Favre throws 3 TDs in Vikings win over Packers
By DAVE CAMPBELL (AP) – 14 minutes ago
MINNEAPOLIS — Brett Favre proved to the Green Bay Packers he has plenty of fire left inside, and in his right arm. Favre's first game against his former team was all fun for the Minnesota Vikings and all frustration for the Packers, as the graying quarterback connected for three touchdown passes and 271 yards in a 30-23 victory on Monday night.
Favre went 24 for 31, without a turnover. He did an awkward body bump with kicker Ryan Longwell, also a former Packer, and stayed poised in the pocket all night.
"Lot of fun. It was a big win for us," Favre said. "We did what we had to do."

Merril Hoge has figured out why Brett is having so much fun out there:
We all saw Brett’s magic against the 49ers and after watching it on tape i’m convinced he is the most magical player to ever play in the NFL.

guys, i don't want to scare you but in the week leading up to the game, brett favre DID NOT HAVE THAT MUCH FUN:
Rosenfels said the normally fun-loving Favre was pensive and withdrawn most of the week leading up to the game against the team he set every quarterback record for. "Not many jokes made this week,'' Rosenfels said. "He was studying a lot this week, wanting to make sure he had every read right. You know, before last week's game, I told him, 'You don't have to win it on your own. Punting's okay.'"

Merril Hoge is right.
I'm sure I'm not the only viewer in America who, after Farve completed his first touchdown last night, sat up a little straighter on the couch and said, "Hey, I think Brett just winked at me." And his smile. By the end, when he clearly knew she was doing well, it was so sparkling it was almost mesmerizing. It sent little starbursts through the screen and ricocheting around the living rooms of America. This is a quality that can't be learned; it's either something you have or you don't, and man, Brett Farve has it.

from don banks' snap judgments:
• It had to be fun for the old-guy quarterbacks like Favre and Brees to outduel the younger generation in Eli Manning and Joe Flacco in Sunday's headline games. Flacco darn near brought the Ravens all the way back in the Metrodome, throwing for 385 yards and a pair of scores, but Favre has pretty much been in a zone of his own since winning that Week 3 thriller at home against San Francisco.Read more: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/don_banks/10/18/snap.judgments/#ixzz0UPDLk1ZvGet a free NFL Team Jacket and Tee with SI Subscription

My die-hard Packer fan wife instinctively gasped in fear when Favre got sacked once yesterday, then paused, got mad at herself, and yelled "fuck that guy" at the TV.

Meh. I'm not anti-Farve. I'm pro-Green Bay.
I remember a time when magazines like Sports Illustrated ran stories predicting that Green Bay is such an uninviting place that it would never again build a powerful team. I like how the Packers proved those stories wrong: They won the Super Bowl, stayed good for a while, and now they're good again! Anyway, I hope they win this week, but I won't be sad if the Vikings win.
