dan m, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:22 (sixteen years ago) link

Have any of you ever been to Whiting, IN?

This is where that huge BP oil refinery is that's been in the news lately because they wanted to expand and pollute even more into Lake Michigan than they're already doing. Never been there, but I've driven on the Skyway often enough to know that that area isn't all that attractive.

jaymc, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:22 (sixteen years ago) link

The Container Store is not dumb.

kenan, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:22 (sixteen years ago) link

Jesse you should get a Container Store tattoo.

n/a, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:23 (sixteen years ago) link

The Container Store is going to be the issue that will finally tear CHILX (and possibly my marriage) apart.

n/a, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:23 (sixteen years ago) link

I was going to say that Nick's response is a typically guy response, but I don't even think that. I am pretty sure that Jeff is into it as well.

Jesse, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:24 (sixteen years ago) link

and is also comparing it to 'the lion king on broadway'.

Well, this isn't so weird since they're both directed by Julie Taymor. I'm kind of interested in it insofar as I'm a sucker for high-concept films, but I can also see myself completely hating it. I disliked Moulin Rouge, for instance.

jaymc, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:24 (sixteen years ago) link

And Kenan.

Jesse, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:24 (sixteen years ago) link

Never been there, but I've driven on the Skyway often enough to know that that area isn't all that attractive.

we should ALL pollute there!

river wolf, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:24 (sixteen years ago) link

I haven't been to the Container Store in years! It seems pretty cool, though.

jaymc, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:25 (sixteen years ago) link

the thing is, i NEED boxes

river wolf, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:25 (sixteen years ago) link

I
I was at The Container Store
You were there
Two worlds collided
And they could never tear us apart

kenan, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:25 (sixteen years ago) link

I really want to post that youtube link again, but I just can't.

dan m, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:25 (sixteen years ago) link

Nick and Sarah: FIGHT IT. Don't fall prey to the suburbs now that you're married. It doesn't have to be that way!

Jesse, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:26 (sixteen years ago) link

yes, do! I don't think I remembered to bookmark it.

kenan, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:26 (sixteen years ago) link

xpost

kenan, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:26 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh we are not moving to the suburbs, Sarah is just crazy.

n/a, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:27 (sixteen years ago) link

House for rent in Whiting is less than our rent now. Of course, you aren't in Chicago.

xposts... Ahhh, I see.

Jesse, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:30 (sixteen years ago) link

I could not in all good conscience discourage anyone from living there. It's lovely.

kenan, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:32 (sixteen years ago) link

This is more my style.

The word "bungalow" just sounds cozy.

kenan, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:36 (sixteen years ago) link

Someone sum up the underage sex thread for me. I just can't be bothered today. *sigh*

kenan, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:37 (sixteen years ago) link

The concept of characters like "Strawberry Field"...not for me.

The solution to the overperfumed is a sharp counterpunch with Febreeze.

Eazy, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:38 (sixteen years ago) link

Plenty of bungalows in Chicago once you get west of, say, Pulaski. The neighborhood where my grandma lived, in Elmwood Park, just a few blocks west of Chicago, is like all bungalows all the time.

jaymc, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:38 (sixteen years ago) link

Summary for Kenan: "The defendant spent far longer than was necessary to pass the Sambuca from his mouth to the girl's."

i have a HOUSE

river wolf, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:43 (sixteen years ago) link

Woah! Check out this living room!

KitCat, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:45 (sixteen years ago) link

You need to throw a party, wolf.

KitCat, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:46 (sixteen years ago) link
