How can it be true?

And how is it that the thread I started about Sad Lovers and Giants on the Sandbox is gone? :(

And I can't find another thread about them here. I did try.

"Feeding The Flame" is about the best thing goth ever cooked up in a cauldron, man.

Also to the folks on that thread who had made good mentions of The Mirror Test, I heard the first song from that again recently and was surprised to find I actually remembered it and it was very good and made me think I'd probably remember the rest of that album at least as favourably as I did the first song.

As a huge Chameleons fan, I looked into Sad Lovers as well as the other off-shoot band, Snake Corps, but eventually sold all that I had acquired. It just didn't grab me - it sounded alright but something was missing. The tunes didn't stick in my head, just the booming vocal style.

I remember when I was in high school and WNUR, the Northwestern University Radio Station, used to play the "Things We Never Did" single all the time. I loved it but could never find it anywhere. Finally tracked it down when I went to England in the winter of '83/'84. I am a big fan of "Epic Garden Music" as well (Is this on CD?) Subsequently bought "Feeding the Flame and was underwhelmed and never sought out anything after that.

While they showed greatness in small doses I never felt that they could sustain it for an LP's length.

I agree that at times they were a bit underwhelming. Feeding The Flame remains the one that really "stuck" for me. The Epic Garden Music CD (with loads of bonus tracks) is something I enjoyed a lot when I first bought, but have never felt the need to play again. I picked up "In The Breeze" on vinyl (I don't think it was released on CD) a couple years ago and it's got some really early stuff on it, I think, which was in a bit of a different style. I'll try to dig that one out this weekend as I always meant to go back to it and never did. Come to think of it, that might be a really good idea of something to put up on my blog...

I guess there were only two threads, both short and both started by Bimble.

Reviving this one to note that there's a comprehensive box set Cherry Red's putting out of the band's whole recorded career, with the group's participation, liner notes, etc. Copy arrived today and it looks very nice indeed. The clamshell/paper sleeve box set approach really has been an amazing boon.

one year passes...

Feeding the Flame was a good choice for this afternoon's slow plod back up the 405 for my commute home.

I don't often play these guys, but when I do, man, they really scratch that one particular itch very nicely. Flangers and digital delays set for that glorious dotted eight. Fantastic stuff.

Alas, I'm a little upset that I've searched this topic and found Ned's very informative post about the box set, which I now must own.

three weeks pass...

Just got the Where the Light Shines Through set in the mail today and a cursory look over the tracklistings for each disc and the very informative booklet reveals that this band was a lot more active and fragmented than I had taken them to be. Seriously, the timeline of all the different members in the back of the booklet is just dizzying to wrap my brain around.

I was also a little dismayed at this passage from the booklet: "Sure, there are a few live versions and re-recordings left off, but nothing you really need."

To which I say, NOT TRUE! The re-recording of 'Imagination' that kicks of the CD version of Feeding the Flame is seemingly not on the box set and it has always been my preferred version of the song.
