people are generally friendly

mothers against celibacy (skowly), Friday, 26 January 2007 19:40 (seventeen years ago) link

not as bad as psychology! also probably better than social sciences, the liberal arts field where people like me convince themselves they are doing something useful.

Jessie the Monster (scarymonsterrr), Friday, 26 January 2007 19:41 (seventeen years ago) link

(UG) Psych majors are less employable than any liberal arts major.

UART variations (ex machina), Friday, 26 January 2007 19:55 (seventeen years ago) link

i hold in special contempt liberal arts majors who can't master basic grammar & spelling. YOU HAVE NO EXCUSE.

elmo argonaut (allocryptic), Friday, 26 January 2007 19:57 (seventeen years ago) link

^^^^ otm

Psych majors MIGHT be better off than philosophy majors.

Jessie the Monster (scarymonsterrr), Friday, 26 January 2007 20:05 (seventeen years ago) link

H79.2576 Lecture 4 Credits
Fall 2006
Instructor: Hiler

The Internet has enabled a cyber society that's changing the world. Yet compared to ancient civilizations in Greece and Rome, it falls shockingly short: where is the democracy? The rule of law? The property rights? Into this vacuum, websites like Google and Ebay are emerging as the new nationstate. In this class, we will place cyberspace in the context of ancient civilizations, as we compare cyberpunks like Stephenson and Gibson with philosophers like Machiavelli and Madison. We'll also look at the unique governance needs of websites and virtual worlds, including Massively Multiplayer Online Games like World of Warcraft and Ultima. Finally, we'll re-imagine governance in a world of social media (weblogs, social networks, wikis, etc.). For the final class project, students will design online self-governance systems: reputation systems, social norms, online justice systems, and other cyber institutions.

ONLINE JUSTICE = NOIZE BOARD TRIBUNAL.
