They've run out of good villains for this series - there's always Dr. Morbius

Depending on who plays him, a Punisher x-over could be interesting.

Felicia Day as Felicia Hardy

Thought the first one was great, the second was okay and the third was a hilarious mess:

The Lizard's an interesting villain. they get bonus points if they bring up how his son never ages.

is that animated gif processed in any way? because it is a lot more awesome than I remember that movie being.

they've been setting up the lizard for three movies already, for fucks sake make him the villain.

The first half of the first movie is arguably the best screen realisation of a superhero's origin story yet (other contender: Batman Begins).

hahaha Bruce Campbell as Kraven would be pretty great

Hmmm, I'm watching spidey3 right now because of free HD movie channels and direct tv; the action sequences are pretty entertaining with all the neato special effects and camera angles. When I first saw this movie I thought it was good for those reasons I just mentioned. Also the "emo factor" didn't bother me. Yes the plot is stupid (his uncle's killer is really _______!) but from a happy dumb action flick point of view I really can't complain. See Wolverine

Anyways, who is supposed to be the lizard? And wow to that Bruce Campbell picture - it's a perfect fit and frankly why not have him play the enemy? He played a fancy French dinner host in #3. It wouldn't be a far strech to cast him as a baddie.

first half of part 1 is classic. part 2 is maybe my favorite superhero movie. part 3... well, at least bruce campbell showed up again.

Nhex, Monday, 19 October 2009 03:57 (fourteen years ago) link

Part 2 is pretty darn good, especially the scene where he stops the train and the passengers realize spiderman is human.

Part 3 was absolutely abysmal, as bad as Superman Returns. I'm not sure why the studio is taking this shot considering how negatively people responded to the last one. This should be a franchise reload, not another go with an aging actor and a bored director.

Anyways, who is supposed to be the lizard?

His professor, the one who in 3 does some experiments on the Venom goo and yet seems weirdly unexcited to have discovered alien life.

so once we are identifying the exact movement that Peter has to grow to, I think the villain—and we're trying this right now; we're trying to choose a villain based on who would be the proper counter to that growth, so we really have dramatic conflict.

So the villain is gonna be Joe Quesada?

latebloomer, a 330m gross for a 250m production budget is bad, not good.

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 28 October 2009 08:24 (fourteen years ago) link

oh wow, nevermind, the worldwide gross was great.

Maybe the next one should be in chinese.

Not making this into Secret Wars is a foolish mistake.

Nate Carson, Wednesday, 28 October 2009 09:08 (fourteen years ago) link

Secret Wars must've already happened, because Spider-Man had the black suite in the previous movie.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 28 October 2009 09:11 (fourteen years ago) link

That is so sweet that you believe big movie studios care about franchise continuity.

Anne Hathaway as Black Cat rumors afoot.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 19 November 2009 12:55 (fourteen years ago) link

For some reason I've never thought about this before, but Black Cat is a total Catwoman copy, isn't she? Not just the name and the costume, but also her profession and her relationship with Peter... I guess it's kinda obvious, but it hadn't crossed my mind before, maybe because back when I was reading Spider-Man and Black Cat was a regular character in it, I didn't know much about DC.

Tuomas, Thursday, 19 November 2009 13:00 (fourteen years ago) link

the final franco-maguire team-up was a bit cheese at the end but i loved spider-man 3. peter parker's dark side has jazz hands, god for fucking bid.

The third movie was a pile of shit and I'm still pissed off that I paid real money to see it in IMAX. Did not need to see emo Peter Parker in fucking IMAX. So bad. I hope they don't cast Anne Hathaway, because then I will want to see this one too.

The only thing that Spiderman 3 really failed at was shoehorning in two villains. It should have either done the Venom story or the Sandman story and not tried to do them both, as Venom felt very much tacked onto the side with chewing gum.

i agree!

i actually loved that dancing scene.

fel (latebloomer), Thursday, 19 November 2009 22:20 (fourteen years ago) link

the weird thing is, i think the venom was the villain that got shoehorned-in against Raimi's wishes, yet i liked that subplot and character so much more than the Sandman "I killed your uncle all along it was me!" unnecessary retcon bs

what also killed me was how the Peter/MJ relationship that I liked so much in the first two just went so sour and was dreadful to watch. just didn't feel like the actors were really trying any more, although the script didn't help (too much awful dancing all around)

Nhex, Thursday, 19 November 2009 22:47 (fourteen years ago) link

needed more dancing imo

Well yeah Mysterio would've been incredible for camp. And i still hold out hope for the Vulture as old chickenhawk with his eye on Peter.

http://www.movieline.com/2009/12/exclusive-spider-man-4-circling-john-malkovich-anne-hathaway.php?page=all

"No matter the superhero franchise, when it comes time to make a sequel, people mainly want to know one thing: Which villains will be in it? Currently, fans are trying to crack the mystery of Spider-Man 4’s bad guys; rumors and speculation had it that every actress in Hollywood was trying out for the sexy villainess Black Cat, or that Dylan Baker’s Curt Connors would finally get to transform into the Lizard in this installment. Now, though, Movieline has confirmed with sources close to the film that Raimi’s sequel is circling John Malkovich and Anne Hathaway to play Spider-Man’s adversaries, and neither evildoer is quite what you might have expected.

malkovulture.jpgIf negotiations proceed according to plan, Malkovich will be playing Spider-Man’s nemesis the Vulture, who packs a punch despite his advanced age. The Vulture is able to fly through the air and brandish his sharp wings to attack Spider-Man.

As for Hathaway, that’s where things get tricky.

The 27-year-old actress is currently the top choice for Felicia Hardy, who’d been long-rumored as one of the new characters in this installment. (Other names bandied about for the role included Julia Stiles, Rachel McAdams, and Romola Garai.) However, unlike in the comic books, this Felicia Hardy doesn’t transform into the Black Cat. Instead, Raimi’s Felicia will become a brand-new superpowered figure called the Vulturess.

What does this mean for poor Dylan Baker, who’s patiently played Curt Connors in the last two installments? As much as it would seem that the series is setting up his eventual transformation into supervillain the Lizard, we hear that the suits simply can’t bring themselves to sign off on such an odd-looking enemy — instead, they’d rather hew closer to villains with a human face. Perhaps, then, it’s the best-case scenario for Baker: He gets to remain the subject of fanboy interest, but he doesn’t have to cede his role to a motion-captured reptile in a lab coat.

Developing…"
