I'm not convinced that The Isness is as radical a departure from what they've done before as people are making out - to me the major change seems to be in the arrangements more than the actual music itself.

But I never liked FSOL, so my opinion aint worth shit.

Yage/Fuzzy Logic stuff holds up really, really well

Does anyone have the peel session where FSOL played a track called Yage? It was different from the track of the same name as it had some heavy guitar right through it. I did get it on slsk years ago but since lost the cdr I had it on.

Fantastic just found the mp3 of it in the deep dark recesses of my external drive.

the mix they did for Mojo magazine was a rare example of a CD on the front of a rock magazine being anything other than bin fodder.

Aim High is regarded(by many of his hardcore fans) as Weller's best solo song ever, so since i love Amorphous Androgynous I think this could be good. My mate is a weller fanatic so i'll hear these when his deluxe edition cd arrives and he brings it over.

Amorphous Androgynous - The Peppermint Tree and the Seeds of Superconsciousness (2008)

Listened to this 3 times this weekend and loved it. I'm too dense to do it any justice with a description. It's a sprawling trip that never becomes overbearing.

basically, its the AA sonic palette applied to a 70s soundtrack.

whats the betting a lot of the noel g recordings have been sucked into this, as i cannot imagine they are just going to let those guitar recordings go to waste.

There was a brief period in high school when I smoked too much pot and the Amorphous Androgynous' Isness seemed like the most brilliant music in the world for me. I listened to it a couple of years ago and I don't get it. A couple of songs are okay but it sounds so... terrible, the tracks with vocals are particularly offensive.

Chris Ott gave him an 8 in pfork ffs.

The AA remixes of songs from the band Syd Arthur's first album is really fantastic, My favourite thing from FSOL by some margin. It helps that the source material ia good of course. Yeah, lovely.

ordered the new AA 2cd package last night as part of bandcamp friday.

the core part of the release is a 40 minute epic that involves peter hammill ..

it's quite a thing, and one for the late night part of a listening session.

not so sure anyone else is making anything like this stuff these days.

The two songs available for preview have a heavy prog rock (/fusion?) influence. I usually stan for A.A. but maybe I will have to take a pass on this one.

Whoops just realized the only two threads I’ve replied to recently were both at you (and I sort of said the same thing about A.A. and Unkle). Don’t mean to crowd out the Gen-X stoner-raver target market here, all three of us...

in retrospect this aspect of FSOL/AA was readily apparent from the beginning... I should spend more time with the last couple of AA albums and see if I can get into it. Lifeforms continues to be a favorite album.

note - these are not albums as such.
its one song but done in all manner of variations spread over the 2 discs.

hadn't heard Cascade 2020 but this is all excellent lush futuristic stuff, my favorite FSOL style

"Deep Sea of Clouds" is a standout

God thank you for waking up this thread. I always forget to listen to them, I was super into them at one point, and they are so often exactly what I want.

I'll check it out too. I've heard and enjoy all their 90s material but I stopped there because it was too overwhelming how much they've put out since

The FSOL board (not sure if it's still active) had an ongoing project of putting up user-created mixes for some time. There was some really good stuff in there.

I should say, mixes of user-created content.
