I'm putting December on a b-day mix I'm sending home to my gf, and it totally sticks out like a sore thumb among the likes of Tom T. Hall and Red Sovine but I have decided this and it can not be un-decided.

That's a really great song! I think it would be perfect as an album closer.
Probably doesn't need more instrumental bits. The mix sounds OK, so I'm kind of nitpicking here:

- the drums could be panned out a bit, at the moment they're all concentrated on the left
- maybe have the kick drum on the right and the bass guitar on the left?
- the synth that comes in at 2:30 needs to be a bit louder.
- maybe increase the volume on the acoustic guitars during the final chorus to add a bit of interest?

As I said, nitpicking really.

I really like this, but there's too much reverb on the vocals. I was walking about the place a few days ago singing "fuck around fuck around" to myself like a loony.

I cannot resist using delay on vocals tbh

Gah Rob is like that too, he reverbs the feck out of everything. My vocals on one of his tracks sound like I fell down a well, and now I'm paranoid they're buried thus because I sing like shit.

My singing voice is probably the weakest part of my music. I've used and mis-used loads of tricks and techniques to make vocals less cringe-making to listen to: reverb, echo, double tracking, using funny voices, setting the vocal track volume low in the mix. But over the past year I've intentionally cut back on these and grit my teeth and gone "aaaargghgh" while mixing, because although it sounds terrible, after a few weeks when I listen to the song again, it's not as bad as I remember.

Yeah its that old "hate the sound of yr own voice" thing innit? I've sung in things on and off for years and I cannot shake disliking the tone of my vocals even though I'm a reasonably ok (if not strong) singer.

Made this with a friend ages ago as part of a bigger track. It got accidentally opened and played at completel the wrong speed the other day and we preferred it like that, so here it is
