I like the way you've used those sounds, I don't think they sound cheesy in this context at all, the arrangement is really nice.

Honestly, I'm staggered, I'm playing the thing on a bloody loop. More soon please.

I'm not crazy about the electronic instrumentation (does that prove my aesthetic is more old fashioned than yours, Geir?--but I'm not against all electronics really), and I find the song a bit too long, but I do like the catchy melody.

The melodies are quite nice, as w/ the production values but the drums could use a little play and intricacy -- the straight beats feel somewhat plodding? A few more fills and rolls, maybe just a bit more looseness?

Agree about the drums. I am not a drummer, and probably a drummer would have done better with programmed drums too.

The banjo is v. nice, reminds me of Sean O'Hagan.

Banjo? You mean sitar?

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Saturday, 5 March 2005 17:50 (nineteen years ago) link

Is it sitar? It sound like a banjo to me.

i really, really like this. not sure about the intro, but the cheesy widdling noise comes into its own in the middle eight. i like this a lot.

Each is free to interpret the words, but you may have a point. ;)

I like it. I think, like others say, elements like the chiming piano and drums could be a bit more dynamic - drop 'em out, bring up levels etc. Nice melodies, but (until the break 2/3 of the way through) it feels a bit plodding.

It sounds a bit like what would have happened if Jeff Lynne had produced a cover of B.J. Thomas's "I Just Can't Help Believing."

I played it once and I can't shake that chorus, though it should have faded out at 3'48. Respect to Geir. If there is ever an ILX Travelling Wilbury's he's definitely their Jeff Lynne, what with the vocoders and harmonies.

Good stuff Geir.

Michael White (Hereward), Monday, 7 March 2005 17:07 (nineteen years ago) link

Good to see somebody finally mention the harmonies. Together with the middle eight, they are the part I am most happy about myself :)

Thanks for all kind words anyway. I guess I could do some editing, but would be tough to make it run for much less than around 4.50.
