In this thread, let us gather round and discuss how awesome this ambient track by Aphex Twin is, and why the hell he left it off the SAWII CD.

i think maybe because there's not enough room on disc 1 or 2?

I've tried to make a single-CD mix of this a couple of times but it's fucking impossible. Which tracks would you leave out?

robertwolf8080, Saturday, 9 February 2008 01:42 (sixteen years ago) link

just leave out the boring half of each one

El Tomboto, Saturday, 9 February 2008 01:43 (sixteen years ago) link

That would be ideal. I just tried again and came up with 2 CDs, one that's ultra creepy and another that I would actually listen to.

But yes, Stone in Focus, it's like what Stars of the Lid should sound like to justify their long-ass records.

Hey now.

"Don't Bother They're Here" off of Refinement IS "Stone in Focus" but I guess it's up to you which one does it better.

I managed to rip this to two CDs with SIF I'm sure.

It's high time they rereleased this album... unless I'm mistaken and they have.

It's been 12+ years since Refinement of the Decline???

can we start guilting SoTL about this? "you know what would make the constant possibility of imminent death bearable?"

Well I mean we were going to get a Winged Victory for the Sullen performance in Grace Cathedral next month but alas...

YouTube comments on this are actually kinda neat.
Paraphrasing one: the metronome clicking represents heart beating; long cello like sound represents breathing. As the piece progresses the heart beats slower and the breathing gets longer. Akin to getting into a deeper and deeper meditative state.

Anyway this is perfect mood music for current state of things. Deep melancholy yet a gentle, womb-like aura telling you that everything is going to be alright.

YT comments for SAWII tracks are definitely a whole mood.
