shine headlights on me (electricsound), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 21:28 (nineteen years ago) link

sounds kinda like the Tindersticks.
much more inspired arrangement than the nina gordon thing.
Actually "better" than the original IMO, heh.

Hah! Who is this??

buck van smack (Buck Van Smack), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 01:38 (nineteen years ago) link

It's Spielerfrau. More precisely, it's me drunk and very much solo.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 02:46 (nineteen years ago) link

every time i listen to it, immediately after the vocals start i end up on the floor in hysterics.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 02:48 (nineteen years ago) link

Don't thank me, thank Anal Cunt.

(If I ever do a covers album, this is so going to be the title).

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 03:13 (nineteen years ago) link

I thought G.G. Allin wrote it?

Don't Ever Antagonize The Horny (AaronHz), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 03:27 (nineteen years ago) link

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 03:35 (nineteen years ago) link

There goes the title then.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 03:37 (nineteen years ago) link

"don't thank me, thank GG" sounds better

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 03:42 (nineteen years ago) link

Well, either way it's fucking terrific!

You'd have to log in to read that I think, but someone (from ILM?) posted a link to the mp3 under the heading Wanna hear the greatest cover song EVER???.

Don't Ever Antagonize The Horny (AaronHz), Thursday, 3 March 2005 14:59 (nineteen years ago) link

Instant classic.

I've sent this to all my friends.
None of them seemed to enjoy it as much as I do; so I'm getting new friends.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 3 March 2005 21:11 (nineteen years ago) link

I would too. People who don't like this don't deserve to have friends.

sounds kinda like the Tindersticks

indeed it does -- that was the 1st thing i thought (i.e., it sounds like the tindersticks if you squint yer ears). i presume the stuart staples similarities are intentional.

even more plausibly, it also kinda sounds like it could be a leonard cohen song (and you don't even have to squint yer ears).

Eisbär (llamasfur), Friday, 1 April 2005 04:43 (nineteen years ago) link

Hmm, would the Michael Idov of www.michaelidov.com, who hosts this amusing song, be the same one who gave me 2.1 out of 10 in Pitchfork for my Oskar Tennis Champion album? I'd have thought a man who thought this kind of thing was funny would also dig My Sperm Is Not Your Enemy...

if i killed everything i've fucked i wouldn't have to kill anyone..ooops! too much information.

spitney brears, Thursday, 2 June 2005 02:33 (eighteen years ago) link

Momus,
it is indeed I, and I am indeed your fan (which should have been easy to deduce from the review); I was just unlucky enough not to enjoy Oskar Tennis Champion. Were I to review Ping Pong, or The Philosophy Of Momus, or your live show, or your book...

I also admit, from the safe distance of - what, two years? Jesus - that I was being unduly harsh. But that is what one gets from a fan (momentarily) scorned.

My first album should be appearing on these shores somewhere in late Summer-early Fall. There is nothing I would enjoy more than a sound drubbing from you in the medium of your choice.

x-post, naturally

Huzzah - I've been searching for ages to find this thread as the song has been regularly listened to for over a year but with no artist attribution.

This is so going on my next crush mix. - kenan

Heh, it actually did go on mine. We're now living together. I somehow doubt that this song had anything to do with that fact.
