I look forward to this show more than The Office now. I can't get enough of Abed, he's like the living embodiment of TV Tropes.

The show is getting better now that the characters are more fleshed out.

im enjoying the show but its just a lil too rote - u can feel the writers paying the storyline and character bios etc too much respect - they need to let dark comedy delight guide them
― ice cr?m, Sunday, 11 October 2009 16:46 (fourteen years ago) link
it has potential def but they need to let peoples bad intentions win occasionally - the lesson learning however breezy makes things too predictably neat
― ice cr?m, Sunday, 11 October 2009 16:50 (fourteen years ago) link
yeah they need to do more w/ aped and troy too imo
― fleetwood (max), Sunday, 11 October 2009 16:54 (fourteen years ago) link
when they let troy be funny hes really funny but they give him so few lines
John Oliver's line to the chunky bespectacled dude - "Go shoot John Lennon, you loser!" kept cracking me to an irrational degree.

Really into the super-manic pace. Feel like half the jokes get, like, a bonus beat that sends them over the top.

Also the Dean is kind of the reincarnation of Tobias Funke, but I'm not complaining.

Really dig the fact that they're spending these early episodes pairing everybody up in different combinations, good character development. Though Britta still needs a chance to be funny and be more than just a stern foil to teach the main character lessons.

okay, those were basically the two funny moments...
i can see this show getting cancelled.
― scott seward, Friday, 23 October 2009 03:02 (fourteen years ago) link
I can see that, but I can also see this show hanging around for a while and doing well, which is often hard to visualize after just a handful of episodes.
― some dude, Friday, 23 October 2009 03:04 (fourteen years ago) link
i think it could be really good if it would just settle down and find its rhythm.
but yeah, probably will be cancelled, unless NBC decide they've got nothing better (not unlikely!).
hope it doesn't. it can be pretty funny, i like the cast, and yeah britta's kinda hot.

they got picked up for the second half of the season by NBC.
I liked this episode quite a bit.

this show is great when it actually has jokes and pretty bad when it goes into heartwarming mode (esp. when dude showed his home movie about his relationship with his dad wtf). i wish they would abandon the relationships and character development and just be funny.

I read an interview with the creator where he claimed he wasn't really having a go at community college, a claim somewhat undercut by "We used to be the Greendale Grizzlies, but, you know, some of these students have been called 'animals' their whole lives."
Abed meta-commentary went to a whole new level last night, too!

i liked this episode a lot actually - the jeff/annie thing worked better than i would've expected, and I don't think it veered too far into cuteness like the abed documentary one. also it was worth watching just for a few bits (the racism bit above, troy's horrible 2004-era political fight songs). more donald glover!

Although it probably worked out better for Donald Glover, because SNL has been pretty unwatchable lately.

SNL would be more watchable if they brought in more new blood instead of just hanging onto the same people forever and arbitrarily sloughing off a couple of them each season, so it's a vicious circle

i really wanna like this show cuz i love mchale but this seems super contrived to me. like, the office is absurdist but it's still pretty grounded in believability whereas the characters in community and the premises of the episodes kind of seem to only be able to exist in minds of the writers. granted i've never been to community college so maybe i'm wrong but this is kinda boring imo.
