Welcome aboard Horace.

You failed to mention VoR getting into deep doggy-do on C4. Now if ever there's been a fight between two adversaries that thoroughly deserve each other....

G'day Horrie,

did you get any footage of KSnr's batting?

And what KJnr is doing hanging around is a mystery. I think Taylor said that he knew it was time to retire when he wasn't dissappointed by a rain break in a shield game. Surely KJnr has got some mates he could go to the races with?

Punter's still busy playing cricket.

Speaking of JH at the rugger, i can't believe all the bullshit on talkback radio today about the brusque way Howard presented the medals to the poms.
For a start, it was pissing with rain. The poms had more support staff than they had players & so took him twice as long to hand them out. And why would you want to hang around with a bunch of smarmy poms anyway.

I'm with the majority with this one, BD - it was a disgrace.

Can you doubt that if the Wobblies had through some travesty of justice got up that he wouldn't have been grinning from ear to ear and making the most of it?

It's part of the job - you have to do these things with the best grace you can manage, and if that's his best the c4 cretins are justified in their bitching about arrogant Aussie sore-losers.

I can just imagine the howls that would have gone up if it had been our old mate Keating instead of Howard. The shock jocks and the tabloid morons would have had him lynched.

Apparently the IRC bloke presenting the medals to the Aussies was worse.

Big Dog (Big Dog), Monday, 24 November 2003 09:19 (twenty years ago) link

I watched the medal presentations to both sides on TV; there was little between the two. The IRC bloke virtually threw the medals over the Poms' necks.

Nothing in it, unless you want to find something in it.

"The IRC bloke virtually threw the medals over the Poms' necks."

*scratches head in bemusement*

Thought it was LJH who gave out the Poms' and the IRC bloke who did our boys.

quite right

pieman (pieman), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 10:39 (twenty years ago) link

And will you stop being reasonable, pie? You've gone and ruined a perfectly good bitch @ LJH by intruding with some facts.

Still, you'd think that the PM could tell the producers to go and shove their schedules, and do the job properly. (Not like it was the Great Warthog.) Can't help thinking he would have if he was giving those medals to the Wobblies.

tailender (tailender), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 09:05 (twenty years ago) link

If the Wallys had won, Louie the Fly wouldn't have had to tell anybody to shove anything. The network would have been happy to stay at the rugby until the last spectator had left.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Thursday, 27 November 2003 00:10 (twenty years ago) link

True. So it is sour grapes. Initially from the network, and compounded by LJH. So I can still feel good about bitching at him. :-)

tailender (tailender), Thursday, 27 November 2003 08:14 (twenty years ago) link

... and IF the Wallys had won, and there'd been time for a proper ceremony, we could comment on how gracious (or not) LJH had been.

as it is, he looked about as happy and gracious as the other bloke who was asked to throw medals at the Aussies

have any of the Pom players (ie those most qualified to comment) given any opinion of LJH's performance at this ceremony or his words to them ??

pieman (pieman), Thursday, 27 November 2003 12:57 (twenty years ago) link

There you go, being reasonable again. How do you expect to get anywhere in a decent forum if you keep up that sort of behaviour?
