filthy.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:35 (nineteen years ago) link

I swear I saw something about a game coming out that's like a war game but also a pinball game and also a two-player game and the second player uses the conga things from Donkey Konga to do rhythmic things and rally yr troops or something. If this game really exists, I am totally getting it.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:36 (nineteen years ago) link

It arrived today! I have been playing it non-stop! Some of the soundtrack reminds me of CORNELIUS, but then I am low on JAPANESE points of reference. My little prince is rolling some huge katamaris and YOU cannot stop him!

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 04:06 (nineteen years ago) link

It reminds of CORNELIUS? Hmmm... It's pretty straight up J-Pop/J-Dance for the most part.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 15:53 (nineteen years ago) link

It is not a culture I am familair with. perhaps you could tell me more.

"perhaps"

I haven't received mine yet. I hope it comes while I am still sick so I can play it while hibernating at home.

why do old people and old users of ILX such bastardos (deangulberry), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:11 (nineteen years ago) link

It messes with your head a bit. The guy who I bought it from sent me a note that said "Thanks! Now I can afford a lobotomy!".

This really happened!

$31 with shipping! Oy vey. You could've got 2 at Best Buy 3 weeks ago when it was released!

What countries have you been to yet? How many constellations have you made?

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 17:13 (nineteen years ago) link

Countries? I have made Cancer and Gemini and Cygnus so far.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 17:20 (nineteen years ago) link

Is Best Buy usually cheap 4 games? Maybe I will browse on my lunch break.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 17:21 (nineteen years ago) link

Each "Make A Star" screen takes place in a different country... I think the first ones are:

Thailand
Phillipines
Portugal
Spain
Holland
... I can't remember the other ones.

Best Buy = ROCK BOTTOM PRICES on day/week of release games and also major label CDs.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 17:22 (nineteen years ago) link

Oh, like when the King Of All Cosmos says hello in different languages?

I have been to

experimental grandma (deangulberry), Thursday, 21 October 2004 03:13 (nineteen years ago) link

I bought it an hour ago and I willing cede my life to it now.

I really hope there wasn't anything important I missed in the introduction when the floated head talked to me for like 20 minutes.

Laura E (laurae55), Thursday, 21 October 2004 12:30 (nineteen years ago) link

You mean the King Of All Cosmos? That guy is a BASTARD.

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:40 (nineteen years ago) link

KOAC reminds me of you, Adam. He talks in RHYMES and RIDDLES. Also, after Make a Star 9, you find out that he's a Scot.

experimental grandma (deangulberry), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:52 (nineteen years ago) link

You're already at MAKE A STAR 9???????

I got Stretch Panic too. Japanese games are WEIRD (like WILCO).

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:07 (nineteen years ago) link

I made an amazing star 3 (SUGOOOOOOOOOI) but now I'm stuck on star 4.

Seriously, does KOAC say anything relevant to gameplay ever? I can only translate about 1/16 of what he says.

Laura E (laurae55), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:19 (nineteen years ago) link

It's not terribly relevant but it's pretty funny. In the English version, it seems to me like it's 50% deliberate aloofness / 50% awkward translation.

experimental grandma (deangulberry), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:29 (nineteen years ago) link

KOAC says out loud the things that most of us only THINK.

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:30 (nineteen years ago) link

It's true. It's pretty damn funny in certain parts, but that SCREEN OF FAILURE with the POURING RAIN OF REGRET is soulcrushing ;(

experimental grandma (deangulberry), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:31 (nineteen years ago) link

He gets genuinely stoked if you like collect like 80%+ of all maximum objects... like if you double+ what the suggested size or if you get to the suggested size fast (and then you get a "shooting star").

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:36 (nineteen years ago) link

Is there any significance to the presents that he recieves? I see that he can wear them in the monitor while you're rolling the katamari, but does it help in any way?

experimental grandma (deangulberry), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:42 (nineteen years ago) link

The prince is awesome. I like how he flies from planet to planet.

The two-player mode is a little disappointing, though. I wish they didn't have arena-style levels like that, it gets repetitive.

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:44 (nineteen years ago) link

the presents are just bonus. i can't figure out the cousins purpose (for 1 player mode).

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:07 (nineteen years ago) link

Isn't the cousins/mushroom mode for two player only? I figured that it was only showing up for me because I had both controllers plugged in. Does it still show up when you've only one controller plugged in?
