Well, both tonight and Monday are outside my usual comfort zone, but tonight is at least a) Friday, so more people will be drinking and having a laugh (including me) and b) spending is capped at $110 (though I will no doubt bust out early, then lost another $200 in subsequent cash games).

Mark C, Friday, 3 August 2007 16:11 (sixteen years ago) link

oh god that's no attitude. youve gotta have confidence dude!

here's what you do: when yr at home before the tournament, take a nice warm shower, then stand naked before a full length mirror repeating "rickey's the best" for like 10 minutes.

jhøshea, Friday, 3 August 2007 17:00 (sixteen years ago) link

Ken and I both made the money! I picked up $200 for 4th and that little fucker only won AGAIN to the tune of $1200.

Mark C, Saturday, 4 August 2007 08:15 (sixteen years ago) link

AWESOME DUDEZ I TOLD U THE NAKED MIRROR AFFIRMATIONS WOULD WORK !!!

jhøshea, Saturday, 4 August 2007 08:19 (sixteen years ago) link

also ken c is clearly good at poker so why is he losing online at $5s?

jhøshea, Saturday, 4 August 2007 08:20 (sixteen years ago) link

OMG I can't believe I won again fucking hell.

haha I totally lucked on the river though on the hand that knocked out Mark C!

I really don't know what the difference is, but I seem to do be doing a lot better at real life games than online.. maybe it just feels more natural to hold the chips and have a physical sense of what's going on. or maybe i have a really imposing demeanor that only shines through in person!

ken c, Saturday, 4 August 2007 09:29 (sixteen years ago) link

Ken I think you had something like 14 outs on that river, so it was hardly a suckout. It's my fault anyway for pushing with 74s.

Mark C, Saturday, 4 August 2007 09:46 (sixteen years ago) link

we're doing it again, tonight!

i think i might retire from poker if i win again.

Mark C, Tuesday, 7 August 2007 09:20 (sixteen years ago) link

I didn't manage the hat trick :((

BUT I CAME THIRD AND TOOK HOME £580! Woo hoo!

I want to say this was due to my obvious poker talent, but fuck, I didn't deserve to get anything last night.

i still remember the hand i called someone's all in with my K 10 offsuit vs someone's A 10.

I caught 4 spades and knocked that guy out. Something inside me died with shame when i collected the chips.

ken c, Tuesday, 7 August 2007 09:48 (sixteen years ago) link

so yeah, off the back of these wins i'm using the money for a trip to las vegas...

is there good poker fun to be had? if so where? also.. recommendation for good hotels? it looks like tropicana at the moment (the best sounding £30 a nighter on the strip)

ken c, Thursday, 9 August 2007 16:59 (sixteen years ago) link

That's rad, Ken! I'd advise you join flopturnriver.com and search their archives/ask people to recommend the best places to play. Figure out what you'd like to play, of course, tourneys or cash etc., and what other entertainments you want to enjoy.

Btw there is a super-rad arcade in Vegas somewhere on/close to the strip - me and Sgs and my bro hung out there for like 4 hours. It helped that the DDR machine had ELEVEN free goes when I used it :)

I'm reading Harrington on Hold 'em volumes 1 and 2. HOMEWORK.

Dom Passantino, Thursday, 9 August 2007 18:03 (sixteen years ago) link

Nice - I still need to get Vol. 2, but my game improved 58383% (rough estimate) after reading Vol. 1. Given how shitty I've been, I shd reread.

David R., Friday, 10 August 2007 02:14 (sixteen years ago) link

i should read a book on poker one of these days

kekekeke our site just left beta. i am freaking the eff out.

Will M., Wednesday, 22 August 2007 16:50 (sixteen years ago) link

ok seriously fuck. this is getting ridiculous. i went again and won again (split money 1st and 2nd). This is the 5th time i played real life poker and the 5th time in profit, and whenever i am tempted to think "wow, fuck you must be fucking talented at this" i look back and remember how progressively i get flukier and flukier, like kasper schmeichel's clean sheet record.

ken c, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 00:22 (sixteen years ago) link

I, on the other hand, lost £100 playing a £0.50/£1 no limit cash game and didn't even get to the casino in time to buy into the tournament Ken won above. I might not be a better player than Ken, but I'm not £3,000 worse in 5 evenings!

