Thursday is a pretty great night for TV...Office, Community, 30 Rock (starts in October?), Sunny, Project Runway; it's already taking me a few days to catch up.

p&r has been pretty great so far this season, really strong supporting cast

fleetwood (max), Saturday, 3 October 2009 16:51 (fourteen years ago) link

the best parts of this show thus far have been the scenes with aped and troy during the credits

fleetwood (max), Saturday, 3 October 2009 16:51 (fourteen years ago) link

p&r has been dece. aziz ansari and aubrey plaza and the dude with the tache especially.

rashida jones is attractive but maybe they should make her funny in some way?

not really feelin community so much.

history mayne, Saturday, 3 October 2009 16:53 (fourteen years ago) link

I don't know what show you haters are watching. Community has been tops so far. Funnier than The Office this season, at the very least.

Oh, and for those who even know what I'm talking about, the Community creator was apparently also responsible for Heat Vision And Jack.

wait what ben stiller has returned to tv?

history mayne, Saturday, 3 October 2009 16:54 (fourteen years ago) link

rashida jones ex bf is great in p&r too

fleetwood (max), Saturday, 3 October 2009 17:42 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah it's like a bizarro the office where roy is the funniest character on the show instead of just being this grunty clueless guy

iatee, Saturday, 3 October 2009 18:12 (fourteen years ago) link

I don't know what show you haters are watching.

its this show called Community.

( ´_ゝ˙) (Dr. Phil), Sunday, 4 October 2009 00:09 (fourteen years ago) link

Maybe it'll get better, but I haven't enjoyed the first few episodes much.

Funnier than The Office this season, at the very least.

Yes, but at this point that's not saying much. It does seem like it is getting funnier as it goes along though.

The ever dapper nicolars (Nicole), Sunday, 4 October 2009 01:32 (fourteen years ago) link

I'm curious: what's not to like? Like, specifically?

I also wonder if I like this more because I'm a Soup fan. But pretty much everyone in the show is good (including Chevy, who I often think is a humorless turd), the writing is funny. I can see this developing into something really good (the next 30 Rock?) if the premise is something they can work with and expand on.

Also, it's worth noting how solid it is straight out of the gate. I can't say that about most of my favorite sitcoms.

I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Sunday, 4 October 2009 01:33 (fourteen years ago) link

I LOVE LOVE LOVE The Soup.

But I don't yet LOVE or even like Community that much yet, though it has some moments.

But I also think the first few episodes of every sitcom are awkward and usually terrible.

Except for Arrested Development.

dan selzer, Sunday, 4 October 2009 04:29 (fourteen years ago) link

Watched the first few eps of this tonight. I'm sold.

kingfish, Sunday, 4 October 2009 10:41 (fourteen years ago) link

This show got so brilliantly funny so fast I fear for its future. Tonight's ep FTW.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 9 October 2009 00:20 (fourteen years ago) link

I am looking forward to watching my "legal download" of the most recent episode.

A few years ago, I prematurely called 30 Rock the logical successor of Arrested Development, and I haven't been particularly disappointed on that front. So:

PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT SOLD YET! I BELIEVE THAT COMMUNITY IS THE LOGICAL SUCCESSOR OF 30 ROCK. SET YOUR VCRs.

I nearly choked from laughing when Troy was crawling out of the waiting/testing room like a paralyzed dog.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 9 October 2009 12:18 (fourteen years ago) link

I look forward to this show more than The Office now. I can't get enough of Abed, he's like the living embodiment of TV Tropes.

The show is getting better now that the characters are more fleshed out.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Friday, 9 October 2009 23:28 (fourteen years ago) link

im enjoying the show but its just a lil too rote - u can feel the writers paying the storyline and character bios etc too much respect - they need to let dark comedy delight guide them

ice cr?m, Sunday, 11 October 2009 16:46 (fourteen years ago) link

it has potential def but they need to let peoples bad intentions win occasionally - the lesson learning however breezy makes things too predictably neat

ice cr?m, Sunday, 11 October 2009 16:50 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah they need to do more w/ aped and troy too imo

fleetwood (max), Sunday, 11 October 2009 16:54 (fourteen years ago) link

when they let troy be funny hes really funny but they give him so few lines

fleetwood (max), Sunday, 11 October 2009 16:54 (fourteen years ago) link

John Oliver's line to the chunky bespectacled dude - "Go shoot John Lennon, you loser!" kept cracking me to an irrational degree.

Really into the super-manic pace. Feel like half the jokes get, like, a bonus beat that sends them over the top.

"It's probably Arabic."

Also the Dean is kind of the reincarnation of Tobias Funke, but I'm not complaining.

I totally didn't get what was going on there, haha.

Really dig the fact that they're spending these early episodes pairing everybody up in different combinations, good character development. Though Britta still needs a chance to be funny and be more than just a stern foil to teach the main character lessons.

okay, those were basically the two funny moments...

i can see this show getting cancelled.

scott seward, Friday, 23 October 2009 03:02 (fourteen years ago) link

I can see that, but I can also see this show hanging around for a while and doing well, which is often hard to visualize after just a handful of episodes.

some dude, Friday, 23 October 2009 03:04 (fourteen years ago) link

i think it could be really good if it would just settle down and find its rhythm.

but yeah, probably will be cancelled, unless NBC decide they've got nothing better (not unlikely!).

hope it doesn't. it can be pretty funny, i like the cast, and yeah britta's kinda hot.

I thought all the shows tonight were funny, and Community even more than usual. It seemed like the pace was quicker or something.

And WTF with the mascot?

Johnny Fever, Friday, 23 October 2009 03:56 (fourteen years ago) link

they got picked up for the second half of the season by NBC.

I liked this episode quite a bit.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Friday, 23 October 2009 22:50 (fourteen years ago) link

this show is great when it actually has jokes and pretty bad when it goes into heartwarming mode (esp. when dude showed his home movie about his relationship with his dad wtf). i wish they would abandon the relationships and character development and just be funny.

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 23 October 2009 22:53 (fourteen years ago) link

I read an interview with the creator where he claimed he wasn't really having a go at community college, a claim somewhat undercut by "We used to be the Greendale Grizzlies, but, you know, some of these students have been called 'animals' their whole lives."

Abed meta-commentary went to a whole new level last night, too!

ENERGY FOOD (en i see kay), Saturday, 24 October 2009 00:30 (fourteen years ago) link

i liked this episode a lot actually - the jeff/annie thing worked better than i would've expected, and I don't think it veered too far into cuteness like the abed documentary one. also it was worth watching just for a few bits (the racism bit above, troy's horrible 2004-era political fight songs). more donald glover!

Nhex, Tuesday, 27 October 2009 13:41 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah, I think last weeks was my favorite episode. I'm glad this show got picked up.

kingfish, Tuesday, 27 October 2009 17:00 (fourteen years ago) link

I just realized recently that Donald Glover (Troy) was a writer on 30 Rock. He's very quicky rising in my esteem.

I can't believe SNL rejected him in favor of Armisen playing Obama. Lorne must be on crack.
