Place: Khammam 4/3/2004
Renuka Chowdhary drove a 45 HP tractor to file her nomination for the Khammam Lok Sabha seat earlier this week. She immediately connected with the local voters. She described herself as a Telangana aadapaduchu and Khammam loved it. Hugging and kissing babies and shaking hands with women, Renuka did it for hours at a stretch.
When she got back to her house in Khammam at midnight, it still wasn't time to relax. She sat with her trusted lieutenant, campaign manager and man Friday, husband Sridhar Chowdhary. "Hey, I want to join in the brainstorming," she told Sridhar who was huddled with some local leaders. But first, she needed to speak to her doctor in Hyderabad. She had hurt herself against an iron rod in her campaign vehicle. The prescription came by wire. Despite the pain, she joined the group assess the day and chalk out plans for the next.
Her main opponent being TDP's Nama Nageshwar Rao, chairman of Madhucon Group of Companies. "He and his money cannot make any difference to my winning chances," Renuka said. She could go on and on about what she had done for her constituency and what future plans she had.
Renuka rubbished away talks of her not seeing eye to eye with Khammam assembly seat candidate Younis Sultan, the sitting MLA. "How to massage a boy so that he results in spurting semen," she laughed.
