after 30 seconds of that shit I have come to the eminently challopsy conclusion that this album will be the worst thing either of them has ever done

bernard snowy, Wednesday, 30 July 2008 03:31 (fifteen years ago) link

He has such a great voice, but his voice SUCKS with a softer sound. Yet he likes that softer sound.

I'm sorry, but he has officially sold out to that Pop shit.
I can't believe that one of the creators of Grunge, (a genre that said "Fuck you" to the world, that took down the repetitiveness of Mainstream music at the time) and also frontman of another great Alternative band (being Audioslave) has sold out to this shit.

I really hope Chris Cornell somehow reads this:
Fuck you, you sellout

and what, Wednesday, 30 July 2008 03:33 (fifteen years ago) link

I dunno about you guys but when I think of grunge I think of... whatever the opposite of repetitiveness is

bernard snowy, Wednesday, 30 July 2008 03:35 (fifteen years ago) link

can Timbo ever do a song that doesn't sound like a Timbo song?

musically, Wednesday, 30 July 2008 03:36 (fifteen years ago) link

I was really hoping that was aw stepping up & letting his CC fan flag fly.

Steve Shasta, Wednesday, 30 July 2008 03:39 (fifteen years ago) link

I love Timbo as neo-Babyface. I love Cornell as anything besides lame-o Audioslave.

Or, 'tis the way of all shirtless flesh

There are people who can write who defend Audioslave?

I, for one, am looking forward to "Sings the Paul Simon Songbook" in '18. His "Bridge over Troubled Water" is gonna be incredible.

bendy, Wednesday, 30 July 2008 04:46 (fifteen years ago) link

I've always wanted to hear Cornell covering Blue Oyster Cult.

billstevejim, Wednesday, 30 July 2008 05:39 (fifteen years ago) link

I love my Soundgarden so much that I begrudge CC nothing... but Seal is going to be PISSED when he hears this.

rogermexico., Wednesday, 30 July 2008 05:47 (fifteen years ago) link

I bet he would nail covering "Godzilla."

billstevejim, Wednesday, 30 July 2008 05:53 (fifteen years ago) link

It's growing on me, fuckers.

Certainly better than anything he did with Audioslave.

rogermexico., Wednesday, 30 July 2008 06:13 (fifteen years ago) link

I've always wanted to heard him cover Traffic. "Forty Thousand Headmen". Or "Low Sparks", with a metallic "Jesus Christ Pose" interlude rather than the jazz fusion.

bendy, Wednesday, 30 July 2008 10:39 (fifteen years ago) link

Is the word "challopsy" really sticking around? I find that far more offensive than this Cornellbaland shit.

Savannah Smiles, Wednesday, 30 July 2008 11:04 (fifteen years ago) link

sorry I never used it before and this seemed like a good time cuz I thought everyone would agree with me that this song is incredibly boring and shitty (admittedly, the low-quality radio rip may have something to do with that)

Fuck this is bad, even by Cornell and Timbaland standards.

sonderangerbot, Wednesday, 30 July 2008 22:36 (fifteen years ago) link

Haven't liked much of anything he's done since Soundgarden, and have been pretty unenthused about Timbaland the last couple years, so my expectations were fairly low, especially after I heard "Long Gone" compared to "Apologize," but I kinda like it! the snippets on YouTube of 3 other songs, though...ugh.

seven months pass...

Thought this would blow but I heard Part of Me in a clothes shop yesterday and apart from the 0_o lyrics I'm liking it.

Plaxico (I know, right?), Friday, 6 March 2009 10:57 (fifteen years ago) link

i gave this the benefit of the doubt but "Part of Me" is really worth every hyperbolic overreaction it will get, it's just the pits

"Ground Zero," from 2:18 to the end, is the funniest 40 seconds of music I have heard since Anal Cunt's 311 imitation.

Andy K, Friday, 6 March 2009 14:20 (fifteen years ago) link

i really wish i hated this more. i mean, i don't love it, and both parties have done much, much better, but worse albums have been made, you know?

Beatrix Kiddo, Monday, 9 March 2009 19:45 (fifteen years ago) link

when the ilm 2k9 poll reaper comes, we're all voting for this right here. deal?

lolz YES maybe it's just od'ing on the-dream album today but all the many transitions on this thing are like the most retarded attempts at doing tricky stewart ever.

I've just come to this realization, as well. I mean, I never got into Audioslave but the man was literally a god to me growing up based off Badmotorfinger alone so I will always kind of be half-interested in what he's doing

i kinda would like to have heard them do something together back in like 1996 when they were both at the top of their game, but i'm not sure they would've even made a decent record then, let alone now.

Most bullshit post in this thread. Or maybe you haven't noticed that CC isn't exactly lacking for hits these days?

butt-rock miyagi (rogermexico.), Friday, 13 March 2009 03:50 (fifteen years ago) link

This could have been so good, but neither dude was working at 100%.

I hope this takes off and they do it again and do it right and its huge.

s1ockit to me (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 13 March 2009 04:00 (fifteen years ago) link

i kinda agree, but i feel like CC's voice is so shot that if he was gonna do a record like this he should've done it a long time ago. it could work with his restrained Temple Of The Dog-era vocal style, but not this terrible rasp.

well-respected battle rapper (circa1916), Friday, 13 March 2009 04:20 (fifteen years ago) link

Bits of this actually work but from the Mario Kart intro onwards it's very difficult not to burst out laughing. Especially the "rub up against me" bits, ewww old man put it away. Would have worked better as a mechanistic Led Zeppelin behemoth with twiddly Indian samples but they're kind of trying to play it straight Timberlake too much of the time.

Not including a Timba-style stop/start clattery bass-heavy version of Spoonman = colossal wasted opportunity.
