My favorite track of theirs is "Storm"

And I'd say soundwise they are pretty straight up synthpop, but with lots more "traditional instrumentation" - woodwinds, flutes, etc
Really goregous, and sounded strangely aproppriate the other night in my headphones while lying impatiently and uncomfortably in the dark after waking from a troubling nightmare (and couldn't fall back asleep.)

I think they're unfairly ignored for being less dancey and more twee/wimpy than the remainder of synthpop (and that's saying quite a mouthful)

i love Wide Awake. just such an appealing formula - the best parts of China Crisis, Lightning Seeds, Prefab Sprout and some really obvious AM tunesmith(s) i can't quite finger. sophisto-pop with a great voice, pretty good lyrics, lush production, and excellent arrangements. and if'n "Bye-bye Little Bird" isn't the best Moose song ever...

They did a great mellow cover of "Anarchy In The UK" on one of their singles. I think it was the one that came in heart-shaped packaging.

"Storm" was a melancholy mope favourite of mine when it came out, which would have been what... 87 or 88? Loved that ep. Still have it on vinyl. Never got anything else.

Dream Kitchen was on a cassette given away with Q millions of years ago, that's where I first heard them, I think.

For some reason, their Sue album has been lying about on my computer desk for months now.
I bought it after a positive review in Record Mirror. I thought they would be Housmartins-ish. As it turned out they were closer to The Beautiful South who emerged the same year. "Sloppy Heart" my favourite track, but I stuck with TBS afterwards.

So looking up info for another thread and reading that lead singer Tim Freeman's brother Martin is Tim from The Office and that the character is based on the singer!

Mr. Odd was right about their mellow cover of Sex Pistols' "Anarchy In The UK". I was never the same after I heard that.

I remember when this came out I used to confuse them with the Beloved because "Nothing" basically sounds like an alterate take on "The Sun Rising".

This just popped up on a thread somewhere. Unlikely covers or something.

Great band, I was living in Brighton when they were around and saw them a fair few times. Sue was a fine début, especially the singles "Sloppy Heart" and "Typical" which I used to play to death back in the day. Having said that I lost interest after that when they went all trancey-dancey. The cover of "Anarchy" is on the b-side of the "Sloppy Heart" single and the Cherry Red reissue of the album, and is well worth hearing. Funnily enough I always thought Tim bore a passing resemblance to John Lydon which certainly added to the strangeness of their version.

I love "Typical". Unusual song; instead of a chorus it gets that lovely instrumental break instead. Kudos for having the phrase "buggering off" in a song too.
