Also that fantastic Homestead comp _Human Music_.

I missed that one - but I still listen to 'The Wailing Ultimate' occasionally. Great Salem 66 track on it (Wishing Well.) I bought a Salem 66 LP and didn't take to it... (any recommendations?)

Man - I kind of forgot about bands like Volcano Suns, Phantom Tollbooth. Had forgotten about Breaking Circus until I saw one of their albums in the racks on "That 80's Show". (misplaced by about 5 years.)

SST hasn't done a new release since '97 or '98... I know they exist in some capacity to keep churning out the big stuff (Husker, Flag, etc.)...it's really sad because they were the bravest, coolest label for so long. One more obscure SST band that I always thought was just brilliant but overlooked was Minneapolis' Run Westy Run... I think they went on to Twin Tone (whatever happened to them?) and have a new band called Iffy.

Both labels meant a lot to me, but I haven't thought about them, or the bands on them, in years.

I think Human Music is still available @ CDNow.com - for only $9.99! (I bought my copy a while back, though.) Offers a nice mix of the golden days of indie (Embarrassment! Urinals! Volcano Suns! HALF- JAPANESE!) and an excellent cross-section of Flying Nun goodness. I could do w/out Yo La Tengo covering Eddie Money, though.

Destroy - DC3. Dez was OK and all but what the fuck was he thinking?

Search: Elliott Sharp. Not everyone's cup of tea, and he's made some downright awful albums, but I love his stuff with Carbon that he did for SST, and that Soldier String Quartet.

Plus, you know, all that stuff everyone else mentioned.

Destroy: I think pretty much everything after Pell Mell's "Flow" can safely be obliterated.

the only noteworthy thing that either of those labels did was Homestead putting out the first CD edition of the greatest album ever made (Hallelujah all the way home).
and that Human Music compilation is particularly loathsome.

You mean everything else Pell Mell did, or everything else on SST?

Everything else on SST after that album came out. As near as I can remember.

I like Pell Mell's INTERSTATE just fine.

Looking thru some old vinyl last night I found two fantastic albums on Homestead, both by The Outnumbered - "Why Are All The Good People Going Crazy" and "Holding the Grenade Too Long".
