abbott = definitely invited to record listening party anytime she ever makes it out to SF
if 'Acnalbasac Noom' versions, I can't choose if 'Casablanca Moon' versions, then "A Little Something"

Mr. Rainbow or the Drum.
― dan selzer, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 22:58 (fifteen years ago) link
I'll vote the Drum, first song I heard, RIP Adult Crash record store.
Me & Paravati in Paris France surrounded by musicians, dressing to dance on the tomb of acquisitions where bloomed our positions scattered like scars on the skin of the stars needing celebration we entered a bar The conversation centered on conservation she shed a tear for the frozen deer in the forests of upper Thailand (tigerland). Out on the street, blazing with light, we threw back our heads, crazed with delight, then she asked "Who do you really think you are?
Seeking sudden treasure on the Rue St. Jacques the delicate creation of a bruise on her back. Struck down from behind by a process in the back of her mind Time will tell if her spell was cast or improvised - On the curve os disaster I never dared to ask her. She made her name on the exit lanes of the famous Stella highways (hide-a-ways). Out on the street blazing with light I asked her a question & she got it right - (the answer was the question she asked me).
UNFUCKWITHABLE

It doesn't seem right to vote for "The Drum" given that there are two cover versions that I like better. I like the sort of endless feeling of Slow Moon's Rose. As I've mentioned in other Slapp Happy threads, I'm one of those insane people who vastly prefer their debut. Anyway, Slow Moon's Rose.

secret for me. still unbeatable.
― nonightsweats, Thursday, 5 June 2008 03:23 (fifteen years ago) link
Hard to argue against the 'hits', "The Drum", "The Secret" but then there's also "Mr Rainbow" and "Slow Moon's Rose". So I'm voting for "Me and Parvati". Not fashionable I know, but I prefer the versions of the good songs on "Casablanca Moon" whereas the songs I don't like as much (e.g. "Dawn", "Half Way There") are all much better on "Acnalbasac Noom". Also "Charlie and Charlie" pwns "Haiku", which should have been in this poll instead of the last three tracks.

Tough call between "Me and Paravati" and "A Little Something". Very tough.

"Mr Rainbow," definitely
Casablanca > Ancnablasac, too, btw, but that's maybe another poll

I love both versions, Acnalbasac rocks harder thanks to Faust, but the chamber arrangements on Casablanca add a whole extra layer
when Ça Va came out in 1997 I liked a few songs but wasn't sure about the production, one too many drum loops. then I went back about four years ago and realized I knew every song by heart, it's a great record

Interesting cover here. Kind of reminds me of Amon Duul 2 covering Slapp Happy (which isn't that much of a stretch).

I've never heard of her before, but apparently her name is Togawa Jun. She sounds like an interesting character: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jun_Togawa

I love Jun Togawa. Never knew she covered Slapp Happy. She's been in many bands, favorite one is Guernica and that's probably the best place of entry for Slapp Happy / Kurt Weill fans
though I like some of her 80's technopop too in the same way I like Nina Hagen
Guernica, Jun Togawa's band
& she comes up a bit here too: Kiyohiko Senba and his Haniwa All Stars
I heard Acnalbasac Noom first, and so when I heard the Casablanca Moon version it was interesting to see that the Bongwater cover is basically a clone of that version and not the rockin' version on AN. But you're right on that cover, they clearly got the lyrics from Bongwater