Mark C, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 00:31 (sixteen years ago) link

Ken, that 3rd place at the last Century do is really spoiling your otherwise flawless run of victories.

Mark C, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 00:31 (sixteen years ago) link

I know - although two of the "victories" were splitting the money between the top 2/3 places (i was 'technically second' last night because when we decided to split they dealt a free hand to each of us to determine the "winner" so i didn't get my picture taken :( even though i was leading in chips a little!)

I'm really glad to have been to this casino warm-up trip, God, it took some getting used to - there were so many more joyless and angry people compared to c3n7ury. I wonder if it's what all casino games are like.

ken c, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 09:08 (sixteen years ago) link

The cash game was okay - not friendly as such, but the occasional banterful comment and no-one got angry or rude.

Mark C, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 09:28 (sixteen years ago) link

also: mark you were unlucky last night to not win though (got sucked out of a big hand?)

ken c, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 10:26 (sixteen years ago) link

Well, my last pot of about £150 I was about 70/30 to win or something, but not hugely unlucky, not like the poor guy to my right earlier. He had A3, opponent had AJ, and he re-raised all in on a A3x flop. Turn 3...... river A, the one card that prevented him taking it all down.

I haven't been tot he casino since back in the day when i had.... money. But did play eight hours of poker for pints on Sunday. Won five out of the first six games and therefore have very little recollection of what happened after that. Job-----> Money---------> Poker -------> More/Less Money

Oops, sorry Ken!

As you can see, Ken and I met Doyle Brunson, his son and fellow pro Todd, and the delightful Hoyt Corkins at our regular rebuy do on Monday. Neither of us cashed this time (ken's FIRST time outside the top 3 since I've been playing with him), though I did win a bounty of £70 for busting Mr Corkins which completely made my night (as did his graciousness after busting out).

To complete the set, here's Todd, left, and Hoyt, right:

two weeks pass...

Update time - how's everyone doing? Any notable events? I am back playing ring this month (only $50NL 6max for the most part, though I appear to pwn pot limit so I might try a bit more of that) and am up about 3 buyins.

A mate of mine won $70k on Party's bad beat jackpot thing - his king high straight flush beat his opponent's jack high straight flush. His opponent probably wasn't too unhappy, though, as he took home $140,000.

Anyway, most importantly - KEN! How did Vegas go? Tell us yr gambling exploits!

You never linked it here, Ken!

Just a stab in the dark - any ILXors around right now who want to play a fun game, probably just a $5 heads up tourney or something? I'm likely to be chillin for the next couple of hours, so hit me up gmail style (b0y1nc0rdur0y at the yahoo com designation, numbers changed to letters) if you're interested.

i've been back on partypoker after taking about a month off pokering

i think it's done me good - feel much more composed. i have been winning several SNGS now, was in the money more than i was out of it, and those that i was out i've bubbled each time (something i need to work on i think - i still don't have enough patient to slug it out when it gets to the final 4/3 players). and actually feel like i'm enjoying it again.

ken c, Thursday, 25 October 2007 19:10 (sixteen years ago) link

Just had an 11-buyin downswing - made $40 last night but I'm waiting until I've had a few more winning sessions before I can say the downswing's over. Here's the graph:

i had an account on pokerroom from many years ago. i put like $100 in it, grinded up to $300, then got brash and fell to ~$150. i haven't played in 2 years or so, but left the money there in case i ever wanted to play again. i tried to pull the money out last night, but because of the new legal climate US people can't bet real money there anymore, and the only way to make a withdrawal is to use click2pay, a new gambling PayPal clone which doesn't accept US customers.

so how do i yank the money out? any suggestions?

sanskrit, Sunday, 28 October 2007 12:30 (sixteen years ago) link

They appear to be rejigging their check options so I'd be surprised if once that's all sorted you couldn't get the cash out via a check.
