Dolphin jumping stuff in Ecco was at least pleasant, like one of those marine creature paintings sold at aquariums. Ecoquest was just a really preachy Sierra C-lister.

A soft volley of clicks, the equivalent of a cough to get attention was heard from behind me. Turning, I gave a groan of deepest loathing, that old cow of a mother was behind me. “What is it?” I snarled.
“I just want to talk to you Sonar,” she said softly, her deep brown eyes, showing worry and concern.
I glowered back. “‘Bout wot?”
“About...” she started. She stared into my angry eyes and saw it. Rage. She knew I was being rude, she could see I didn’t care. I saw her body begin to quiver with uncontrollable fury, then it exploded, “What is your problem Sonar? I never had this trouble with your brothers and sisters. Why do I get it from you? I bet Ecco...”
And that did it. The mention of the name forced it out of me, the secret I’d kept for so long, ultimately revealed. “Wanna know my problem? Ecco! I hate Ecco; just as much as I hate YOU!!!!”
The brown eyes of my mother stared in shock, hurt flooding into the chocolate colored globes. She couldn’t believe I’d just said that to her; she opened and closed her mouth a few times, trying to think of something to say. But, instead of words, my mother burst into tears and fled, like a calf witnessing a shark feeding frenzy for the first time.

Trying to move Ecco around was about as effective as trying to control a live dolphin with a Genesis controller, except the live dolphin was less likely to decide to fatally bang into something.

It was a pretty enough game, what I saw of it, at least. Some of the most esthetically pleasing dolphin death scenes I've seen.

two weeks pass...

It was fun to swim around and jump out of the water in Ecco, but I don't think I got very far or really figured out what the hell to do.
