nah, was originally announced as band, but in the end he was just DJing :(

No wonder Busy P and Erol and Joakim have been hanging out so much on this tour. They're probably the only men in that scene in whose company the other one never has to worry about feeling like a shortarse.

what a disaster for Tiga

Dandy Don Draper (sic), Tuesday, 6 October 2009 14:59 (fourteen years ago) link

Tiga comes up to, like, Erol's kneecap. I was actually quite shocked when I found out that Busy P is even *taller* than Erol. I thought Erol was the tallest guy in teh world except for, like, that 10 foot dude in China and that 11 foot Turkish dude who just came over here and posed next to Tower Bridge for laughs.

That's a shame you didn't get the full band but I suppose it's hard enough to fit that lot on the plane there was no room for anyone else.

OK, I take it back, Here's one where you can actually hear Alkan - he's not that bad!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsYj6vRzn4Q

However, note how Tiga runs away when he realises he's sandwiched between Busy P and Erol - who STILL manages to be TALLER than him, even sitting down and slouching.

I'm so easily amused.

I always thought Aeroplane had gotten Au Revoir Simeone to sing on their Paris remix.

The interview says they're actually on the original Friendly Fires version all along.

plazzTT, Thursday, 8 October 2009 14:32 (fourteen years ago) link

OMG THIS LOOKS LIKE EVIDENCE THAT JOAKIM MIGHT BE EVEN TALLER THAN "TALLEST MAN IN POP" PEDRO!

OK, never mind I've totally derailed this thread with fangurling about the Australian tour. I do apologise.

ha ha, sorry plazzTT didn't mean to x-post with you, but you should be used to this from me.

still seems kind of bad

Ømår Littel (Jordan), Thursday, 8 October 2009 14:38 (fourteen years ago) link

What is?

That Aeroplane remix of Paris? Coz I'll punch anyone that disses that!

or comparing the relative heights and smashabilities of the DJs on the Parklife tour? Don't be silly. I respect them all for their remixes. Their smashability and L O O O N N G G ness is only the icing on the objectification cake.

ha ha, Busy P says Joakim is tallest by far. I'm glad we have an official answer. :-D

yeah i spotted that too! does anyone know if ARS are on the original 'paris' or if they rerecorded it? can barely hear any female vocal on the original track

NI, Thursday, 8 October 2009 19:38 (fourteen years ago) link

Where do you think "Paris" will be on RA's Top 30 Remixes of 2009?

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Thursday, 8 October 2009 22:13 (fourteen years ago) link

except it's from 2008, I'm pretty sure

hood acumen (The Reverend), Thursday, 8 October 2009 22:15 (fourteen years ago) link

Aeroplane's TOP REMIX of 2009 was Kilometer, anyway.

...and the wizard blew his horn (Masonic Boom), Friday, 9 October 2009 10:09 (fourteen years ago) link

They only did two remixes, it's not exactly a crowded field.

Matt DC, Friday, 9 October 2009 10:17 (fourteen years ago) link

Is that all? It seems like they did a lot more.

Anyway, I'm in love with that song that everyone is playing along with:

beats in space mix is def. my favourite mix of theirs

cozwn (webinar), Monday, 12 October 2009 17:09 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah its not as mixed as their proper sets but the tuuuunes! are these all quite obscure italo/ 80s disco tracks or are these pretty well known if you're into italo?

piscesx, Monday, 12 October 2009 21:02 (fourteen years ago) link

I'd say quite a few of them are well-known classics, but then a couple are ones that I stuck on a mix last week, thinking they were less-played (the Mike Mareen and the Warlords). Guess I was wrong!

I *haven't* heard anyone else play "The Ultimate Warlord" out much though, which I find surprising since it's such a bonkers track. I might just not be hearing enough mixes lately though.

lou reed scott walker monks niagra (chinavision!), Monday, 12 October 2009 21:09 (fourteen years ago) link

is there a REALLY good italo compilation? or a box set or something? i must get into the whole thing one of these days.

piscesx, Monday, 12 October 2009 21:19 (fourteen years ago) link

^ this one is pretty great, also check out i-f's 'mixed up in the hague' mix for a nice primer.

stuff like lime and dharma is on the more well-known end of italo but there's some pretty obscure stuff in there too. the BIS mix is good but they've had loads of great mixes in the last few years. i may be alone with this but i am a huge fan of nearly all of the monthly chart mixes from this year- turned me on to some great, current, populist dance tracks that i probably would have written off otherwise (classixx remixes, leo zero remix of florence and the machine, grum, lindstrom remix of "jetstream", lots more)

psychgawsple, Monday, 12 October 2009 21:38 (fourteen years ago) link

Anyone here who likes old Aeroplane DJ mixes better than the newer ones? If you hear stuff like their RA Podcast and Flying Mix, it sounds noticably different than the recent ones. They seem to lost their touch a bit. By the way, is there any live recordings of Aeroplane DJ set? I'd like to hear how they are live.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Monday, 12 October 2009 21:53 (fourteen years ago) link

I think the old ones are better too, but they're actual proper mixes whereas the more recent ones are just a load of new records they like spliced together in half an hour when they get bored of doing the album.

