I'm putting December on a b-day mix I'm sending home to my gf, and it totally sticks out like a sore thumb among the likes of Tom T. Hall and Red Sovine but I have decided this and it can not be un-decided.

a╓by's (╓abies), Friday, 16 October 2009 07:13 (fourteen years ago) link

That's a lie I may in fact un-decide and go with Boys Go To Jupiter.

a╓by's (╓abies), Friday, 16 October 2009 07:15 (fourteen years ago) link

This is an early sketch for an instrumental track (though it might not stay that way). I recorded it on my own, but might alter it a bit with the band. See if you can spot the sample (drums n horns)....

been working on this song, my first experiment with reason ... can't tell if it sounds cool or if it needs more stuff in the instrumental bits or if the mix is weird

sonderangerbot is there anyway I can d/l that w/o going through weird flash stuff? It doesn't wanna play nice with my browser or broadband provider or something or another, not sure what's up really.

(xpost)

That's a really great song! I think it would be perfect as an album closer.
Probably doesn't need more instrumental bits. The mix sounds OK, so I'm kind of nitpicking here:

- the drums could be panned out a bit, at the moment they're all concentrated on the left
- maybe have the kick drum on the right and the bass guitar on the left?
- the synth that comes in at 2:30 needs to be a bit louder.
- maybe increase the volume on the acoustic guitars during the final chorus to add a bit of interest?

As I said, nitpicking really.

I posted the first track from my forthcoming EP, to be released in January. It's an indie-pop song about insomnia, suburban isolation, and the boredom of hometowns. It's called The Ballad of Cherry Hill.

thanks, we were pretty dirty about the recording, all in the same room with mics in the middle for the most part. no close mic'ing except for the bass drum & sousaphone.

That's a nice strict tempo Cosmic. Kinda reminds me of that 16 Bitch Pileup vinyl noize thing.

My friend Clementine and I made this: Merry Xmas IMM!

"Head Fulla Hate"

I really like this, but there's too much reverb on the vocals. I was walking about the place a few days ago singing "fuck around fuck around" to myself like a loony.

12 inches of (snoball), Sunday, 27 December 2009 19:27 (fourteen years ago) link

I cannot resist using delay on vocals tbh

livinginthesunlightlovinginthemoonlighthavingawonderfultime (Curt1s Stephens), Sunday, 27 December 2009 19:35 (fourteen years ago) link

Gah Rob is like that too, he reverbs the feck out of everything. My vocals on one of his tracks sound like I fell down a well, and now I'm paranoid they're buried thus because I sing like shit.

millivanillimillenary (Trayce), Sunday, 27 December 2009 23:32 (fourteen years ago) link

My singing voice is probably the weakest part of my music. I've used and mis-used loads of tricks and techniques to make vocals less cringe-making to listen to: reverb, echo, double tracking, using funny voices, setting the vocal track volume low in the mix. But over the past year I've intentionally cut back on these and grit my teeth and gone "aaaargghgh" while mixing, because although it sounds terrible, after a few weeks when I listen to the song again, it's not as bad as I remember.

12 inches of (snoball), Sunday, 27 December 2009 23:48 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah its that old "hate the sound of yr own voice" thing innit? I've sung in things on and off for years and I cannot shake disliking the tone of my vocals even though I'm a reasonably ok (if not strong) singer.

millivanillimillenary (Trayce), Monday, 28 December 2009 00:38 (fourteen years ago) link

I released a new EP today. It's called Labyrinths. You can stream, download at your own price, or order the CD here:

It is totally great. Their FAQ is hilarious too. I loved this entry:

My band is already on MySpace, Virb, iMeem, Fuzz, ReverbNation, Fairtilizer, Pistachio Nut, Red Pistachio Nut, and Natural, All Natural White Pistachio Nut. Why should we bother with Bandcamp too?

Ruxak & Shaedo - Fag Break

Made this with a friend ages ago as part of a bigger track. It got accidentally opened and played at completel the wrong speed the other day and we preferred it like that, so here it is
