What music do you associate with what game?

Since video game music & sound effects tended to be shite until the mid-late 90's, I always listened to something else. And since the associations get burned in pretty quickly, I can no longer recall the game w/o recalling the tunes.

Here's a quick sampling:

River City Ransom -- Early 1991 -- Aerosmith's "Toys in the Attic" on cassette tape.
Almost all NES games from '89-90 - Faxanadu/Legend of Zelda 1 & 2/Contra/Blaster Master -- the local top 40 station (Technotronic, Paula Abdul, Janet Jackson, etc)
Battle of Olympus -- B-52s - "Cosmic Thing"

What about you? What do you remember? From when?

Quake (1996-7) - Prodigy, "Fat of the Land". I'm not even sure if I listened to that whilst playing Quake, I've just always associated them somehow.

Oh yeah, and I played Ultima 5 for like an entire year, listening to my dad's little clock radio thing set to the same Top 40 station. For some reason, I can't think of the game without Aerosmith's "Janie's Got a Gun," which got huge during that period.

Actually, i just realized that it wasn't until the advent of talkie games that I ever listened to the game, especially where you needed to hear dialogue to advance the plot.

I used to play old-school GTA (like the top-down version) with the Birthday Party's 'Hamlet (Pow Pow Pow)' on repeat.

Also, I have no idea what Reznor's music for Quake even sounds like because I always popped SAWII in the CD tray instead.

I’m no Reznor fan but the quake 2 soundtrack is some good shit