Matt DC, Monday, 12 October 2009 22:46 (fourteen years ago) link

I prefer the lushness (typical me) of the early mixes too though.

Tim F, Monday, 12 October 2009 23:41 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah, LUSH. that's the word.

Is there any difference between Lindstrøm & Christabelle - "Baby Can't Stop (Aeroplane Remix)" and Lindstrøm & Solale - "Baby Can't Stop (Aeroplane Remix)" ?

Robbie Williams- 'Bodies' (Aeroplane Remix)

Listen to it on last night's Pete Tong show

Song starts at 14 mins...

i;m indifferent about that remix..

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Saturday, 17 October 2009 12:52 (fourteen years ago) link

He only plays about 3 minutes of it though - sound likes it starts to get interesting as he talks over the end and I'd be surprised if it's not 6 or 7 minutes long at least

groovypanda, Saturday, 17 October 2009 12:57 (fourteen years ago) link

sorry Aeroplane, but for me nothing can survive the involvement of Robbie Williams.

nooooooo... not another one. I'm not ready. I have too much listening to catch up on. I've still got 4 CDs, about 10 spotify playlists and a Richard Norris podcast to get through!

You know, I always used to slag off people who were too "lazy" to do their own searching for music, and relied on DJs to do it for them, but now, swimming in the nu-media soup, I'm starting to understand.

It's weird. Back when I was a music journo, my problem was, again and again too much SHITE music. Now I dictate mine own listening choices, there's too much GOOD music.

Strawberry Letter 22 (Masonic Boom), Wednesday, 21 October 2009 09:31 (fourteen years ago) link

Full version of the Robbie Williams remix here

I'd be nice to hear a dub mix of this one

groovypanda, Friday, 23 October 2009 13:20 (fourteen years ago) link

I really love it, vocals and all.

But then again, I have nothing against Robbie Williams, unlike most of the people that seem to be rubbishing his vocals.

Strawberry Letter 22 (Masonic Boom), Friday, 23 October 2009 13:21 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah i'm kind of allergic to robbie williams' presence. you can always sense it bobbing up and down with a wacky grin on its face. shudder.

Back when I was a music journo, my problem was, again and again too much SHITE music. Now I dictate mine own listening choices, there's too much GOOD music.

so many music journos i know complain about all the music they hear being shite...i'm like, how about just ignoring 90% of what PRs send you and exploring for yourself?

lex pretend, Friday, 23 October 2009 13:33 (fourteen years ago) link

It took me several years and at least two moves before I dodged all the PRs lists. (Mostly they've got the point now that Plan B no longer exists.)

Problem is, so often it's this delicate game of "scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" - that in order to get access to artists you like, and get favours from them, you have to return the favour of listening to crap they send you.

But this has nothing to do with Aeroplane or Robbie Williams.

I'm just really kinda disgusted by all the Erolheads who are suddenly going "UGH, Aeroplane SOLD OUT coz they remixed Robbie Williams." That makes me wanna slap people.

Strawberry Letter 22 (Masonic Boom), Friday, 23 October 2009 13:37 (fourteen years ago) link

RW remix sucks.

Haven't listened to this new mix yet, could that "unknown" track be something off their album?

plazzTT, Saturday, 24 October 2009 03:08 (fourteen years ago) link

I like the RW remix and don't adore the Doves ones

okamadablobisney (jamescobo), Saturday, 24 October 2009 04:34 (fourteen years ago) link

I like the RW a heck of a lot better than that kind of sleepwalking Au Revoir Simone remix they did recently.

Oh! I didn't even think that was what the "unknown" track might have been. I got so lost in there that I lost the ability to figure out which track was which by about halfway through.

Strawberry Letter 22 (Masonic Boom), Saturday, 24 October 2009 08:42 (fourteen years ago) link

I like the RW a heck of a lot better than that kind of sleepwalking Au Revoir Simone remix they did recently.

^cosign! it's kinda fun! the au revoir simone one is the only thing they've ever touched that i would actually say is truly awful

psychgawsple, Saturday, 24 October 2009 09:30 (fourteen years ago) link

Hey, that ARS track is not awful or anything. It's just uninspired.

The Robbie one has that feeling of "hey, we can just have fun with this"

Strawberry Letter 22 (Masonic Boom), Saturday, 24 October 2009 09:38 (fourteen years ago) link

So, did they just do that? It's just that his version of "Lovelight" was on "RudeBox", and that was ages ago...

(I got a copy cheap, and think there's nothing wrong with it!)

Mark G, Saturday, 24 October 2009 09:54 (fourteen years ago) link

That Au Revoir Simone remix is good for the italo freakout part alone.
