I swear to you, on one of the verses I'm pretty sure he says something like "I'm sorry I was dating a whore" which is just like, what? I'm completely unconvinced this is serious, wtf?

Allyzay, Wednesday, 4 February 2004 14:50 (twenty years ago) link

I'm sorry he was dating a whore too

Dadaismus (Dada), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 14:56 (twenty years ago) link

I'm not. If it results in a song and video as funny as this one, he should exclusively date whores.

Allyzay, Wednesday, 4 February 2004 14:57 (twenty years ago) link

I'm glad I found this thread. I saw a video for this on MTV2 this-morning while trying to convince myself to go to work, and I really couldn't tell if it was a joke (by which I mean an intentional joke) or not. Now I'm just convinced that he either has some truly serious dirt on someone or just stuck a truckload of horses heads in various music industy execs beds.

mmmmsalt (Graeme), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 17:55 (twenty years ago) link

It's catchy, his voice is pretty sweet and the chorus includes the line, "Fuck you, you ho." Gotta be a classic.

Salmon Pink (Salmon Pink), Thursday, 5 February 2004 02:51 (twenty years ago) link

Lazy ass songwriting. Kisses that "don't mean shit" in one line "don't mean jack" in another (you know, so he can rhyme it with "don't want you back.") And the video is obnoxious. Dud.

Salmon Pink (Salmon Pink), Thursday, 5 February 2004 02:53 (twenty years ago) link

HAW HAW HAW I WAS RIGHT ALLLL ALONGGGGG. THIS SONG IS FUCKING HIIIIIILARIOUS. I MEAN SERRYUSSLY this is not a joke. God help me THIS SONG IS NOT A FUCKING JOKE. What the fuck? Staten Island whitey gets to scream I WAS DATING A HO and he gets a top 40 hit? What the serious fuck.

I'm so glad this will be on my permanent record as a Pazz'n'Jop Top Ten single for 2003. I beat the bell curve yo.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 5 February 2004 07:06 (twenty years ago) link

oh man. seriously if you ever find out how yer dating a ho what you gotta do is take her to an outdoor pizza bistro. Then RIGHT when the pepperoni arrives you start ripping into her and then around the third verse you just fah-LING that pizza across the place cuz GAWDAMN if it ain't bad enuff you caught her cheating now she's gonna know that she's not gonna have any pizza. This video is some sorta gospel. TAKE NOTES.

So has anyone else heard the album? I'm listening for the first time right now and so far it's about half really great and half pretty bland.

Colin Beckett (Colin Beckett), Sunday, 7 March 2004 23:18 (twenty years ago) link

i kept hearing about a response record by some girl supposedly the original song was written about called "fuck you back". forget who it's by though

JaXoN (JasonD), Sunday, 7 March 2004 23:51 (twenty years ago) link

"Fuck You Right Back" by Frankee (or Frankie) is hitting the airwaves big time around here. it's a pretty funny response, lines like "your sex was wack / fuck you right back" and the like. though i'm sure it will lose its flavor even faster than the Eamon original.

jonviachicago, Sunday, 7 March 2004 23:57 (twenty years ago) link

The video is pure comedy. It scans kind of like the consolation prize to the first runner-up at the Color Me Badd auditions.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 8 March 2004 00:20 (twenty years ago) link

two songs on this album are the first guilty pleasures ive had in years! he's like a more annoying 4th singing beastie boy and yet those catchy ho-wop melodies mean i keep putting those mp3s ('i'd rather fuck with you' and 'get off my dick' to be specific) back in the queue :/

jeremy jordan (cruisy), Monday, 8 March 2004 00:24 (twenty years ago) link

To me, that single sounds exactly like Leo Sayer. This is a criticism.

