9-3, first winning season since way back in 1990!

I am GENUINELY surprised that they beat the Steelers.

I am suprised that Pittsburgh tried to go toe to toe with them in a passing shootout considering how banged up Roethlisberger has become. Big Ben played pretty well, but it was obvious from a few throws he was not 100%.

The Bengals weakness has been much more against the run than the pass, where they have been getting interceptions left and right. I would have thought the Steelers would try to run the ball and control more of the clock.

Oh well...mark it as a win.

I think the Steelers are in trouble to make the playoffs, anyway it goes it is going to be close.

two weeks pass...
Now they have their first division title since 1990!!!

Rudi Johnson had a great game yesterday. That one run where Rudi straight armed three defenders for an extra 20 yards was great.

Detroit is definitely in football purgatory. It sounded a couple of times like the Bengals were playing at home, there was so many Cinci fans in the stands. The "Who Dey, Who Dey Ain't Nobody Going to Beat Dem Bengals Chant" was cutting through pretty clear at the end of the game.

I really want to see the Chargers and Bengals play in the playoffs, that would be some AFC high octane offensive football at it's finest.

I hope Chris Perry's ankle gets better for the playoffs, as he was a nice secret weapon off the bench for the Bengals. T.J. is also getting a bit banged up.

CINCINNATI - Chad Johnson is dreaming of a whitetail Christmas. The Bengals receiver suggested Tuesday that he has a special touchdown celebration planned for Cincinnati's game on Christmas Eve — one that will top his Riverdance, his end zone putt and his sideline proposal from earlier this season.

A surrogate reindeer, perhaps?

"On the highway, I hit a deer," Johnson said Tuesday, insisting he was serious and that the animal wasn't hurt. "I kept him. He's at home in the garage. I'm going to use him for the celebration this weekend. He's a prop. They might suspend me for the last game, but I think this one is worth it."

Even if Johnson is serious — and, with him, there's no telling — coach Marvin Lewis would certainly put his foot down. So Johnson's scheme may never get beyond the talking stage.

He wasn't joking about his desire to come up with a celebration that will keep fans talking long after the Bengals' last regular-season home game.

Fans in Detroit booed when he merely handed the ball to an official following his touchdown during a 41-17 victory Sunday that clinched the AFC North title. It was only the second time this season that he didn't celebrate a touchdown — the other came when the officials needed time to decide if he had scored, spoiling the moment.

"But this Saturday, I'll be back to my old self," he said. "You can look forward to the celebration being part of something that has to do with Christmas. It's going to be fun. I might get in trouble, so I might as well let that out now. I might get in trouble for what I'm going to do, but it's worth it."

Johnson was excited by the thought of getting a deer into the end zone routine. His Riverdance brought him national attention as a hoofer. Now, he's fixated on hooves.

"This is going to be the greatest celebration of all time, man," he said. "I actually use an animal."

The new version of the Bengals fight song "Fear Da' Tiger" features Cinci native Bootsy Collins and is the coolest thing any NFL team has ever done.

“Fear Da Tiger” lyrics

Crank it up fool
Fear the tigers, fear the tigers, cause we’re the tigers
We’re ready to rumble, we’re ready to rumble, ’cause we king of the jungle
Bootsy Collins: Rap ’em up, Duane
Duane Clemons: I’m not Paul Wall but I’m real dirty like the South
And you know I got a bad girly at home and she’s cookin’ on some neck bones
On the sideline talkin’ on the telephone
Made two adjustments and now it’s on
Now I’m back on the field to seal the deal
Blow the back field up with intent to kill
Now that’s how I’m livin’ cause I’m way too real.
Who dey, who dey, who dey, who dey think they gonna beat them Bengals
Who dey, who dey, who dey, who dey think they gonna beat them Bengals
Stacy Andrews: We’re the biggest cats in the jungle
When we come through we gonna shake rattle and rumble
Rumble like some thunder in the middle of the summer
Runnin’ over players like a Hummer and a Honda on them 84’s.
Oh yeah, I’m the man, when I hit the field you understand what I’m sayin’
The fellas hate seeing me when I show my mean mug
Feel the icing on the cake when you see the scoreboard, man
Who dey, who dey, who dey, who dey think they gonna beat them Bengals
Who dey, who dey, who dey, who dey think they gonna beat them Bengals
Ben Wilkerson: Fear the tigers because we’re the tigers.
Opponents they want to hate us but the fans they will like us
They love us understand that ain’t nobody can touch us, nobody can rush us
Now with us you’re a buster, we battle on field just like we battle on stage
’Cause on the turf you’re in our home and we rattling cages
Feel outrageous, showing no mercy, just like the ultimate fighter, lookin’ right into the eye of a tiger
Fear the tigers, fear the tigers cause we’re the tigers (crank it up fool)
We’re ready to rumble, we’re ready to rumble cause we’re king of the jungle (crank it up fool)
Fear the tigers, fear the tigers cause we’re the tigers (crank it up fool)
We’re ready to rumble, we’re ready to rumble cause we’re king of the jungle (crank it up fool)
Bootsy Collins: Who dey, who dey, who dey (crank it up fool)
Who dey, who dey, who dey think gonna beat them Bengals
Who dey, who dey, who dey (crank it up fool)
Who dey, who dey, who dey think gonna beat them Bengals

Cinci used "Eye of the Tiger" and "Welcome to the Jungle" in the past, which are also both pretty good fight songs.

Still no candle to the Super Bowl Shuffle though, let's be honest.

Have you seen the video? The tune is really catchy, it is a Bootsie's Rubber Band sounding song.

Yeah...but...but...Superbowl Shuffle.

Also I just reread that article, that's fucked up.

Carson Palmer signed through 2014? What is this SCI FI? It still seems weird to me to plan anything for 2014, but body willing, Palmer will still be playing QB for the Bengals in that far off year.

It looks to me like Cincy wants to model themselves after their Marino/Dolphins, Favre/Packers, and Elway/Broncos predecessors. I can't blame them, as I suspect Palmer's that type of QB.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 30 December 2005 12:30 (eighteen years ago) link

Cincy is due for some draft luck, as they had some terrible luck in the 90s with their first round draft picks, both with injuries and bad choices.

The thing that caught my eye in that article is that the Bengals have already got Chad Johnson, TJ Houshmanzada, and Rudi Johnson already signed up for a few years, so the core of that offense will be playing together for a few more years. I think you can look at the success the Colts have had with having a core of players that have been together for years and see what that kind of stability can do for an offense.

That really sucks. Palmer seems like a good dude.

Wow. Cincinatti has been brought to one knee by a Hawaiian German.

This is like Murphy's Law, isn't it? That'll teach 'em to sign guys til 2014.

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Friday, 13 January 2006 15:56 (eighteen years ago) link

in the nfl that doesn't matter though ally, since only signing bonuses are guaranteed. every nfl contract is theoretical, even peyton's.

No, Yancey, I know that, but I mean the theory of doing it. It seems to guarantee bad shit.
