maybe my favourite album of the year.

stirmonster, Friday, 8 August 2008 16:16 (fifteen years ago) link

love this album btw, gets kinda long tho but who cares

It's a great album to listen to in sides.

ian, Friday, 8 August 2008 16:18 (fifteen years ago) link

I bought those two EPs when they came out a few years back. Boring as fuck.

Man, I can be a dick sometimes. Yeesh. So, uh, have they gotten better? Haven't heard teh new one.

contenderizer, Friday, 8 August 2008 16:26 (fifteen years ago) link

A little leaner. More "focused" perhaps. Keep in mind the two 12"s were unedited practice tapes, this is a studio record.

OVERRATED

by the noise board.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Saturday, 9 August 2008 02:49 (fifteen years ago) link

one of those things where i started listening to it and was like "oh, okay. yeah. that's all?"

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Saturday, 9 August 2008 02:49 (fifteen years ago) link

HAY GUYS HAVE YOU HEARD THIS BAND HIGH RISE 'CAUSE,

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Saturday, 9 August 2008 02:52 (fifteen years ago) link

what about blues control? i still haven't heard either band. i'm curious though. i guess i should just myspace this stuff.

Maria :D, Saturday, 9 August 2008 02:59 (fifteen years ago) link

me, that is.

scott seward, Saturday, 9 August 2008 03:00 (fifteen years ago) link

sometimes i have to ask myself: do i really need a religious knives album?

scott seward, Saturday, 9 August 2008 03:01 (fifteen years ago) link

i realize these bands probably have nothing to do with each other. they are just names i see a lot.

scott seward, Saturday, 9 August 2008 03:01 (fifteen years ago) link

i did buy the eat skull album on siltbreeze today though.

scott seward, Saturday, 9 August 2008 03:04 (fifteen years ago) link

endless happiness please

sonderangerbot, Saturday, 9 August 2008 03:05 (fifteen years ago) link

sorry that was the most useless post ive ever made. I just really wanna play that song real loud right now and its so late//early... i will have to keep youtubin hall n oates then

sonderangerbot, Saturday, 9 August 2008 03:08 (fifteen years ago) link

okay blues control on myspace makes me curiouser. religious knives on myspace does not. endless boogie only have one jam/song up and it doesn't make me very curious.

scott seward, Saturday, 9 August 2008 03:10 (fifteen years ago) link

in all honesty though; is a Träd Gräs & Stenar/Canned Heat-thing really a positive thing about a 2008 band?

sonderangerbot, Saturday, 9 August 2008 03:14 (fifteen years ago) link

i wouldn't know. i just watch this video over and over like an idiot:

ian, Saturday, 9 August 2008 03:44 (fifteen years ago) link

he is a good guy!

scott seward, Saturday, 9 August 2008 03:44 (fifteen years ago) link

i would KILL for a status quo/savoy brown/foghat cover band where i live called endless boogie. i would go see them every week.

there is a cover band here called the boogies, but they just play lame disco covers. and they wear afro wigs.

scott seward, Saturday, 9 August 2008 03:47 (fifteen years ago) link

it doesn't sound like endless boogie. xp

ian, Saturday, 9 August 2008 03:47 (fifteen years ago) link

and you should probably get a blues ontrol LP.

ian, Saturday, 9 August 2008 03:50 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah, i might check out one of their records.

scott seward, Saturday, 9 August 2008 03:50 (fifteen years ago) link

they are both good. the 2nd one is less spacey and more head banging, sweatier. that one should be easier to find i think.

ian, Saturday, 9 August 2008 03:52 (fifteen years ago) link

Well it wasn't meant to be negative. Would it be more or less appealing to you if i'd called it a CCR/hawkwind-thing?

ian, Saturday, 9 August 2008 03:54 (fifteen years ago) link

Endless Boogie rule ... SMOKING FIGS!!! .. but somehow the new one let me down in comparison to the live show...

the live show seemed to totally evoke that kind of free-form canned heat ("refried boogie") expansiveness ... Trad Gras, sure, heard that too .. they just were SUCH a sympatico live band, what with ups and downs and so forth ... this album is GREAT, and I've been rocking it many Friday nights for weeks now, but still it doesn't hit me *as great* as the guys did live...

