In particular, I'm wondering about a purported album of Elvis covers this R&B singer did in the late 60s -- it's not listed on AMG, but I heard his version of Hound Dog on a radio show and the DJ claimed that the LP exists (though he played a 45 of the song). His "Hound Dog" is incredibly funky.

I saw him live once, but I have never heard that lp either.

here's the lp referenced in the original post. i've never heard it.

i love the motown stuff, but never realized he continued to put out records all through the 70s.

Streaming on evil Spotify too. Just figured out my reference to having seen him live above was when he did a mini-set in January 1989 at an also evil Lee Atwater booked inauguration event for George Bush sr. I scalped a ticket cheap outside and reviewed the show for Dave Marsh’s r’n’ rap confidential zine . He did his best and tried to engage stereotypical Republican crowd in call & response, but not very successfully.