All Bunged Up. (Jake Proudlock), Monday, 8 March 2004 00:25 (twenty years ago) link

haha eamon is the first TRUE emo-"rap" star (in the nu-emo sense). mmmm passive-aggressive misogyny.

seriously aside from the obvious musical/sonic strictures imposed by individual genres (and the attendant cultural baggage [practice lookin hard vs. precious moments eyeballs]) please tell me how this bullshit differs from dashboard confessional

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 8 March 2004 00:42 (twenty years ago) link

(aside from the fact that i'd rather have sizzling hot needles inserted into my urethra than listen to d.c. ever again, and eamon just kinda bugs me.)

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 8 March 2004 01:12 (twenty years ago) link

He's like Cody Chesnutt without the sense of humor, which probably doesn't sound like an endorsment. I'm pretty indiscriminating when it comes to R&B.

Colin Beckett (Colin Beckett), Monday, 8 March 2004 01:17 (twenty years ago) link

i really, really, REALLY react badly to even the hint of possible not-really-meaning-it in R&B.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 8 March 2004 01:19 (twenty years ago) link

r. kelly gets away with it because he always looks like the ridiculousness spilling out of his mouth is DEATHLY SERIOUS.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Monday, 8 March 2004 01:25 (twenty years ago) link

I don't doubt that this fuckwit "means it", but I doubt he's thinking through what he's saying, which is the BIG problem I have w/ most "emo" type things - it's said (or trying to be said) at The Moment when The Pain hits. Bully for Eamon / DC / Death Cab / Limp Bizkit / etc. for getting this shit off the chest, but fuck off for thinking I'd want to hear this sort of nonsense more than once. If I actually stood behind EVERYTHING I spouted off when I was really pissed off at anything, I'd sound like a raving lunatic. Things "of the moment" should undoubtedly stay "of the moment".

And those damn feminine "ooooh oooh" backing vocals - oh, it's IRONIC that there's a girl backing his mealy mouthed asscrap up. Gawrsh.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 8 March 2004 01:37 (twenty years ago) link

yeah this is crap but it's entertaining. like if you took a dump and then looked down for the post-dump evaluation and eminem was on it, or if it started singing "there's NO business like SHOW business."

or if it said "fuck you you ho"

The rebuttal:

Lyrics:

Oh oh
oooh
no no no

(You know there's two sides to every story)

See I don't know why you cryin' like a bitch
talkin' shit like a snitch
why you write a song 'bout me
if you really didn't care
you wouldn't wanna share
tellin' everybody just how you feel

CHORUS
fuck What I did, was your fault somehow
fuck the presents, I threw all that shit out
don't go cryin' you didn't mean jack
well guess what yo, fuck you right back

What I did was your fault somehow
the presents,I threw all that shit out
don't go cryin' you didn't mean jack
well guess what your, fuck you right back

You thought you could really make me moan
I had better sex all along (ha ha ha ha)
I had to do your friend
now you want me to come back
you must be smokin' crack
Im goin' else where and thats a fact

Fuck all those nights I moaned real loud
fuck it, I faked it, aren't you proud?
fuck all those nights you thought you broke my back
well guess what your, your sex was wack

Fuck all those nights I moaned real loud
fuck it,I faked it,i'll rent you out
fuck all those nights you thought you broke my back
well guess what your, your sex was wack

whoa whoa
uh uh yea

whoa whoa
uh uh yea

whoa whoa
uh uh yea

whoa whoa
uh uh yea

You questioned did I care
maybe I would howl if you wanna come to me
now it's over
but I do admit i'm glad I didn't catch your crabs
I can't swear bad cause I got to go

CHORUS
fuck What I did, was your fault somehow
fuck the presents, I threw all that shit out
don't go cryin' you didn't mean jack
well guess what yo, fuck you right back

Can we dial back to the Cold War and push the button now?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 8 March 2004 02:09 (twenty years ago) link

No, that would generalize the suffering. It must all be concentrated at this man's quivering body.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 8 March 2004 02:13 (twenty years ago) link

Dan, the blogger whose site I pulled those lyrics from suggested that Eamon retaliate with another track!

