THINGS TO DO

1. Find a place to live
2. Failing that, find a cardboard box to stay in for the interim
3. Drive across this crazy mysterious brown land in the BARINA
4. Get one of those iPod-cassette connectors because really, iTrip is useless
5. Sell a kidney for petrol (maybe)
6. Get drunk at my going away shindig (before I sell that kidney)
7. Tell Morris Iemma to quit before I come over

what do you need in a place to live, PP?

sunny successor, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 19:17 (fifteen years ago) link

He should live near that place where we won the meat raffle.

Pleasant Plains, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 19:29 (fifteen years ago) link

Any bar where you have to consult a map with a compass to see if you can enter is an excellent bar in my book.

Pleasant Plains, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 19:29 (fifteen years ago) link

hahha. actually, theres one of those in every suburb in australia.

sunny successor, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 19:34 (fifteen years ago) link

He should live near that place where we won the meat raffle.

I checked out a place today where the chick said the nearby pub was great - she won a meat tray there two weeks ago.

We're still at least another year from coming back to Sydney, Pato. Don't give up too soon.

SHOE SHOPPING

In Adelaide: there is only one store in tha ADL that sells Size 15 shoes and they only have one type of boring office/dress shoes and one type of casual/sports shoes (butt-ugly Converse sneakers). And it costs way over $100.

In Sydney: I went to the Homebush DFO today (don't ask) and found a bad-ass pair of Pumas with a big puma on the side looking super bad-ass on the shelf in my size! Size 15! And for the low low price of $65! And I look super duper bad-ass now!

MELBOURNE VERSUS SYDNEY: ROUND 1

Melbourne: froze my balls off on Wednesday night because bogan Queenslanders wanted us to walk in the freezing cold at night so we can have a drink at Crown Bloody Casino.

Sydney: had a pleasant sunny walk through Hyde Park at lunch today and almost got a tan.

King Boy Pato, Friday, 15 August 2008 12:12 (fifteen years ago) link

two weeks pass...

I went to two of Sydney's great cultural buildings this weekend: the Opera House and Westfield Parramatta. These experiences have led me to the conclusion that I neither want to be upper class or working class...

I AM THE WHITEST DUDE THAT LIVES IN STRATHFIELD YAHHHH

its cool bro i'm a rugby league player (King Boy Pato), Monday, 6 October 2008 11:32 (fifteen years ago) link

Still, I prefer the azn girls and dudes (esp. the girls) here in Strathfield than dealing with rich cunts or eternal uni students in certain other areas. It's all good.

strathfield has some sweet vintage shops

Bright Future (sunny successor), Monday, 6 October 2008 14:22 (fifteen years ago) link

okay, last time i was in strathfield was 95 or 96 but i dont think those clothes have gotten any less vintage

Bright Future (sunny successor), Monday, 6 October 2008 14:23 (fifteen years ago) link

PP told me he read in Time magazine (I think?) that Melbourne is Australia's Paris. They both have dirty rivers running through them I guess?

"Sydney's about glamour and bikinis. We're about after dark," explains born-and-bred Melburnian, Karen Webster, who helms the city's annual fashion festival. "They live for the beach. We're foodies. We live to eat."

Bright Future (sunny successor), Monday, 6 October 2008 14:49 (fifteen years ago) link

If Sydney is for glamour and bikinis, and Melbourne is for foodies, what purpose does Adelaide serve?

There was a stabbing murder in Strathfield! Just minutes walk away! It was a top news story because her sister killed her! You don't get excitement like that in Adelaide apart from the one every decade weird serial killings which are usually involving dudes from Elizabeth!

its cool bro i'm a rugby league player (King Boy Pato), Saturday, 11 October 2008 15:05 (fifteen years ago) link

i met a guy from adelaide who tried to tell me that it was a deeply fucked up place run by a behind-the-scenes freaky murder/sex cult called The Family. this guy was a weirdo btw.

what can you tell me about this, KBP?

jabba hands, Tuesday, 14 October 2008 00:18 (fifteen years ago) link

Er, dude was telling the truth.

Oh, if you're not a white male aged 12-16, it's unlikely you'll be brutally raped and murdered on videotape for a secret cabal controlling the city.

A man has told the Daily Telegraph he bumped into the gunman outside of the Lindt cafe and the gunman threatened to “shoot him too”:

Craig Stoker, a father of four from Eastlakes, told the newspaper:

He was wearing a black T-shirt with white writing on it and a headband and carrying a blue bag.

The bag bumped into me and there was something hard in it. I said ‘watch where you are fucking going’.

One of my friends, who not only used to be a fairly highly ranked policeman but a fairly highly ranked policeman involved in counter terrorism, was telling me last week that he reckoned this is increasingly about lack of proper mental health provision rather ISIS or whatever ... and, voila, this nutjob shows up.

Root It Oot (Tom D.), Monday, 15 December 2014 20:26 (nine years ago) link

... he was talking from a UK perspective of course.

Root It Oot (Tom D.), Monday, 15 December 2014 20:26 (nine years ago) link

This nutjob "showed up" seven years ago (hate letters to soldiers & widows then, arranging his ex's murder in 2012, 40+ sexual assault charges as a spiritual healer in 2013) and only "became" a Muslim two weeks ago. There's no sensible reason to invoke ISIS enough to even dismiss it.

Gland Of Horses (sic), Monday, 15 December 2014 21:36 (nine years ago) link

only "became" a Muslim two weeks ago

So he was just an Iranian with an anti govt agenda before this? (serious q, from what I was seeing on the news it seems hes been in the news on and off for a long time ranting about hating the govt and saving women and children in the middle east).

I checked Snoops , and it is for real (Trayce), Monday, 15 December 2014 22:34 (nine years ago) link

I think he just switched flavors of Islam--Shia to Sunni--a few weeks ago.

kate78, Monday, 15 December 2014 22:48 (nine years ago) link

Amanda Palmer giving us her oh so awaited Opinionz on the matter, of course.

I checked Snoops , and it is for real (Trayce), Tuesday, 16 December 2014 00:50 (nine years ago) link

Quite obviously a very sick individual and there was more than enough warning. (He switched brands of Islam in his head so he could be a lunchbox legend like all the other wannabe Daesh.) Why this guy wasn't locked up is beyond me.

Very, very sad about the two people lost and from what the media are saying, they both went out as real heroes.

Walked up to Martin Place at lunch and it was very sad - seemed everyone had come up to pay their respects. Walked past a flower stand nearby and the line up went for ages.
