I'll go with Chic Cheer. Does anyone elselike Wyatt's version of "At Last I Am Free" better...Incomming!!!!!!

The competition is ultra-fierce, but in the end it has to be "Thinking of You" - the chukka-chukka intro that Orange Juice fans can get, the swoony two-note strings, the subtle way the drums come in and that velvety voice swooping over that tune and those words. LOVELY !

Wyatt's version is surprisingly good. I find his voice is of an aquired taste but I feel that he brings a poignancy to the song through his beliefs and devotion to the causes he supports.

Halston, Gucci, Fiorucci... I say 'He's The Greatest Dancer'.

Shit who's "I'm Coming Out" by again? Um "My Feet Keep Dancing" or "I Want Your Love", maybe. Or "My Forbidden Lover".

Oh. Never mind.

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 22:46 (nineteen years ago) link

Oh god, pick only one? Impossible.

"Mayday" by Sheila B. Devotion.
"Let's Go On Vacation" by Sister Sledge.
"I Like Love" by Norma Jean.

Chic themselves, I really love "I Got Protection" from "Real People." Amazing.

eddie hurt (ddduncan), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 23:44 (nineteen years ago) link

It really is impossible, I could happily nominate "Savoir Faire" even

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 23:46 (nineteen years ago) link

Either "Le Freak" or "Thinking of You".

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 00:09 (nineteen years ago) link

Fuck one -- these guys have too much brilliant music. In no particular order:

1) "I Like Love" -- Norma Jean (S/T)
2) "26" -- Chic (Real People)
3) "Pretty Baby" -- Sister Sledge (Love Somebody Today)
4) "Give Up" -- Diana Ross (Diana)
5) The entirety of She's the Boss -- Mick Jagger

Just kidding about that last one.

thinking of you - sister sledge.

it was roughly 3:55 am on sunday that i came to the conclusion that this is a serious contender for the best record ever made.

The Nile Rodgers remix of Sister Sledge's "Lost in Music" on the Larry Levan comp is, like, the greatest single ever recorded.

I only recently realised that Modjo's "Lady" samples "Soup For One" by ver Chic.

JohnFoxxsJuno (JohnFoxxsJuno), Tuesday, 8 August 2006 10:29 (seventeen years ago) link

Diana's "Upside Down" ROCKS so hard. (Too easy/difficult a task to choose any single thing by Chic proper.)

Myonga Von Bootee (M. Agony Von Bontee), Tuesday, 8 August 2006 13:50 (seventeen years ago) link

Boring choice, but nothing quite like "Good Times".

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 06:34 (seventeen years ago) link

I mean, of course, "Wild Boys", "Material Girl", "China Girl" or "King For a Day" don't count, right? :-)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 06:35 (seventeen years ago) link

Matthew, you are a champ. "Give Up" friggin' rules.

I have to go with "Good Times," though. "Roller skates! Roller skates!" And a side of Tony Thompson drum fills from "Material Girl" -- I'll count it if you will, Geir.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 08:05 (seventeen years ago) link

Well, I dunno. The point is Nile Rodgers (sometimes with Bernard Edwards) did a lot of brilliant production work for other acts in the mid 80s, but I still feel those are not works of the Chic organisasion the way the Chic/Sister Sledge ones and the "Diana" album are. Amongst other things because Rodgers/Edwards didn't write the actual songs for Bowie/Duran Duran/Madonna/Thompson Twins/whoever.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 11:21 (seventeen years ago) link

And "Good Times" is so good nevertheless that I have no problem standing by that song as my choice.

"My Feet Keep Dancing"!

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Sunday, 4 May 2008 08:16 (fifteen years ago) link

That's my number two. Number one is "Lost in Music." And not the silly ass remixed one (sorry Soto).

Kevin John Bozelka, Sunday, 4 May 2008 08:21 (fifteen years ago) link

Number three is Alcazar's "Crying at the Discotheque" if that counts.

I never understand why Dance Dance Dance (Yowsah Yowsah Yowsah)doesn't get more love. It's a disco juggernaut.
