I'd been feeling meh for a few days, then nosedived straight into flu yesterday - headache, racking cough, runny nose, fever. Spent all of today in bed and am finally feeling like I'll live, though the coughing is awful. Goddamn flu, get away from me.

XMRV quite possibly best syndrome name ever. Also first syndrome name to sound like a motorcycle. BRAWWWWWWWMMMMMMM.

Ha. I thought it sounded like something Slim Pickens would ride in Dr. Strangelove.

I have influenza b. :(. I too was prescribed Tamiflu, and my fever has lessened, though not gone away. though from waht I understand it only slows replication, as opposed to a antibiotic which has quicker success cuz it's killing the bacterial infection.

I haven't had a flu shot in years (dumb, I know), but I'm 30 now, and the last time I had the flu, I...

A. was writing book reports
B. rode a bicycle as transportation
C. Still called my mother "mommy".

stomach hurts from the mucus-y coughing.

I no longer remember what it's like to not have the flu. Is it better there, on the other side?

not flu but i've had cold and massive sore throat pretty much constantly since xmas

I got about ten minutes of sleep last night due to constant coughing, wahey. Now that I'm 'awake' it's subsided, of course.

I would also like to marvel at the productive capabilities of my nasal cavity over this past week.

Antoine Bugleboy (Merdeyeux), Wednesday, 23 March 2011 14:20 (thirteen years ago) link

Me too Ste; I've been completely sick non-stop for months. went to the doctor last week and he gave me antibiotics which did nothing (at this point now I have a sinus infection and infections in both ears which is causing me to loose hearing). maybe it is the flu, I don't know; it has been going around, but I did get a flu shot so probably it's just some awful cold virus.

akm, Wednesday, 23 March 2011 14:25 (thirteen years ago) link

ive had two sinus infections (within two months), the stomach flu and now strep. Thats what happens when you kid catches everything from daycare.

Fuck.... so much hurty. Head, limbs, jabby pains, hot and cold, 38-39C fever, rattly cough. So much for my "I never get the flu". I feel like a corpse thats been kicked in the head and groin.

I think I may be just starting to get the flu - woke up this morning feeling like the grease in all of my joints turned to glue overnight and now my throat and head hurts as well :-/

StanM, Saturday, 24 September 2011 07:54 (twelve years ago) link

Urrrgh. By last night I thought I was recovering. Seems that was deceptive due to the mask of paracetamol and rest... A sleepless night with the drugs worn off and I still feel like a truck ran me down dammit.

Silent Hedgehogs (Trayce), Sunday, 25 September 2011 19:56 (twelve years ago) link

Mine is on the move as well: belly now. Somewhat atypical for me: I'm even starting to think about staying home from work & going to the doctor if this isn't over in about 7 hours.

Get better, Trayce! I seem to be taking over from you :-(

StanM, Sunday, 25 September 2011 20:05 (twelve years ago) link

How the f can I have to go to the toilet every 10 minutes if I've barely eaten half a rice biscuit all day? You suck, flu.

Man, is it flu season already? My body sure seems to think so. Out of nowhere last night, I suddenly started feeling like I had been kicked down a flight of stairs. Guh. At least I've managed to avoid this since getting horrendously swine flu stricken in '09.

This Whole Fridge Is Full Of (Old Lunch), Monday, 10 September 2012 18:39 (eleven years ago) link

I'm not sure if I have the flu or an extended hangover. I've been burning up since last night, sweating buckets all night, called in sick to work, but I don't have much more symptoms other than a bit of a sniffle. I don't really ever get the flu, but I did go to a work party (free bar), someone's leaving drinks and a gig over 3 consecutive nights and drank quite a lot every night. My kidneys hurt a bit. I only had 2 drinks yesterday afternoon at a street party, so if it's a hangover it's a long one.

Day 5. At least I think it is because I'm struggling to remember what day it is.

So far I...

1. Threw up so hard I felt like I was going to turn myself inside out
2. Stared at romanesco broccoli for so long I think I now have Stendhal Syndrome
3. Purchased an effects pedal. At least I have a receipt for one in my email
4. Made some kick ass chicken soup
5. Played a lot of Diablo 3 (the mindless killkillkill is perfect for alleviating flu-enhanced irritation)

Also going through caffeine withdrawal. Joy.

james franco tur(oll)ing test (Hurting 2), Saturday, 15 March 2014 01:23 (ten years ago) link

Felt fine yesterday, woke up today weak with full body ache and alternating chills and fever. Apparently I didn't make a lot of sense today, but I slept through most of it. Fever broke around 4:30 with the usual (for me) gray-out and vomiting -- apparently my pop-up timer goes off at exactly 100 degrees. Felt better immediately, except for aches. Back to feeling a bit warm, but much better overall.

Funny thing is, this is the first year I've had a flu shot.

I didnt do any of those things and got another/different dose of idk what virus is going around.

dreamt that I shook herself awake to ask her if we could get a pet dinosaur and she thumped me in the eye. when I woke I couldnt remember if it had happened or not so I kinda sulked around her for a bit (nb it hadn't she wasn't even in the room this was at 6pm or something) and when she asked what was wrong with me I pointed at my eye and shouted IM SICK

I then spent twenty minutes trying to convince her that we should get a pet dinosaur.

flu fucks me up idk

Flu shot apparently very ineffective this year, though I guess any flu shot is better than no flu shot, in that it reduces symptoms.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 4 January 2018 15:30 (six years ago) link

We all got the flu shot at work, and my one co-worker who missed out because he was on vacation at the time is now using up all his sick days in the first week of 2018 because...he has the flu. Brutal. (Though it sounds like LL has it significantly worse.)

Simon H., Thursday, 4 January 2018 15:32 (six years ago) link

I know more than one person that proudly skipped the shot every year and then one year got the actual flu, then realized all those times they thought they might have had the flu in the past they just had a cold and the real flu will knock you on your ass.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 4 January 2018 15:36 (six years ago) link

deepest sympathy for LL, and all the flu sufferers of 2017-2018, and period sufferers of all times and places

I spent the week after my fever broke in a recliner at my Dad's house, dead to the world. one thing I will say is that total exhaustion due to viral invasions is pleasant in that it totally occludes anxiety and boredom... a slow lumbering elegance that is the complete opposite of my normal fretting and skittering around

erry red flag (f. hazel), Thursday, 4 January 2018 17:19 (six years ago) link

i don't know what i have, but i stayed home yesterday; my coughs sounded like gagging, and my legs and back were so sore i took a dose of oxycodone from 2013.