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 8 March 2004 02:14 (twenty years ago) link

I love that even the 'normal' parts of the lyrics come off as kind of bizarre, i.e. "I even said you were my great one".

apparently Eamon has a doo wop song called "Ho Wop", and when he was on TRL he wore a sweatshirt that said HO WOP on the front. I hope he at least becomes successful enough to ship his own line of Ho-Wop-A-Wear to retail.

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 9 March 2004 04:34 (twenty years ago) link

they both are ok i dont turn the radio up when they come off but i dont switch it. I got props for anyone making money. so frankee and eamon do yo thang

lida truly, Friday, 12 March 2004 03:01 (twenty years ago) link

I like the Frankee version even better than the Eamon one! But that doesn't mean that his version is terrible, it's a good song.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Friday, 16 April 2004 15:38 (twenty years ago) link

It is a good song, but I can't get past Eamon's noxious whine of a voice, it's grating in a horribly emo sort of way and reminds me of the dread Durst. Even if Frankee didn't exist I'd side with the girl in the Eamon song.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 16 April 2004 15:43 (twenty years ago) link

I've never heard the reply song, but I immediately side with the girl, as Eamon is a whiney, potty-mouthed, inarticulate slackjaw.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 16 April 2004 16:10 (twenty years ago) link

Anyone got any thoughts on this compared to Shysties version of / riposte to, Dizzee’s I Luv You? I think there should be more response songs in modern pop given how misogynistic and homophobic most of it inherently is.

myke boomnoise (myke boomnoise), Friday, 16 April 2004 23:31 (twenty years ago) link

I haven't heard the Frankee song yet. It got crazy hate on the local R&B station. There seems to be a lot of Eamon love in this town.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 17 April 2004 16:16 (nineteen years ago) link

The unironic kind, frighteningly enough.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 17 April 2004 16:16 (nineteen years ago) link

I think there should be more response songs in modern pop given how misogynistic and homophobic most of it inherently is.

True dat, but first there have to be more women and gay men in genres like hip-hop and garage to do the response songs. (And more love given to the ones who ARE there - I've only skimmed the grime thread, but Lady Fury is only mentioned like two or three times!) Shystie is wicked.

The Lex (The Lex), Saturday, 17 April 2004 16:30 (nineteen years ago) link

This song is great.

christhamrin (christhamrin), Saturday, 17 April 2004 17:55 (nineteen years ago) link

I love Eamon's release of F**k It (I don't want you back. Frankee copied his version! I'm not saying it's a shit reply coz her song is wicked, but Eamon just rules! I love him and so do all my mates. I love the way they have replied to each other, but is Eamon's song for Frankee? Apparently I heard it was fro another ex-girlfriend called Andrea? Is this right? Anyway Eamon's song is better - I love it and Frankee's song comes as a second in my personal chart at the moment!

Macho rubbish BUT the version sung by that bird is just the same (where she's telling a guy to get fucked) so maybe it's about time you had a song where a guy's telling some nasty lass to stick it.

ok actually I just discovered that he didn't ADD the word "ho's" the promo copy I got when I reviewed this was clean so they had taken out the word "ho's" (what is up with that apostrophe?). For some reason they're keeping it now (at least on Launch). I really wish this was added after the fact.

Revive, as I just got a copy of the album.
It's terrible in a fascinating way. As I listen to it, I can TELL I'll be tired of it in two days; but it's great for the moment.
Utterly disposable... just like he turned out to be.
Whence Eamon these days? Opening for William Hung?

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 20:48 (nineteen years ago) link

Though truth be told, there may be a few keepers on here: "Fuck You" is still pretty tasty and I like "Get Off my Dick" and "Ho-Wop" enough that they may stay in rotation.
"Fuck You" seems like a likely OMGWTFLOL winner of the future.
Forget dub Hung, E. should be opening for Snow.

but whether or not the Frankee version was staged (uh, it totally was), some really lame disses throughout. She faked orgasms? OMG AN "EVERY WOMAN IN THE WORLD" SHOCKER. even my most recent ex admitted she did on occasion (but wouldn't tell me if she did with me, lol).
