Recommend me some music that sounds like Comus

I have heard the newer band Spires That In The Sunset Rise sound sort of like Comus. I think I heard them described as an all-female Comus in Blastitude, and their press release refers to them as "Manson-esque harpies". Sounds promising. Not to try to hijack this thread or anything, but do they sound like Comus and does anyone have any thoughts about them otherwise?

Oh, I've heard them. They sound a little more like Angelblood Unplugged than Comus to me. That Eclipse record is decent but I was expecting a little more. Word has it that solo CD by one of the mmebers - Tar Pet - is INSANELY good. Gotta grab that one one of these days. Psyched to see them at Pasture.

I think if you want the compilation cd you do, but I doubt such a thing will 'sell out' - i mean, it's ACRES. Needless to say we're most psyched about that gig (tho Greh's new crib in Detroit oughta be a blast) - I STILL don't have the exact tour dates but when I get them I'll either post them here or email you...I'm terrible with geography and planning things and booking shows and whatnot...

I don't think i've ever really run across band that sounds quite like Comus. They're sort of in a league of their own. Some vaguely similar stuff i could recommend would be. The Trees- Christ Tree, sort of dark,mystical jesus-folk- no relation to the UK Trees. Changes- Fire of Life has it's moments too. Some sort of Process Church related psych-folk band, not much info to go on with my copy of the LP. you can check this website for more info on them, http://www.fluxeuropa.com/changes.htm
Forest whose two albums Forest and Full Circle are available on a two-fer i believe is also up that same alley.
On a slightly different tangent Extradition's Hush is one of my favorite oddball psych-folk albums and I'd highly recommend it if you've not heard it.
Oh and the Taralie Dawn's Tarpet is vry nice from what I remember of it. I'll have to dig it out tomorrow and give it another spin.

BTW, you're probably alright familiar with the bands i just mention. Wish i could help more I wish there were more in the Comus vein myself.

Aside from one song ("Do Not Walk in the Rain") I really hate Forest. Kinda alwys seemd like a really pale ISB imitation to me.

That Changes record is the only one I've never heard of - is it really connected to the Process Church?? Damn. Hitting the link now. Much obliged

the trees aka "trees community." it's on soulseek, and a reissue and unreleased stuff is in the works.

i think that tar pet lady was in the unshown, which was plastic crimewave's thing a while back. blows his newer stuff off the map.

Jan Dukes de Grey seconded, especially the second album, Mice and Rats In The Loft. I've heard Mormos mentioned in the same sentence as Comus too, but I haven't actually heard their stuff. Dunno what else. Mark Fry perhaps on some of the longer tracks, but still a billion miles away from the bloody heaviosity of Comus.

maybe the soundtrack to "Wicker Man"? also there's this Baltimore band called Long Live Death who i have yet to hear but supposedly rate Comus as a big influence. a couple guys from the Oxes are in it, pretty sure there is a cd out.

one of Mormos' vocalists - i want to say her name was Annie Hat, or something? - had the witchiest voice ever. almost unbearable. James' voice and delivery are cool but way hippie.

I recently got an old CD of Emtidi's 1972 album Saat, and track #4 "Love Time Rain" really really sounds like Comus!