Stormy Davis, Saturday, 9 August 2008 04:47 (fifteen years ago) link

i am listening to The Fluid's 'Clear Black Paper' right now though, and i have to say it sounds better than Endless Boogie

Stormy Davis, Saturday, 9 August 2008 04:48 (fifteen years ago) link

all i can say is i love any band that can bring ian, stormy, scott and GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ's back to the board. long live endless boogie.

Endless Boogie are fun live and pretty much the only good band that's played Jersey City (other than the big theater in Journal Square) since Uncle Joe's closed, so I like them for that. They're pretty boring on record though.

Hurting 2, Saturday, 9 August 2008 15:37 (fifteen years ago) link

When I was living in Venice Beach, I had a fig tree in my yard. Beneath the tree sat the smoker I had built out of large terra cotta pots and a hotplate. The figs literally fell into the smoker and I took it as a sign. I took a bunch of ripe figs, cut them in half, placed them in a Pyrex dish cut side up, added a quarter-to-half inch of fruit juice (I used different juices on different occasions), and smoked them for a few hours . . . occasionally turning the figs in the ever-reducing juice . . . but always leaving them cut side up so they could more easily continue drying out . . . and then turning them cut side down for the last half-hour or so to soften the cut side a bit in the now-reduced-to-a-smokey-syrup juice. They were awesome with cured meats, on ice cream, and with just about anything else. Smoked candied figs! Shoot me an email if you want more info on how to build a kick-ass smoker for well under $100.

scuz clear black paper is a damn good record. listened to some of the new EB record. it's okay. improves on the early EPs, but not a whole lot. might be fun to see live.

contenderizer, Saturday, 9 August 2008 23:15 (fifteen years ago) link

might be fun to see live.

ian, Saturday, 9 August 2008 23:19 (fifteen years ago) link

lots

contenderizer, Saturday, 9 August 2008 23:44 (fifteen years ago) link

and, yeah, it makes almost anything "fun to see live"

contenderizer, Saturday, 9 August 2008 23:45 (fifteen years ago) link

these guys... you're either picking up what they're putting down or you're not. I like the first 2 eps better than the new one. the less they try the better I like 'em, and of the vocals I am not a fan. but you know what thumbs up to them and their mission.

and whatever blues control alb has "always on time" is the one you need. scott or whoever.

Edward III, Sunday, 10 August 2008 04:51 (fifteen years ago) link

yikes, at the beginning of Smokin Figs I was afraid I was gonna hate this record. agree that the vocals can be tough to take at times (almost Jon Spencer-ish?)

gets way better as it rolls along and they just zone the fuck out into some raga-rock

dmr, Thursday, 14 August 2008 19:25 (fifteen years ago) link

As New York 90s indie's official mascot/joke band, I kind of get a kick out of them. I have no idea why I would purchase their record though.

Never heard of these guys until Pitchfork reviewed Full House Head the other day. Listening to it now, and they are officially the first good band I've ever learned about from that site. The riff to "Empty Eye" is pure Junior Kimbrough awesomeness. What I like about these dudes is that unlike a lot of other contemporary heavy blooze-rawk boogie outfits (Amplified Heat, for example), they don't tip too far in the direction of stoner metal. They're definitely in the spirit of early '70s stuff, but unique. Like this a lot.

Endless Boogie’s Paul Major credits the band’s former bassist with inventing the credo “When you get there, you gotta stay there."

When they "get there" they are pretty fucking awesome, so no arguing with that credo.

I don't know if I'm getting old or if Endless Boogie is legit the best rock'n'roll band out there right now. Finally saw them live last fall and it was scorching.

Anyways, their 2 initial private press LPs are getting reissued via No Quarter: https://endlessboogie.bandcamp.com/album/vol-i-ii

Also, the tour-only CDR/download No Favors is worth it for the two 20-minute jams alone, and a particularly beefy "Taking Out The Trash": https://endlessboogie.bandcamp.com/album/no-favors
